Oh my goodness! We have 3 crazy Jack Russells and I can't imagine moving over seas with these nutters. Everyone would be traumatized! My granddaughter and her husband came home from Japan to Michigan with their female long haired dachshund- then moved to New Mexico ( via truck). She still doesn't let them out of her sight.

I love, love the table of the kitchen, the pots. The corner cabinet, the round marble tables, the loveseat l think there are times when you love something for the aesthetics more then for its use and practicality.

Kids, I am so thrilled for you. However stressful it may become, I do believe, that together, Patrick and Stuart, this just may be much more fun in the end. Seems like what you are doing now is mostly logistical, I think. Once the arrangements are complete, you can make the move easily. Best to you both...

Hey there dear Frank. Thank you as always what a great comment. During the last 5 days we have been working on all the cosmetic things. Painting trim and walls to freshen them up, installing the remaining baseboards, rearranging furniture. It is funny, we did the same thing in our last home. The moment we wanted to put it on the market, we made it as perfect as we could……. It may be our way to let go and wish this wonderful home a happy future. We have a lot of planning to do but you are right, I believe, that in the end, we will get the logistics done, our dogs will be safe and it’s hello gorgeous! 💕💖💕

I love the settee! I love the higher curved back! It feels cozy and will cut any draft that might be in the room it ends up in. I see a lovely french blue velvet or navy on that piece. What a great collection of pieces to work with as you put your stamp on this lovely home.

That would be nice. We have one large crystal chandelier we hopefully will get to France without any damages. We have to remove almost 200 crystals. That’s going to be great. My guess is that we won’t go for any 1950s reproductions. The blue salon was refitted in Napoleon I. So that’ll be a very different chandelier. It is all very exciting. 👍🏻🥰👍🏻

All that is left is cleaning from 6 am to 10 am! Ha! We love the fact that we get furniture, that is in this chateau since 1810 or even before. The armoire is Louis XV. And we cannot wait to mix it all up and make it as glamorous as it should be. 😳😘. It’s after midnight now and we are having a cocktail and reading comments like yours make my day. 🥰🌹🥰

Love the kitchen just the way it is. I’ve seen chateaus done over with modern kitchens and bathrooms. It’s totally unnecessary to go modern. There are many reproductions that are very pretty and as ornate as you like. Love you bought all these pieces of furniture. Nothing wrong with an eclectic look.

    • @JourneytotheChateau
      @JourneytotheChateau  2 роки тому +2

We totally agree! We don't want to have modern looking kitchen/baths. We want to use fixtures/cabinets/tiles, etc. that are visually appropriate for the château. Thank you for watching! 😀

Hi there. We are talking about replacing the oak-ish cabinets with some 19th century looking kitchen cabinets and installing a huge buffet like the one we got at the auction for storage. We do really dislike the modern kitchen look in historic buildings. As for bathrooms, modern showers can be nice, it just has to be done right. We feel lucky that the family wanted the furniture that they bought in 1805 stays with the chateau. Hugs 💕🥰💕

I was surprised about the kitchen floor, I thought it was original as well. The floors in the dining room are gorgeous. I know how overwhelming this has got to be for ya'll! But a good friend once said to me, " How do you eat an elephant?" "One bite at a time" This is so exciting just watching the two of you achieving your dreams! Oh well, it was very enjoyable anyway even if there was only one. The room in your castle that looks like the Chambre de Roger is so beautiful because of that gorgeous Venetian mirror that Stephanie has and in all through the château, and the beautiful chandeliers. We have one Venetian mirror so far and have decided that transporting them across the Atlantic is not really easy (unless one builds big crates). The wallpaper seems original and we want to preserve it. We hope we will make it as pretty and as adorable as Stephanie did (of course in our own style). I poured us some rosé wine and it is Friday. Hi Stuart and Patrick. What a lovely vlog, I finally got to watch it before heading to bed. Here are a few things. Sending you a compliment, Stuart you look so different without your glasses, well done. Ok re the furniture hmm. Firstly love what you have chosen beautiful. I smell beautiful furniture polish, natural and rich..😊 photograph every piece you have yourself and get some swing tags and write notes on them about the piece and where it's to go. This will give you a record for your insurance as well. Inspect every piece for wood worm and treat it yourself, that may mean taking the piece out on the lawn and giving it a good spray, so take your draws out of cabinets, dressers, and spray in behind so nothing gets missed. Inspect your rugs and all stuffed furniture for blasted moths, you may need to get someone in to do the whole house for them. Get all of your rugs professionally cleaned. You will be surprised how different they will look and feel afterwards. The kitchens elegance is its simplicity. Other than a paint, the French doors and some new kitchen cabinets, I would leave it mostly alone. The little room with the sleigh bed was my favorite. The armoire will be 2.90 high when you measure it or pretty close to it. The room with all the beds ( the bunk room) they all have to go. If you look up in there, there are 2 bunches of flowers in blue on the wall behind the bed. There should be a large four poster there.. The table is exquisite, will go well in this room with a devine rug beneath. The little sofa in the corridor, I see deep blue thick velvet with large stuffed real downe pillows. Find yourself a top grade tappisaire? (Upholstery) ( not sure of the spelling) you are going to need him, ask the locals for recommendations.. like the others said live in the house a good while before making changes and when you do document it. The dogs. I feel your pain. 2 cats 3 parrots $10k. A private jet will pay for its self. Off to bed, kindest regards Kim😊👩‍💼❤❤ ps it's almost 11.30, big day.

