I like simple water because it doesnt have annoying smell or oils. I dont seem to get dry after it like when I wash my face with normal water or other water cleanser brands. What do you think about michelle garnirer water cleansers?

Hi Dr. V. Thankyou for putting in time and effort to make such informative videos. Just a quick question on your recommendation on simple vital vitamin cream. There are 2 products on that name and the picture that pops up in your video shows ‘Day cream Spf15’ while the lists that you have mentioned are the ingredients that are in night cream. Can you specifically mention which one did you recommend? And if its the night cream, is the day cream good as well?
      Many Thanks!
      S

I like that the SIMPLE ingredients are all simple but it's very affordable too. Hyram did a review on this brand too. Price is one of the reasons people don't have access to a lot of skincare products even if it's good for you.

Simple is a pretty nice brand. It's ecologically conscious, which I really appreciate, and all of the products are fragrance-free but all have a decent smell to them :3 I use their light and rich moisturizers and micellar water at times, and they all have pretty bomb ingredients. They do get the basics right.

I feel reassured, we've been using simple for years and just recently I've been venturing out a bit and realised that other big brands aren't as good after watching your videos. I have a question: about pixie vitamin c toner. in one of your videos you don't recommend it but in another video you were explaining (ish) what to not combine it with (if I remember correctly) and that confused me because I had the understanding that we shouldn't use it but the combination video suggested to me that it is okay to use. can you please clarify to me if it is good for soc?

I never have any serious reaction, especially that bad, from any skincare before.. Im 39, dry skin all over from head to toe, since teenage, so rich moisturizer is always what I often used, and am looking for.. I’m really curious which ingredient cause me that reaction.. it even made 1 spot of my skin off on face, and another one on my neck.. fortunately I have aloe gel to soothe right away that they dont leave marks.. I read some people also burned after using simple light, so If I know which one is the irritant, I could avoid it on other products

Dr V please could you do a video on PHA (polyhydroxy acids), it's a new ingredient to me and it sounds like it would be a good alternative to AHAs for SOC (used in conjunction with other actives of course) because from what I understand, the molecules are too large to penetrate the skin so they just sit on top of skin and exfoliate the outer layer.
Also, there's a product i've just bought that contains vitamin c in the form of sodium ascorbyl palmitate; I couldn't find much information on this ingredient so I wanted to ask if you know much about this please?

I want to know too. Ive heard her say her favorite version of vita a is retinaldehyde for soc. Its what shes recommended in the past. It would be hard to know how a specific person would react to stronger versions. If you have skin that pigments easy probably should stay away because it could burn your skin. This everlasting pih has been bothering since my teens and I never did know how to proceed with any measures which are not too harsh as I didn’t want to permanently damage my skin or age it .
Dr V you are right ! It is the most underrated skin tendency which I think most people with skin of colour just accepted that their skin does it and there is nothing that we can do to avoid pih or maintain a clear skin!
Until you came in and taught us how to take care of our skin !

Hi Dr. V! I have questions unrelated to this video. So I love bare minerals original power foundation, but it states only has spf 15, which is a bumper for me, but the ingredients are titanium dioxide 18%, & zinc 22%. When I compared this to my Suntegrity spf 30 sunscreen, there is only zinc oxide at 20%, so why Bare Minerals states only spf 15, shouldn't it be higher? which would make me happy. Also for the MDSolar sunscreen spf 30 & 50, both have the same amount of titanium dioxide at 2% & zince oxide at 17%, so why is one listed at 50 spf? Please help with this, I feel like I'm either being cheated or not realizing how wonderfully high the spf is in the Bare Mineral power foundation, if so, I'm going to buy more of this wonderful Bare Mineral powder foundation. Please advise, thank you!

    • @fjaggrey

I had this same issue and started using the below products based on ingredients recommendations by Dr V. My face used to be very oily but that has stopped ever since I got on top of my skin care routine with these products. Lately I go a full day without topping up my make up which was previously impossible! My face is literally glowing, everyone who knows me have noticed the difference and are stunned! My face was 5 shades darker than my body, it's now about 2 shades darker and it has only been 5 months doing this. It can be time consuming but I know my future skin would thank me and that alone is my motivation! Key thing is to hydrate (topical and water intake) and exfoliate. In order of application:
      AM
      Cleanser: Cerave foaming cleanser
Toner: Klairs supple preparation toner (unscented) i am probably going to switch to Paula's choice since Dr. V highly recommends it. Nothing wrong with Klairs, it is very hydrating but I want more from a toner.
Serums: Ordinary Hyaluronic acid, Alpha Arbutin, and Revolution 15% Niacinamide. I use Garden of Wisdom Vitamin C on days i don't use Niacinamide, usually 4 days a week.
      Moisturiser: Cerave Moisturising lotion
SPF: Colourscience but the white cast is a struggle on makeup days so I use the Inkey list SPF which is much better but unfortunately it is SPF 30 which is not my preference but I haven't seen adverse effect with it and is great under make up.
      PM
      Cleanser: same as morning
      Toner: same as morning
Serums: Ordinary Hyaluronic acid, Niacinamide & Granactive Retinoid 2% (2 times a week), I started once a week for a month and it is very important to do your research on retinol before using them.
On nights I don't use retinol, I use the Ordinary Buffet or Azelaic acid after the serums.
Facial oil: Face theory Rosehip oil (on No retinol nights)
      Moisturiser: same as morning
      Hope this helps. Goodluck!

Love this again! You asked about products for men and these products are something I could recommend to my 19 year old son. The issue than teenage boys/young men can perhaps feel is that they don’t want to use products that look ‘feminine’. He has used Bull Dog which I think is found in Tesco (could that get any more masculine?!) Also Nivea for Men products too. For men, would a two step routine of wash and moisturise be enough? Again, it’s trying to overcome the idea of too many products. I have notifications on for your videos as I’m excited to hear what you’ll talk about next!

Depending on sensitivity and depth of skin tone. She loves and recommends mandelic acid to everyone and some can get away with 5% or less lactic but ive seen people here in the comments saying they burned at even 5%. Since theres no way to be 100% sure something will be ok for you, id say start on safer side and work your way up to stronger and see if your skin can handle it.

Hi Dr V. Thank you for taking the time to make these educational videos on skincare. I know how precious time is when you are a working Mum and have a family to look after. I have been keeping up with most of your videos and would like to thank you for this particular one today as you have explained the differences between using soap on the face and a face wash. I’m a great fan of rice water and recently started using rice soap on my face - wasn’t quite sure weather this was the right thing especially having dry skin..... I think I’ll only use now and again in my skin care routine and stick to a fragrance free face wash daily. Thank you once again.... Keep up the good work.
