I have Starduster still from when I got him in the late 80s. Pretty sure version 1C but I have the jet pack... I cant recall how I got the jetpack as I never owned Grand Slam. Oh well it was over 30 years ago so maybe a friend gave me the pack.
Excellent review of Star Duster! I have always loved the idea of Jump Jet packs replacing the use of parachutes for my air bourne troops. The mail-away figure from 87 that I manage to have as a young collector was Steel Brigade. I loved the idea of your own custom action figure and writing a file card. Fun features to have while building a collection of any kind.
I didnt know they were still selling the cereal in 1987. I remember first seeing the cereal in kindergarten which would have been like 1984 for me and I dont remember seeing it in the grocery store much longer after that. I remember not liking the cereal too much and being disappointed because GI Joe was my favorite cartoon / toy.
I didn't even know about this figure until now. When you showed the catalog. I still have that catalog and remember seen that figure. Since I didn't see it on the cartoons he never caught my attention. To the point I didn't even know he existed. Nice video
Nothing really awesome about him, with the right spare parts and some paint you can make your own, hell, you can make your own version of Starduster or any Joe you want! Just hit those spare parts bin at toy conventions and you're set!
Like you I was getting out of JOE at the time he was available. When I started back collecting 3 years ago I thought the price was insane and swore I’d never buy one . At JOEFEST 2018 I bought one for 165 bucks . He is now one of my favorite figs .
I've had Starduster since he came out (1987). I started to seriously get into G.I Joe starting early 1986 (I was a bit too young for G.I Joe from 1982 to 1985, even though I do own a FEW 82 - 85 figures from my youth, but most of my original 82 to 85 figures are missing limbs. LOL). My parents got ALL the mail away figures for me so Starduster was one of them. He's still in GREAT condition and I still have him in a protective clear container on my shelf. I played with him a lot.
Seriously, was I the only guy still buying Joes when I was in 7th-12th grades? Had to back and double check. Thought you got a handful. Almost thought the good lady was gonna smack ya!
You wowed me! I did not even think this fig existed...my ignorance amuses me! I never searched yojoe.com or anywhere else as I too was done with collecting Joe toys by mud to late 1980s. It is rare I can say this, but you schooled me!!!! Great review, very knowledgeable. I have a patron question. You assign code names. I served in the US Navy and have a nickname/call sign everyone knew me as onboard my first boat. Due to the size of the submarine community, it followed me to my first shore duty, then onto my second boat. I never chose it, my supervisor, a senior chief Petty officer, gave it to me. Would that be my codename?
Great video Hoodie. Starduster was the third to last GI Joe to join my vintage collection. I got Red Ninja after him and I'm still hunting for Gold Head Steel Brigade.
I had the mail away catalog version of Starduster. I was old enough to recognized he was a cheap figure (all repainted parts), but I always liked him. I think I actually had 1B, as mine definitely had the Duke chest, but I didn’t recall the belt being unusual like Iceberg‘s.
I need that comic cause looks like a major Gi Joe vs Cobra battle happen near my home town by Vance AFB. I need to go and pay my respects by the Gloss Mountains where this battled happen. :)
Damn, that cereal has a lot of sugar! As for this figure, never heard of him until this video, good review! The wifey is a good sport about your shenanigans!
Hey Brian, love your videos, I had a star duster. Mine didn't include the jet pack or the pocket patrol, then like a fool I traded him on the playground for some backpacks and other accessories! I did acquire another one as an adult about 12byears ago, I paid about 75$. I think he way more expensive now
I begged my mom to get G.I. Joe cereal for weeks straight. She insisted I only wanted it because of the box. I wore her down and she finally bought a box. Though I wouldn’t dare not admit it, it was flat out disgusting. She had a policy that she would not buy a cereal until I finished the current box. The same box of Joe sat on the shelf for maybe two months or three months. She was right.
Ahhh..starduster aka frankenjoe lol. awesome review! I remember seeing him on the cereal box back in the day....but I could swear it was on more than just gijoe cereal...but my memory is more than likely flawed😆
Agreed on the overall take, average figure, his rarity pumps him up. I am light as a collector so expensive figures that are so so just plain don't make the cut for me.
Great review, too bad this figure is really rare, darn you hasbro, should have made these mail aways in large bulks, that way we have a change to add these interesting figures to our collections with low cost, what if somehow, somewhere, there is a factory that has these figures lost to time, the world may never know.
@@JoeMotionVideos82 wouldnt want him incomplete, the cheapest complete on ebay right now is 275..theres a cheaper one but his gun and visor were painted from common parts
This dude puts some real effort into his videos.
I remember getting this figure and I do not remember getting a jet pack.
I have 3 of them. 1 still in the bag. Mine didn't get the jet pack either. They came with the 3 figure carrier for your belt.
My favourite figure put him in the awe striker!
My friend gave me a V1c yesterday as a gift . He has 8 more stardusters and 1 V1a lol
Nothing says complete breakfast like a bowl of sugary goodness!

