resellers absolutely suck, we work actual jobs, we sell our time, and just when we got some cash on hand after paying everything else, retro games are expensive, legos are expensive, so much is expensive, ALL BECAUSE SOMEONE WANTS A QUICK BUCK OFF PEOPLES HOBBIES
Now i want to post a pic of my entire brick collection that censores every non lego set so the image would basically just a full blur with one or two small sets being uncensored. That would certainly piss off the mods
To be fair, the Mos Eisley Cantina post (just checked) got downvoted into oblivion and there's not a single person in the comments not laughing at the scalper. Most upvoted comment says that he's working at a LEGO store and knows who the resellers are, so they give them the most scuffed and damaged boxes possible lol
You forgot the part where the sub is flooded with microbuilds. Like seriously a moc that probably took hours to create only for it to be out done by a microbuild that was made out of extra parts in a few seconds.
I do microbuilds. Depending on the complexity they can take just as much time as normal Mocs. Unless you’re referring to builds that use 3-4 pieces, but even then, most people who post those are children looking to share a fun thing they made (the intention of Lego in the first place) and there’s an entirely separate subreddit for mini lego builds which is where I see most of those.
I got permanently banned on the main sub for 'brigading' for trying to help a dude who was just asking why his post got nuked. I told the dude that the mods are super strict with non-Lego and to just post the pic with the set out of frame. It seems like they monitor r/legocirclejerk posts for posts about them and ban everyone who comments in a post where they are mentioned. It's ridiculous lmao.
Honestly, the one rule ill defend is the "only lego rule". Its pretty apparent its only there to cover the subreddits ass legally. Here (Germany) independent toy stores got lawsuits from lego just for having "Steine" (Bricks in German) in their name or using a building brick logo - which I should note lego doesn't hold any copyright to, not even inventing that style of building brick. Being an *unofficial* forum for a product and discussing competition and especially bootleg products is a great way to draw the ire from a company if their lawyers want a raise. The enforcement of it obviously is a different story.
You cannot be serious. You think Lego gives a damn if their fans talk about non Lego products. I can understand them banning talk about knock offs but not being allowed to show off other branded brick products is one of the worst things about that subreddit. You look at other hobbies and they're not that anal. Like the Hot Wheels subreddit still allows you to show off other brands of die cast model cars
My main broblem is the toxic positivity. Any criticism about lego is met with mass downvotes and aggressive comments, no matter how reasonable you are.
You used the wrong flair and touched a fake/custom Lego in your life. Your video will get taken down. Also I am on the circlejerk, but sometimes the sub is more flawed then the main sub.
I once made a tiny commented mention of buying a knock off set to display because I was too cheap to buy the real one, and they removed it without mercy, truly incredible stuff.
3:32 Nah man that's just insane, like unless that was clearly a set not produced by lego, how on gods green earth would they know it's a non official lego product? I cannot imagine sitting on my computer all day, looking at greatly upscaled images to the pixel in order to determine if a set has 100% official lego bricks, that's a whole new level of deranged to the point you might as well not be able to post any images to the sub since you can't tell if bricks with the studs covered are official or not. I barely use reddit as it is, subs like this remind me why.
1:13 They don't just get lost, they get deliberately suppressed by the mods. It's insanity - if you spend enough time on the sub, you'll notice it. Any time a post gets too much traction, the mods lock the comments because I guess they don't feel like doing their jobs. Or maybe they're just bitter. It was even done to the incredible, universally beloved dragon MOC by mydonny1986 that received over 25k upvotes, robbing him of all the well deserved praise his work should have gotten for no good reason. They also of course remove any criticism of their abhorrent modding, constructive or not.
These are definitely valid complaints, many of which I hold as well, but I do think r/LEGO is a great place to share MOCs, which is exactly what I use it for
I had a post regarding MILS and how I went from 3rd party to original LEGO plates, because they were more consistent, and I therefore didn’t recommend 3rd party. That post was also taken down “this is not LEGO”.
Being a hobbyist in a post-Covid world just isn’t fun across the board. In pretty much every community there’s been a rise in scalper culture and know-it-alls, insane resell markets. Hopefully in a couple more years it calms down but I’m not holding my breath.
I’d be really surprised honestly. I think Star Wars is a bit different because it’s like “space alcohol” if anything I could see MAYBE a gwp of either a micro/midi scale version or Moes express with the upcoming simpsons house because it would give them the ability to put moe lenny and carl in a set.
Honestly, I don’t think r/lego is that bad. Right now, I think it’s one of the only places in the community where there is little to no hierarchy. On UA-cam, a lot of the big LEGO UA-camrs act with this sense of elitism. Their thoughts, opinions, experiences are all that matter it seems. Because of that, a rando like me doesn’t feel heard. But on the subreddit, everyone is fairly equal and people share unfiltered, honest comments. There is something to be appreciated about that. And I kind of understand the no alternative brands rule, because the subreddit is about LEGO specifically. But it is silly that you can’t even mention Mega or any other brands. My least favorite thing, though, are the people making haul posts. Especially when they claim to have found some super rare set either for cheap or in their family’s possession. Where the subreddit does shine, however, is in the MOCs. The members of r/lego know how to build! I love seeing the random build techniques or MOCs they make. I think it’s worth checking just for that honestly.
I would say that this is one of the good things about r/lego that the reviews and opinions on sets there tend to be much better in my opinion. Like I watched a review of the new captain America red hulk set yesterday and the UA-camr legitimately tried to justify a 55 dollar set that small because it comes with a big fig. The problem I believe is most reviews out there are by already decently wealthy people receiving products for free. Because of this their ideas of whether something is a good value is changed maybe even subconsciously. Not to mention many don’t want to ruffle any feathers at Lego.
I have no problem buying Non-Lego, Non-Copies, of sets or figures. I have a large collection of Brick Deadpool figures and Warhammer 40K figures that I can display.
1:00 Lego hasn't been promoting to be creative with their sets since quite some time. It takes one look underneath a modern Lego set to see that they just put random colours in there to get rid of colours that are used less frequently which in turn makes most sets unusable for getting bricks to build own stuff. This in turn promotes this uncreative thinking and with the horrendously high prices some Lego sets are sold (and still include stickers) it's also no wonder that people care more about their boxes than what's in it.
The resellers are a vocal minority of Lego fans. Most of the people buying lego - regardless of age- do not care much about "INVESTING". This is just a syptom of reddit being social media. Sharing a box of something expensive/something you just bought is gonna get instant validation. Actual creativity doesn't. I.e r/synthesizers is a consumerism subreddit where you post the box of the synth you just bought. Barely any uploads there are questions about making music/sounds on a synth or even about music made on a synthesizer. People literally go to the *circlejerk* synth subreddit for actual questions and advice. A sub meant to be shitposting- yet it ends up being more reliable.
Lego set designers have said in interviews that they include different colors inside sets FOR builders, so that you're not just getting the dominant color scheme of the set but other colors as well, increasing the supply of more colors. This makes sense to me as they use things like teal from time to time, which is neither a cheap nor common color, so sneaking it into sets as a filler brick is a nice way to get more of it. The only people I've seen get upset about this are star wars and castle builders who only care about grey bricks, and that's boring so I love that Lego puts colorful bricks where you can't see them.
@@Thinginator Yeah I love seeing colours hidden inside LEGO sets when building them, I've also heard it helps with the building process as it makes it easier to differentiate between the different pieces. And the easter eggs, like the swedish flag inside of the Koenigsegg Speed Champions set, are fun :)
That is absolutely a reddit moment

