- In this video I will show you how to access your windows PC from your iPad from anywhere in the world. You can not only control your computer from your iPad, but also copy files from your windows PC to your iPad with just drag and drops. This is not just when you are on your home network, but also when you are trying to access your PC from outside your home network. Ever wondered if
This is like a location independent way to access your windows PC from the iPad.

For anyone who is unable to sign in with their user account and password, you might be on a microsoft account instead of a local account. I created a short to show how you can switch to a local account: ua-cam.com/users/shortsuY_aN_MnFHA
.
You shouldn't lose access to your microsoft services. Anything you are signed into can still be used with your microsoft account.
is it possible to sign in using microsoft account?
Is it possible to use both screens at the same time without the pc logging you out when you connect remotely?
@@shunkar1787 It is.. for me it didn't let me at first.. so i signed in with local account. That worked. Then switched back to Microsoft account and attempted signing back in to rdp. Then it worked..
Out of all the 20 minute tutorials out there this was the only one that went into access from outside your private network
Happy to help. In my opinion accessing while on the same network is less useful in a personal/home network situation because why won’t I just walk up to my computer. So I had to include a way to access it from outside your network because that’s what I would have wanted.

Excellent tutorial. Short and to the point. I was able to setup VPN communication channel between my iPad and Desktop. Thank you so much Geet Madan.
I'm typing this on my ipad using remote desktop from my laptop. This is so cool. Solidworks is running on "ios"..........
I have been looking this up for this lol
I want to do this for my fusion360
Thankyou! Easy to follow and doesn't take ages to explain.
Glad it was helpful!
Effective tutorial within short time . Thanks a million🥰
I am glad it helped you. Thank you 🙏
The best explanation that i need is this. thank you so much.

Awesome video thank you !
Amazing video, straightforward and accurate! Thank you so much, you have a new sub!! :)
Great information! Thank you very very much!
Everything works! Thank you so much!
thanks this helped alot. now i can acess my pc any where.
I love Remote Desktop bc I can access my mic and video camera, but I could never access outside my house thank you for showing tailscale! I've been using splashtop to work but no video passthrough
It is amazing dude! I love the file transfer feature.
Can also use port forwarding,,,, you don't need another app
Thanks for the info my friend.
Excellent video, keep the good work.
Such a simple and amazing setup man. thank you so much :)
Geet, thanks for the video!
Hey Geet! Thanks for the great video. I was able to follow along and got everything set up, however on my Windows 11 Pro laptop, Tailscale shows that it does not have an internet connection even though the computer is connected and working. Any ideas? Thanks again!
Great tutorial, +1 for introducing us to tailscale, really nice software to have
No problem man! I love Tailscale as well. It is a great tool to access local media on the go as well.

hey, im trying to do this but i always get error code 0x204. I tried to enable RPD, public facing ethernet, network profile in shared mode. Would love to get some help from you. Thanks.

