I don't think officers need to know every law on the books. That said, they should know the Constitution, Bill of Rights, and the basic laws dealing with their chosen position. I wouldn't expect a courtroom officer to know traffic laws, but a Highway Patrol Officer should. It's not unreasonable.
@@curezilla they should know it, but they are not required to interpret it. That's the job of the courts. Nor are they required to prove to you that they do know it.

I don't think that universal de escalation training would make any difference to officers with huge egos and thin skin, the same goes for officers who abuse their power/authority to bully or intimidate members of the public for self gratification.
The real problem is their qualified immunity. If there was universal de escalation training & policies, partnered with the end of qualified immunity, I think that would make the biggest difference. Basically it’s a fantasy, though, they’ll never end qualified immunity.
@@lindseystein9676 yeah, the police union won't ever let that happen. I'm hoping that one day we can get to a point where we all understand that just because a police officer said it, doesn't make it a "Lawful order"....there has to be an actual law to back it up.
Me too. That’s a great goal. Thankfully other than being unprofessional, that did not happen here as explained there is case law to back up their entrance procedures.

Corruption from the top down. Until the politicians are held to the same standard as us nothing will change. Regardless of how many cops are individually trained by the public, as long as they keep qualified immunity. Nothing will change.
Its not that we don't understand it, its that the courts have basically said it doesn't matter and we have to comply anyway and have zero right to defend ourselves when they do something unlawful.
I agree....also I have to disagree with the assumption that because "important government officials" are in this building that you NEED to relinquish your ID....first off they are public servants voted in office to do a job...let's not elevate them to godlike status ...and also...those individuals are NO safer by the fact those auditors gave up their IDs....a person who is actually there with malicious intentions could easily get fake IDs and continue unfettered....it's the actions once you enter the building what should be the important part...if you deemed someone "extra suspicious" for whatever reason...keeping an eye on their activities would prove more advantageous toward security than just checking an ID and letting them do whatever.
Ryan C: Lol, 100% Conditioning is real too. While I somewhat agree with your point, this is the capitol building and I would think they are trained to be super safe. Sometimes, the law officials can't win. Well said about the auditor, took the words right out of my mouth. Almost every auditor likes to scream "my 4th amendment" without actually completely understanding it.
What you need to understand is that just because one supreme court gives a ruling on the bill of right doesn't mean that they are right. As you can see with the overturning of all the 2nd amendment infringement that going on now. We have to get to the point in this country that the bill of rights is not something that another man can tell you that you can not do. The government did not give us our right so than can not take them away.
The supervisor said if they gave name and birthrate and could be positively ID'd based on that. The first guy never gave them that option, because he immediately snapped their heads off when they asked a question. That was the point where this procedure could be brought up.
I wish these video's would highlight legal vs lawful, now it's just thrown on one pile as if it's the same thing. Legal matters don't apply to men and women only persons. Paul Unslaved has a few video's making that point on trying to enter such buildings.
This is one of the reasons I enjoy this channel so much. There's honest balance. Both parties were, at points, clearly in the wrong and they got called out for it. Thank you!

Agreed. Why are a few 'High Ranking' persons given protections far beyond those given to the average member of the public, to the extent that the public's 'inalienable rights' can be cancelled out? Could it be that as the few high ranked public servants are the ones that make the rules, they can make them to suit their feelings? While ATA has shown that the rules are in place, and the Officers can enforce them, it doesn't stop the fact that the rules are essentially wrong to start with.
Nah, these officers had bad attitudes but every right to enforce the rules. They just did it in a manner that was rude and condescending. Unchecked power? The power to deny entry if you don't show an ID is unchecked?
Yep. It's more like a B for the cop and a D for the auditors. The cop was brusque, but he was correct to request an ID and just doing his job. He could act less like a drill instructor and be a bit more relaxed with the public, of course. The auditors were kind of making stuff up. While it's a shame we're stuck with all this building and airport security, and while there is lots of room for improvement overall, I don't know that having a single officer and a metal detector is all that egregious. TSA is a whole other story, of course. I don't imagine these auditors will head to ATL and try that, though.

@@RichM3000 I think a C- is fair enough for the officer. Although was doing his job correctly, it clearly wasn't because he actually understood it, just that he was doing what he had been told to. He's great at following orders to the letter, but not understanding the law behind the orders themselves; in this case the instructions he was following were correct, but they won't always be, and even when they are he seems pretty bad at actually explaining them, which is going to hurt his case for lawful action in more unclear circumstances down the line when he has to justify himself. If playing door guard isn't his only duty as an officer, I think he should probably get more in-depth training. Definitely agree re: the auditors, an uncomfortable amount of these people are out there giving the concept of auditing a bad name and making trouble where they really don't need to.

It’s sad that there isnt universal de-escalation training for officers.
Especially since de-escalation training is mandatory in all other first world nations.
I don't think that universal de escalation training would make any difference to officers with huge egos and thin skin, the same goes for officers who abuse their power/authority to bully or intimidate members of the public for self gratification.
There almost is but it doesn't solve the human issues: ego, pride, self-preservation, ignorance and complacency.
The real problem is their qualified immunity. If there was universal de escalation training & policies, partnered with the end of qualified immunity, I think that would make the biggest difference. Basically it’s a fantasy, though, they’ll never end qualified immunity.

@@lady4191 If you are going to "audit government overreach", you need to at least know your rights, correctly, first. Government owns some of those places, and yet somehow, the 4th Amendment guarantee against search and seizure isn't also somehow a free travel pass at the same time. Our government was created and founded upon inalienable rights granted and given freely by OUR CREATORS. Besides that, it was also founded upon the precepts that each individual was HIS/HER OWN SOVEREIGN Authority in title only, able to self govern him/herself, and could not take away the rights/liberties of another human being or own slaves because to do or acknowledge otherwise would invariably nullify the rights of everyone.

I disagree you should be able to enter a building without having to show id. This is bullsh!t because you should not have to pay to enter your own building. When you give up your name it allows it to be used or ran without your permission. Why people are continuing to be okay with submitting is beyond me!