W worker
I will now specifficaly upload photos of my worst bootleg figures on there now

I laughed way too hard at the Big Ben moc with the second bus. I am staring at the Big Ben set on the table across from me now.
You know what you must do.
@ I even have the correct bus from the Buckingham Palace set

Investors are the worst part of any collector hobby. I am fan of Bionicle and investors got hold of the market during covid.
circle jerk is actually sometimes funny, unlike the normal lego sub lol
I'm gonna spam them with figures from aliexpress.
It kind of feels like Facebook group page when you go on there
Honestly, the one rule ill defend is the "only lego rule". Its pretty apparent its only there to cover the subreddits ass legally.

Nah that's the worst rule of the lot. They aren't gonna get sued its just not gonna happen

redditors are such a joke LOL

Yea they can be overly cynical and repetitive at times tbh
This is the first "THE PROBLEM WITH [BLANK]" video where there is actually a noticeable problem with it

thank you for introducing me to Lego Circlejerk. Them stuff's hilarious.

WHY ISNT THIS LONGER, HOLY SHIT. ive heaqrd of (and seen) authoritarian, if not daconian rulesets on site but, this IS GOLD!
Thank you lmaooo! I hope to do a deeper dive into it sometime in the future lol

Reddit mods are such an insufferable maniacs
Bro is complaining about his Box. I mean at least the Lego ain’t damaged.
Do you think LEGO will make Moe's Tavern when Simpsons returns? Because the Star Wars Cantina is LITERALLY A BAR.
Real lego fans include 3rd party and bootleg lego

Guys I accidently turned my Lego Cloud City Boba Fett into a potato how will this affect the resale value.
Value obliterated
Love when a reddit goes asslume
I got banned from r/lego because I said “they needs better moderators” in a comment on a whole different sub Reddit💀
Literally 1984
Why did the mint mos eisley guy decide if his photo of box damage needed anything, itd be an american flag blanket below the box?
Guys I plugged in the controller to the LEGO® NES™ set.© How will this affect the resale value?
0:16 love it 😂