I love the smell of furniture wax. I rub my George III secretary with glazed bookcase twice a year with a wonderful British polish. It is such an iconic scent. Growing up in northern Germany, I am all too familiar with wood worm. My father already has a 5 liter container of concentrate ready for me to take. We had the entire chateau and farmhouse inspected for woodworm, termites and dry rot! Better safe than sorry. You are right, there is on,y one placement for the bed in the huge bedroom. That will be one of the B&B rooms eventually. I like the velvet idea. Another comment mentioned a nice toile. So many wonderful options we will have. We have gotten some amazing input about our dogs. We may need to go with the private plane option. Couldn’t forgive myself loosing our little monsters. Thank you so much Kim for your wonderful comment. All noted! 💕🥰💕

Hi Guys, thanks so much for this video. I can only imagine the stress you are under, while still being happy and excited for the future. As for the continuing videos - Have you heard of 'UA-cam #shorts'? They must be less than a minute, sometimes 30-45 seconds. Just quick blubs, segments, tiny updates, or mini look what we saw or found clips. Ash and Terry from Escape to the Dream started using them recently. THE BIG DEAL is that yt is promoting these free and heavily to compete with tik tok. This is free advertising (it must be properly labeled, there are loads of videos on them) that you could use during this hectic time. A lot of content creators just use their phones for these. Not sure if this will help, but I love your vlogs and wanted to mention it if no-one has. Best wishes for a peaceful move and relocation. Also I totally agree with Patrick about the high backed settee in the hall. Find some amazing fabric to recover it, and add mismatched pillows and throw for a homey elegant touch.

We will do as much as we can and cannot wait to be in France, sitting down to cheese, baguette and pâté and wine and be still….. classical music playing and then it will be….. home. Thank you for your support with the settee. There are suggestions… velvet in red, rosé or blue. Toile, toile that Stuart created or stripes…. What do you think? I have an open mind and it’s mine to upholster. 😉😘😉

@@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 Well... If it's in the chateau bolder for a main room with red or navy velvet (if you want velvet) , but if you find the right fabric I would go toile. Stuart's design is gorgeous, and likely the color could altered to fit the room.
In all honestly I would wait to get there and get a feel for the piece. Let it speak to you. You may go to a brocante and find a 'perfect' vintage fabric, or a pillow that gives you a vision for the whole setting. If the piece goes in a guest building and it's more rustic I would mute the color and go velvet. Like a rose that seems faded, or a rose that leans orange, a fancy throw back. However, France, blue is 'always' a favorite, so when in doubt mix shades of blue with whites or yellows. As a guest who wouldn't want to be wowed with a velvet sofa? I would. I would mute the color so it gives the vintage feel, but still elegant. You know like an old great lady that came from money.
Too much chatter, sorry. You have great taste Patrick. I know you will do something inspiring.

I love the settee ! I imagine sitting and chatting with a beverage or working on a laptop in front. I love this idea of putting it in the BnB rooms. I would love that in my room. The chaise in the salon was beautiful too. Getting building supplies to people who need them is ideal. Women's shelter for other things is so wonderful and even more wonderful to give locally to local communities that are in such incredible need. I make it a habit to research charities on the charity check website to check how much they keep and how much they actually give... usually it is the smaller charities that give the most to those in need. The Women's shelter is is such a great local cause. I know it is not customary to announce ones charities however since people are asking here it is so kind of you to share such a private matter. I am so excited for your new adventure and SCORE for your neighbors with the wine. Omg. Tschuss! 💕

Hello there. I agree, the settee is so cute. Having a bevearge and chatting is one of my all time favorite activities! Love it! I used to work for a non-profit that helped minority NGOs to get funding or with organizational help. Trying to stay local, as you suggested, is the best way to go. Of course there are important large organizations like The National Trust in GB that is doing great work too. This community is so close knot and supportive that we felt it was appropriate to share. We cannot wait and are looking forward to vacate this wonderful home to a new family. Tschuss and thank you so very much 🥰🥰🥰

They came into fashion in the Empire and were often used in pairs on either side of a fireplace. There was always a higher arm and a lower arm and the lower arm faced the fireplace so that a person could loll on them with a foot slung over (or even both feet) perhaps to warm the toes by the fire but maybe just to loll around. 😎

