I'm not sure what your motivations are in putting these collections together, but I want you to know how much I appreciate it! It's so great to have them curated in one place.
I’m changed by her work. Absolute genius. Just one of her pictures would be my all time favorite if I had taken it. This is a great inspirational reset for me.
Maier is, for me, one of the greats of candid street photography - & most certainly the champion of Rolleiflex cameras. The earlier monochromes are (for the most part) pin sharp - equal to anything that a modern contemporary Mirrorless camera can produce. There's soul & an all-too ephemeral feel to her work that few could replicate today. I have several of her books, & never tire of studying their composition, exposure latitudes, or the mood that she created with each photograph. Thank you for this reprisal !
What she captures so beautifully without any staging is the fragility of life. She has a stunning eye for detail and a highly-tuned sense of intuition. We owe her a tremendous debt for giving the world such a remarkable catalogue of life and never asking a single dime for it let alone an accolade. Vivian Maier truly was the photographic Van Gogh of her generation.
These images feel like they're breathing they are so well done. The facial expressions are amazing. The use of light and shadow is stunning. Vivian certainly knew how to capture the decisive moment. What a fantastic journey through her time on this planet.
Fascinating, just fascinating. this video is almost 30 minutes but I've been watching for over an hour and just made it to the 14 min mark because I keep going back a few frames because something had caught my attention like perhaps the background, people, cars, building, the compositions and, of course, the multitude of reflections. This lady was gooood! Also kudos to the scanner. I just love the black, the whites, the tonal range in between. I'll probably spend another hour or two tomorrow to watch the second half of his video. Thanks for posting this.
I love your collection of such great photographs. I've been searching for inspirations and vision for street photography from a very long time. Finally found here. No chit chat, no dumping of technical things. Just watch and observe. I love it.
Thank you. Exceptional. Vivian is up there with the true greats. To think she took most of her photos without viewing the results, and learning from that, is a unique and extraordinary story.
An incredible amount of street photographs - and new ones for me! I bought every available book with her pictures - so I know a lot of them. Here I was just: yes - yes - no - probably not - yes - probably yes... and so on. VM left us such a treasure! Always at the right spot, always pressing the button in the perfect split second! Thanks from Munich. :-)
Thinkers, drinkers, stinkers and little tinkers, Vivian photographed them all. Every shot had a story. Thanks for putting this video together. I love her work.
All I can say is what incredible, thought provoking images and how sad she was only recognised for her photography after her death. Thankfully someone recognised her talents and her photos, negatives and prints etc were saved. So we can now appreciate and be inspired by them.👍
I just love her photography! She took a picture of everybody everywhere she went and cleverly did selfies before they were called that! I wish she had been interviewed so we can here her stories! Just fascinating!
I don't know much about photography, but I know masterful, beautiful images when I see them. She has quite the eye, and a knack for being in the right place at the exact right time, or else just knows what moments to look for. It's always sad seeing old photos, because you know most of the people and certainly all of the animals are now dead.
Master of the craft - and nothing ‘automatic in this 6 x 6 rig, except her well-trained eye. Thank you for sharing. I especially enjoyed the portraits 😊, and have subscribed.
Wonderfull! I really love her work. She had an eye for composition, but never had her used films developed. She must have seen the finished pictures in her mind.
I learned a lot from this video ... I learned that Vivian photographed everything in her field of view, she photographed herself a lot (self portraits), she photographed all over the USA and into Canada and at some point she switched from her TLR to a RF 35mm ... the TLR was a ROLLIFLEX and the RF 35mm looked to be an early NIKON (I could stand to be corrected) .. and most of all I learned that this awesome lady was really well versed in photography and possessed an awesome artistic eye ....yes, I learned all that from this video, and did I mention that she had a special way of communicating ... Love and respect to Vivian ...
As a lifelong fine artist & pure creative myself, I strongly relate to Vivian Meyer's unique POV & genius for capturing photos of strangers in downtown neighborhoods at their most candid. Her wonderfully composed self-portraits via ornate & gilded mirrors in store displays through the storefronts' windows containing the secondary reflection of her capturing the shot, are genius at depicting in a single-shot photograph her ability to summarize the richness of her inner world in the layers of that single image, without any sort of post-editing. I am so happy that she is recognized, even though posthumously, from an accidental auction purchase by John Maloof, the film's co-director who discovered her work: I learned of her about 7 years ago from the documentary 'Finding Vivian Maier.' I see her as a creative peer: able to find the living blood & pulse of life in the most seemingly banal of settings
These pictures may as well have come from another planet. The people's looks, their expressions their clothes, their activities--all show a seemingly foreign world. Or is it just the way VM chose to portray it? I've seen one reviewer judge her photography as boring, insipid. I believe it is quite the opposite. She saw her time on Earth like no other has.
On top of her great compositions as well as the capture of lights and shadows, we should not forget that she had great lenses with her Yashica (I believe) as performant as the top lenses we use today (so far). Great selection here.
Some pictures are sad, melancholic, because there is what is on them. But most of them are sad for me because that time is gone. One would like to be a part of those fragments of stories. Unfortunately, nothing can be returned. We live our amazingly sad time of cell phones and alienation. She deserved be in Magnum Photos agency.
She gives the impoverished and the ordinary such dignity and gravitas . She sees beauty in things most pass without a thought. And she would have been one hell of a portraitist! I wonder what she was thinking as she took some of these. . . .
John Maloof, acquired some of Maier's photos in 2007, plus her photos were published on the Internet in July 2008. She died on April 21, 2009. So, she was alive when her photos were discovered? What does that say about the people posting her photos on the internet, without her permission?
It seems Vivian Meier did not financially profit from these photographs in any way. However, once purchased and discovered it appears that many people have turned a profit in presenting these to the world. I have no problem with that. My question: Considering that many people's faces are shown, was the signing of a release needed? What are the legalities here?
U know what's crazy is that no one ever claim to know the ppl she photographed, like tow homeless ppl on the street or the child with the adult, or the women in fur coats.... I find it odd and I know each one has a story to tell
Thank God Vivian's work was discovered. Outstanding.

I’ve only been able to watch this a few minutes at a time. I have to stop and try to absorb what I’m seeing. I’m overwhelmed by her greatness.
Amazing. Simply breathtaking. I had never heard of Vivian Maier until an hour ago. Now I don't think I will ever forget her.
You should watch the documentary on her
I did.@@fodgepodge
Timeless. The work of a master. Such a pleasure to watch.
Fantastic quality. One of the greatest photographer in the history.

Thank you for keeping her vision alive and the true nature of still photography

I really enjoy this video. Maier is one of my all time favorite street photographers.

I understand!!!!!!!!!!! :) We would have crossed paths plenty....and still do.
why are her photos so incredibly sharp? I saw other people with a Rolleiflex copying it and she is always a tad sharper, better.
I have that camera. It was my dad's.
INSPIRING !!!!
wow.
Vivian te amo!
Mindfulness.
👏👏👏👏
Мне нравится ❤
Better with sound turned off.

Seems to have the same sort of eye as Cartier Bresson. She was an Artist.