Hi, Thank you for the fantastic video
I have a OBD dongle for cars and it runs via USB and Bluetooth controlled by Windows laptop.
The Question is:
With you type of setup I can send\share simultaneously the Bluetooth and USB connection from IPAD to my remote PC for processing on PC the OBD software connected in remote through the IPAD?
Than you
I don’t think you can do that. For that to work, iPads would need to offer a pass through service for Bluetooth devices. I don’t think that service is offered right now.
@@GeetMadan thank for the answer. USB connection can?
Thank you !!
Happy to help
Hello man, Awesome video, what happens if the pc is sleeping or off? RD has a wak on lan feature?
Thank you for the kind words! I don't think that is a feature of remote desktop, but you could set that up separately.
How do I copy files from Rdp to Ipad?
I need something callrd windows 11 pro but i dont have it what do i do?
Hello. This might be a stupid question, but is it possible to connect something like a Kobo ereader to the iPad and use Calibre on the Windows Remote Desktop to transfer books from the Remote Desktop to the Kobo? I’m really wanting a mobile solution to using Calibre, but I don’t know if remote desktops can work in that way. Thank you :)
iPad don’t have a usb pass through mode. I know you can share headphones, mics and cameras but I don’t think you can pass through a device directly
Thank you ❤
How do I do it on home?
Great guide, I finally found a useful video and set up RD Client! Thanks!
Happy to help!!
Now can i code with my ipad?
omg you can even type on touchscreen. sick o_o
RASENSHURIKEN!! you got a sub, my fellow nerd 😂😂
Perfect!!
Hi! Is it possible access my windows PC from a iPad, edit and use with adobe shortcuts on the ipad keyboard?
Yeah. I don’t see why not. If I can edit videos, you can definitely edit photos.
How to full-display this RD Client when using external monitor ?
As of right now, RDP doesn’t support external displays on iPad. Hopefully they will update the app soon. Here is an open thread about this on MS Forums: techcommunity.microsoft.com/t5/azure-virtual-desktop-feedback/rdp-with-ipad-pro-m2-connected-to-an-external-display-does-not/idi-p/3724654
If you can please upvote it.
Hey thanks for the video, was helpful but now I have one problem when I connect to the computer using ipad or iphone the windows screen log off. Sometimes I need to show work on the screen to the other person remotely. So how to keep the windows open on that computer while I’m remotely connected to it?
Thanks
You might wanna look at something like anydesk or team viewer for your workflow. RDP uses your iPad screen and disables the screen connected to the PC.
ive been out of this for awhile.. how are you using the mouse? Does the IPAD support blue tooth mouse now?
Yes. IPad gained proper mouse support with iPadOS 13 you should be able to use a Bluetooth mouse with remote desktop as well.
Hi Im stuck on the user account and pass word RD client on ipad.. So do I input the windows computer username and do I then need to create a new password even though it states optional?
If you use a MS account with your windows, you won't be able to access it through RD client. you will have to switch back to a local account. It shouldn't affect how you interact with windows in any way, just that you will be on a local account instead of a microsoft account. Here is a video showing you how you can do that:
ua-cam.com/users/shortsuY_aN_MnFHA
I followed as explained in the video but i'm keep getting error code: 0*204
I have subnet number at the end of ipv4. Do I need to consider subnet mask as well ?
Can you please help ?
That error code usually means that RDP is not enabled or some security related restrictions. Is your computer managed by an organization by any chance?
May I know does this app supports full screen external display connected to iPad?
I apologize but I don’t know the answer to that question. My ipad only has a lightening port. Check Reddit maybe?
what is user/domain option i couldn't figure out please share
You will have to switch to a local user on your windows pc instead of a Microsoft account. You can then use that as your login and password on RDP. Please review the pinned comment to see how you can do that.
Is there a way to turn on pc with this method? Sometimes i am out and have files to send in emergency and this could be helpful
It won’t be through this method but you could setup wake on lan on your pc. It will allow you to wake your pc from sleep if you are connected to Ethernet. Or you could connect your pc to a smart plug and enable power on with AC power setting. This way you can quickly toggle the smart plug and you pc should start boot up process
Can you use any VPN service, or does it have to be the one you mentioned?
I believe you can but I am not sure what VPN services allow for this functionality.
tutorial how to move video files from ipad to rdp. help please
I’m working on something similar. Not through RDP but another app that claims over 2Gbps transfer speeds
got it to work, but my keyboard really doesn't work when playing games. Esc key takes me out to Ipad homescreen. I can't use arrow keys in games. Emails work fine
You should look into game streaming services(steam link maybe). Those services are optimized for low latency.
How does file transfer work in this remote connection? Are you able to copy and paste?
For me copy and paste hasn't been reliable. but your iPad storage shows up as a media device in the Explorer app on your remote PC (given that your turned on the storage toggle). If you wanna copy ipad files to the pc, you can place the files in the RDP folder in files and they should be available on your pc in the same iPad folder.
how about home edition of window ? is there a work around solution ?
Yeah there is another RDP host tool. you can try this wrapper github.com/stascorp/rdpwrap/releases
Maybe somebody can help- I have downloaded Tailscale and connected all my devices and this will still not work outside of my local network. I have enabled remote desktop, checked firewall settings, everything. I can connect when I am on the same network, and I even tried to connect to my phone's hotspot and run a remote desktop. All worked but when I leave the network it decides to stop and I get a 0x204 error.
i am stumped. i don't know why are you facing this. when you ping your tailscale ip address, are you getting a response?
