As a qualified, professional and long time experienced racist, I can confirm they are grey areas. Southern Italians tend to have darker complexions, darker hair and eyes. Northern Italians can very often be blonde, fair skinned and blue eyed etc etc. Sicilians from the south have been mixed by invading groups like the moors or just generally mixed with other peoples like Greeks who tend to be darker skinned and their ethnic history is complex to break down in and of itself. So basically if you’re southern Italian or parents of southern heritage you’re likely genetically mixed and darker. If you’re northern Italian through and through much more likely to have Western European DNA and therefore fairer skinned and much more ‘white looking’. So grey area indeed.

Europeans in general identify more with their nationality than race, or wider ethnicity. A Czech person isn't "white", or even "celtic", "germanic" or "slavic". He's just Czech.
Cause nationality tells you what language(s) they speak, what type of government they've been under, what's their history, what historical figures they're used to, what music they're used to hearing, what food they're used to seeing, what temperatures and climates they're used to, what films and books they're likely to know... It really means nothing inside of America either. White people calling their selfs white, same goes for black people calling their selfs black, etc. People that do this allow for their cultural heritage to be erased.
It happens in most of Europe. I've met no one in Europe who doesn't identify with their nationality instead of their skin color, because you can know way more about someone from his nationality than from his freaking skin color. Things like language(s) spoken, culture, some things about their personality...
But still it annoys me so much as a european when people try to define everything by a nationality 😭 bc most of the time its just wrong. For example someone said 'Oh your father is so spanish for liking knives!' Like what ... Or 'dont you like pets bc of x nationality?' dont you hate this that that.?' Dont get me wrong Idc if someone says it sometimes but where I grew up it literally is the only thing ppl.talk about and its even worse if a specific natiomality is always depicted as bad behaviour. I guess its better than in America, lumping all ppl together bc of some skin colour. Sorry for that rant 😅
@@monito3575 yeah, you're right. That's the nature of stereotypes. I mean up to a certain point, it's safe yo assume that if someone is from x nationality, you can know a few things about them. For instance you can know the kind of political environment they've been exposed to,.you can assume they know the name of their head of state, and it's also safe to assume they have an opinion about those things, so there you have a few topics to talk about. But then there are countless other stereotypes, some of which as you said are bad. For instance I was born in Romania, and we Romanians are always stereotypically said to be thieves. I always take this jokingly, and, to be fair, it has a kernel of truth to it. We all know some such stereotypes. The Americans are "dumb", the french are stuck up, the British stab people, Germans are always angry and speak loudly, Spaniards are sleepy, etc etc etc. I often joke about these things, most often about my own ethnicity. But it's important to note that neither me nor the people I joke with think these stereotypes are true, nor do we use them to cause actual harm to others. Rather we're actually laughing at the people who actually believe these stereotypes, by over exaggerating them and sarcastically pointing out how true they are. Sadly we humans have stereotypes about everything and everyone, not just nationality but cultures, sub cultures, ages, generations, and so on and so forth. If all those stereotypes were true, I'd be a young, weak, effeminate, tech addicted, edgy, cleptomaniac organ trafficker who dreams of impaling Turks and drinking their blood while watching them writhe in pain, I would also not have my gf and I'd hate all women in the world. Or maybe I'd be a sunlight fearing, super strong, cold immune, hyper masculine tech genius and hacker that wants nothing more than to start a new company to change the world for the better. I've no idea why so many stereotypes exist about so many different things, and why they don't disappear. I've no idea what use they have in our society if any, but I actively try to remove them from my thoughts as much as possible and not let them bias my worldviews, and the same thing can be said about many people I know. I don't really know what can be done about the people who believe stereotypes are true, but we can try and contribute a little towards removing them or making people understand they're not real.
White and black, despite obviously deriving from colors, aren't about skin color, they're just the terms we use in America for caucasoids and negroids.

It really means nothing inside of America either. White people calling their selfs white, same goes for black people calling their selfs black, etc. People that do this allow for their cultural heritage to be erased.
USA is the only country where colors mean so much. You can see it everywhere they just can’t live without a red camp or blue camp to follow.
@@ADarnSmore yeah, but what is the definition of white, out with the American context, lug nut?
As an Italian AND Puerto Rican…you’re right. I’m not white but I am Mexican.
😂😂😂😂
So you’re white and Mexican?
Their are Mexicans of European descent, like 39 million, according to are last census. Most are of Iberian descent, Spanish.

“I don’t do it in public ANYMORE” 💀