Firstly guys, blog and vlog when you can. Keep it fun for yourselves, we are going nowhere. I love the furniture. I to look for that patina that just has a magic of its own. Loved the kitchen table, that kitchen will be so beautiful. I once used old antique cupboards and benches to build a kitchen and had the sinks ect dropped into them. It doesn't have to be a built in. The rattan bed in that lovely room. So many beautiful and interesting pieces. And it will matter not it being a little eclectic, it just shows time passing by in the building and the different influences.
I to have had to ship my Afghan Hounds around by air! I was so upset as the animals simply do not understand what is happening. I did ask to sedate them, but that is out of the question. They all where fine and I think frankly they decided to sleep through most of it. They are checked on along the way as well at various airports. In truth my beloved dogs seemed to have no long term effect from it at all. Be kind to yourselves getting everything done. Once you have done the move, you will be so relieved and happy. And you will need lots of sleep and rest, mentally you are going to be exhausted if you are not already. Have a holiday of it first. Look into an AGA, English, and perhaps ca be used to heat much of the chateau. You can find reconditioned ones online for about £1,000. The fule used in the UK isn't or wasn't available in France, but there are alternatives in France. VERY CHATEAU !

Good morning, this was a fabulous update. I think you have done marvellously buying some of the furniture. I hope you could buy all that for a fair price! That display cabinet tucked in the corner, I think you can find another spot for it and display something wonderful in there, either silver or some Germen porcelain pieces. Hang on wait until you get there and things start to "move"!! You are not allowing yourselves space. Take one day at a time, there is no rush, even for 1 year, look back and see what you have achieved, and a year is nothing. Yes it would be great for an income during that time, it will come together, and your house presently, it will be sold to the right person. As you will make changes in France so will people make changes here, it is only natural. Once the house is sold let them do what makes them happy, it is not yours anymore. Your new life is going to be great, it is what you would love to have, so just go for it. That armoire is gorgeous, perfect for the room. Can't wait to see how you are going to change your new dwelling place, it is going to be exquisite. Take care, kind regards, Elize.

Neither of us is good in slowing down and breathing.... Thank you for the reminder. As far as this house goes, we love this property here in Woodstock. @@patrickjourneytothechateau8243 take care! A few years ago we downsized from two house to one. The house sold sooner than we thought. So both house had to be ready, one for selling, one for moving in full time, combining two house holds. I have had friends move overseas. Many of our neighbors returned from living overseas. Watched it all.

Oh, Guys. Herewith a tome... :) Such an adventure. I absolutely love the furniture you've bought to go with your new home. Very fitting. Your house in the US is so beautiful that I feel that it will sell quickly so I'm glad that you are already sorting out your dogs. It does take a while. I don't know about the US but here in South Africa, there is so much that has to be done to move pets that it may take a bit longer than you anticipate. I'm glad you are working on travelling together. It will give a lot of comfort to the furkids. This is a Google translate so I do hope it says what I want it to say. My French is rusty, so sketchy at best. "Je vous souhaite à tous les deux beaucoup de succès". I won't wish you luck, that transitory.

Felicity, thank you so very much. Glad you like the furniture. We love that most of the furniture is in the chateau between 200-300 years. 😘 hopefully we will sell here fast a d can move to France fast. The family is waiting on us before they vacate the chateau. They are wonderful. We need an international passport for our dogs. All dogs go to an animal hospital and they know what to do. Thank god. They are chipped and vaccinated and we give them notice to get the paperwork done with the authorities. My written French is so sad. English and German are great and I do understand Afrikaans. I speak passable French but I will have a big learning curve. We will make it. Thank you for your input and care for us. Hugs and be safe 💕🥰💕

That was a fun tour of the rooms, review of the pieces you selected. Scale, quality suitable to their spaces. I love that settee in the hallway. Happy to hear your plans, as they evolve. I have visions of window treatments, yum! The realtor who wanted to "take a look"? Shyness is rare in that profession. Hope you get a "ride" with your pets. Would be great if you could travel with them. All the best.

Glad you liked the tour. We are lucky to get the amazing furniture that was in the chateau for over 200 years……. Almost blows my mind. We will upholster the settee ourselves. Great project. As far as window treatments…. Ohhhhh yes. We have a sowing machine. Professional that my parents had checked and repaired. Pfaff and in great condition. Belonged to my granny. We are soooooo ready. 😂. We will get our dogs there healthy and happy to run….. thank you so much 🥰

The person who told you to sit and live in the place for a while before you change anything or decide what to do is 100% correct. We moved into a house about 20 years ago and there was trees out the front and they hung over the roof. Soon after we moved in we cut them down. BIG MISTAKE as we had moved in in winter and we realised very quickly in the summer that they kept the sun and heat out. Small trees big mistake.

You are so right. We did a lot of that in our current home too. We had to take down dying trees. But the point is absolutely important. We can relate to you and will be very careful and take it easy for a while. Prune roses, map what grows where and mow grass……. And wine and cheese. Then we will start our vision. 💕💖💕