Any updates? Also facing the same problem.@@GeetMadan
Will this log out the local user? Can the PC stay active while being remoted by iPad with RD client? Essentially 2 users using the same PC at the same time, one local user and one remote user
Not with windows pro. You can have simultaneous remote desktop sessions with windows server. I doubt even that would allow remote and local access simultaneously.
How fast does such a system work? what is the delay and how many fps do you get in the end?
I have no idea. It is decent enough to do basic things. It also depends on how good your network is. If you want to play games like this, this might not be the solution for you
how about teamviewer ? which is the best ??
I mean I dislike everything about TeamViewer. There spammy email practices, the stupid notification that shows up and the fact you get ultra low resolution on headless PCs. So I am gonna say RDP
Hey bro i need a suggestion! So I’ve this highly configured gaming pc that’s enough for my uses but since I’m moving to college and already have an ipad i wanted to know if itd be able to handle my everyday chores in college. PS ive noticed the resolution is a bit low while ive a nice gpu installed in my pc
you mean the ipad for your college work? or do you mean if you can complete your college work via remote desktop? Either way, unless you are not going to be working with 3d models, videos and high res images, you should be good. remote desktop is not ideal for anything that requires a steady frame rate.
@@GeetMadan Hey Geet! great video!
I noticed you wrote that remote desktop is not ideal for anything that requires steady frame rate. I have a program on my laptop called SolidWork, which creates 3D models and runs simulations, and I was considering using remote desktop for this sole purpose. What do you think? would I get a smooth experience with it?
I have used solidworks over RDP and it is definifely usable id you have a good connection. But if you use tailscale, you will see frame drops or choppiness when you manipulate models and assemblies.
Any way to enable the sound of windows in ipad?
Yes. When you first setup the connection you should see an option for sound. Choose "Play on This Device" and you should get audio routed to your iPad.
idk why but mine wont connect to my pc
I have an iPad and an iPhone. It works perfectly on both devices. Except on cellular data on my iPhone. How can I fix it ?
It should work with Tailscale installed. Is your computer online on the Tailscale app on your iPhone?
Is there a way to switch between multiple displays on the target computer? Looks like I'm stuck to monitor 1 in the IPAD app and I didn't find any option to cycle between displays
This doesn’t mimic your existing monitor setup on the iPad. When you sign in on RDP, you won’t see anything on your computer. So your iPad is the only monitor it renders for. There shouldn’t be a second display to cycle to.
@@GeetMadan You're right, just had a bug because some windows would not appear first time I tested this. Did not have any issue since then. This is awesome ! Thanks for the video btw
does this also work with macbook, especially with tailscale?
Yeah it would work the same way. Both the apps are available for macOS
It is not working one my laptop. I have window 11 Education edition....??
So, do you have an option to enable to Remote Desktop in your settings?
Very nice video, I wonder if the battery for ipad would run out fast or not🤣.
I haven’t had any issue with it. But it’s like any other app that constantly uses WiFi. I also don’t use RDP for extremely long sessions at a time, so it could be different if you use it for hours at a time.
@@GeetMadani wonder why u ont use chrome remote ? Its faster and better I think
@@iluminatibox9949 Chrome Remote Desktop is a great solution if it works for you. I prefer RDP because it is a native solution for windows, it works even when I don’t have a display connected to my computer, it utilizes the native resolution of the iPad and most importantly, I don’t use chrome (i use Firefox for my browser needs)
I followed all the steps you mention, but I can’t connect with my user account. I don’t know if I’m doing it wrong, but I’m using the username and password that I use on my desktop PC. Please, help me with this!
You might need to switch to a local account. Take a look at the pinned comment for the solutions.
Hey help what’s username/domain and password I’m not getting it
That’s your windows login information
The easier way to do this without the need of a vpn is using port forwarding. You need to access your home router and forward the rdp port (usually 3389) to point to that computer you want access to. Once you do that, you only need to know your public ip address of your homenetwork, that way you can just type in your public ip in RD Client and all will work.
There shouldnt be a need for a middleman or software or vpn. Just direct access to your pc over the internet.
Port forwarding opens holes in your network. Call me paranoid but I am not a fan of that. Tailscale although appears like a con but it creates a virtual network only between your devices. And allows you to connect from outside your network through an encrypted connection, and your home network stays secure(ish)
would this be the fastest possible remote desktop? like less lag?
@@CosmosisArmada to get the best performance, make sure to turn on H.264 in ur settings to get the highest fps
Does this still work? I do all the steps, but when I click my “PC” to connect, it says “The User Account Did Not Work” “The user account used to con next to the remote PC did not work. Try again.
It’s asking me for a password , I tried my PC’s password but nothing
You might be using a microsoft account. You need a local account for this to work.
@@GeetMadan can you elaborate on that please? Do you mean I have to logout of my microsoft account in order to use the app or what?
@@pooyadelfani7898, exactly. Give up the Microsoft account for a local account in order to connect remotely from your device to your Windows PC. I’m paying for the anual subscription but I do login through the browser for some services or even manually for some downloaded apps in the meanwhile. Because I really need the remote connection.
@@pooyadelfani7898 I created a shorts video to show how you can switch to a local account: ua-cam.com/users/shortsuY_aN_MnFHA

