  • Route diary from Croce di Brancoli to the Parco delle Pizzorne in Lucca, Tuscany. Unabridged except for stops and camera pauses.
It's 99% off road. In places, it's rocky and steep, but of course the camera flattens the elevation changes and UA-cam compression algorithm ruins the original 4K quality to the point that you can't perceive how large some of the rocks actually are.
Gradually improving as an off road rider, and greatly assisted by the Norden, I found this trail easy.
If I went slower than I could, in places and especially at the beginning of the ride, it is because there could have been 4x4's literally around any corner, not to mention hikers (which I removed from the footage to respect their privacy).
The Michelin Anakee Wild are spectacular, on every surface. I do not regret the upgrade from the Pirelli Scorpion STR; they were incredible on the road but next to useless off road. Better than some 100% road tire, but not by much; they preserved some off road forward traction (when new) but laterally had no thread engineered to keep you planted on loose surfaces.
I follow the great Paulo Lataes ( @paulolataesOffroad ) and for this video I've followed his example and opted not to use and external microphone, but instead I ran the internal microphones, protected only by a foam windbreaker.
As you can see, seated it works up to 20 Km/h and standing up to about 45 Km/h before it fails.
But it's a good enough compromise if all you film is the off-road bits and, like me, you wanna keep it simple.
I had the wind reduction option turned on on my Insta360 One RS, is that why the sound it's either natural or completely muffled? Should I instead leave that function off for a more 'natural' result? Or would that be even worse? Does anyone know?
As always, the video is not made to entertain, so it's not short and edited down to the flashy bits! It's a full journal of the ride, so that I can show others interested to take that route what it looks like, where to get, and let them be the judge if it's a terrain they can handle.
Chapters duration matches legs duration for reference:
0:00 Vinchiana to Croce di Brancoli
4:15 Croce di Brancoli to Foce al Lupo
10:55 Foce al Lupo to Pian di Cavallo
13:03 Piano di Cavallo to Parco delle Pizzorne