Guess Starduster was the Boba Fett of GI Joe! I think he's pretty cool.

My Airborne started going greenish on the blue part too. I kind of like it.
Nice review; I got version c in the mail as a kid, but was confused why he didn't have a backpack...but thanks, Action Stars cereal!

I hope you don't get sick from eating the 34 year old cereal...
I got this figure with the pocket patrol pack, minus the jetpack & file card (1c) in 1989. I think he was the only mail order figure I sent away for.
Seriously, was I the only guy still buying Joes when I was in 7th-12th grades?
Had to back and double check. Thought you got a handful. Almost thought the good lady was gonna smack ya!
The latest releases of the JUMP jet pack had the 90 to 94 logo on the pocket patrol pack.

Loved the commercial recreation! I ordered the GI Joe tee shirt from the cereal box and out grew it before it arrived.
I just got a black major remake and it’s absolutely beautiful
This is one of the few figures I didn't know that existed til now, and I had most of the 80's figures
I had Starduster as a kid, I got him with the pocket pack through mail away offer, couldn't tell you which version I had now though.
I had the mail away catalog version of Starduster. I was old enough to recognized he was a cheap figure (all repainted parts), but I always liked him. I think I actually had 1B, as mine definitely had the Duke chest, but I didn’t recall the belt being unusual like Iceberg‘s.

I rather like him. Not bad for a cereal tie-in

@Ayan Majumdar Don't worry about it, you'll understand when you're older.
I have a Mint package star duster ,did figure ever come with a sliver jet pack because I remember seeing advertised with star duster.
Still need to pick up a Starduster.
Missed opportunity to call him Ziggy.
That's a shame they didn't. Rock N Roll could have a band mate.
@@JoeMotionVideos82 Thunder was a drummer, and Shockwave would be on vocals. Budo was a metal fan, so maybe he plays too.

still waiting for that hedge hopper fig. any day now for sure...
Great opening bro
Great selection, I'm happy this one was picked. Great info on the flame retardant chemical, I learned something new. Thanks B!
and knowing is half the battle . G.I. JOOOOOOOOOE
Dude, I love your intros!
Great Review, I guess the only other figure that might come close is Gen Hawk v3 with his jet pack with wings?

The starduster box was released in 1985 and so were the mini comics. The figure wasn't released until 1987 the cereal was only available in 1985.

The only figures that reused Flash's head were steeler and starduster.
And Hawk V1.
@@jonbonson75 Right short-fuze too, it's just that their hairs were recolored blonde excuse me.
So basically it's just Flash but he used "just for men" to darken his hair.
Ha! I love the intro! Great review, keep up the good work. 😁👍
Kinda surprised he never got reissued as part of Star Brigade

One question
Did he play guitar?
There is a v1 and a V1A,V1B and V1C.V1A had the gun on his shoulder.Yo Joe is dead on.The original V1 had a grenade in place of the gun
Everybody got that?
Anyone else notice the file card misspelled "flak" as "flack"?