Hi, thank you very much for the video, I have 2 questions
1) Is using tailscale vpn service safe and secure?
2) My rdp connection is slow how can I make it more responsive and faster
Happy to help. So for 1. Tailscale is really secure. It pretty much setups a firewall between you and your computer and send encrypted data between the two. It is like setting up a personal vpn with WireGuard, which is a opensource standard for vpn encryption. It is super safe.
For speed, I haven’t had that issue until like yesterday. I restarted my computer that seemed to have fixed the issue for now.
@@GeetMadan ohh ok thanks

When you try to connect, it should provide a prompt to enter your login and password. the login and password has to be windows local user account and password. If you currently use a microsoft account for your PC, you might have to convert it back to a local user or create another user on windows that you use only for remote desktop.

Great vid, can you connect usb to thunderbolt port on iPad and use with windows remotely?
from what I can find on the internet, i don't think USB pass-through is supported by iPad. I don't personally have USB C iPad, so I can t' confirm if that has changes recently.
What if you have signed in to your Desktop with your Microsoft Account and not a Local Desktop Account ? How to connect in this case ? I am getting error in that case

@@GeetMadan Perfect Thanks Brother man
Very straight forward and educative 👌
I have three questions, please.
For both steps to work,
1. The PC must be onn and connected to the internet right?
2. The PC must remain unlocked while onn also right?
3. If the PC sleeps, can you wake it from the iPad and then unlock the PC from the iPad?
Thanks.
Thank you! Happy to help.
1. Yes the PC must be on and connected to a network.
2. No. It doesn’t have to stay unlocked. You don’t even need for the computer to have a display.
3. If the PC sleeps, you will need to wake it up through another means. RD Client won’t be able to wake a pc from sleep. I would recommend looking into Wake On Lan if you have a LAN cable connected to your computer. This might seem complicated, but it is super simple with the right apps. @@GeetMadan I was looking for an application for remote work. I have used TeamViewer, and almost every application available on ios. because my desktop is at my home, and I work in my office, what I only have was iPad and a keyboard. there was some problem in the network setting because my network host is two-level designed. the IP address of the outside does not match my network's. one thing that I currently struggle with is, the key-down(keep pressing) is not working in some applications such as (games or other programs except for Windows). the system can figure out the single input such as typing, but when I keep pressing the button, it detects only single input. So I cannot test my game engine on remote work. I cannot catch out the reason for this, but still happy that I can do remote work.
Will this work with secure government laptops?
I don’t know for sure but my guess would be that wouldn’t work. your admin has probably disabled Remote Desktop functionality on windows completely.
How about anydesk
