Hey I am a high school senior from Korea, applying to U.S. colleges. Thank you for making so many informative videos on college essays! They have been really helpful💗 Also, love that you've been to Korea through the NSLI-Y program!
@@LourDrickValsote Ahh, hard to say. I've been an outsider for a while but I finally started watching/reading stuff about a year ago so I'm still catching up on the classics :) Right now I'm trying to get caught up with the My Hero Academia manga, and season 4 of the anime ended a few weeks ago, definitely can't go wrong there!
Great video! I have a question, at 2:28, when you show the titles of the books, why do some of them have Quotation marks and some don't! I just want to learn more about writing my supplemental essays better. Thank you!
hey man ive been following your content for 2 weeks now and i just gotta say your second to last essay blew me away. I consider myself to average at best when it comes to writing, unfortunately though i'm a junior so I need to improve quickly. do have any tips on how to write like that or writing more effectively in general.
i think writing to a certain theme is pretty effective. it will also help to have someone that can read you essays and give feedback on them, especially if its someone who knows you well
How did u find out the Columbia values story telling on your 300 word supplement? Was that something you thought of or did you figure that out through research?
@@LourDrickValsote I’m trying to work a why Upenn(Wharton) essay and was rlly intrigued by the unique and meaningful way u went about it. What types of things did u look for in your research when making this essay, and do u have any tips for someone like me?
Excellent content! Thank you! Fort the lists, do you have to include the authors of the books or can you list the titles? Also, is there a preference in listing the items (ie. vertically or horizontally)? Thanks
Hi! I think it would be fine to leave out titles if the books are well known enough. And I don’t think it matters between listing horizontally or vertically but I did it vertically because it was easier to read
I don't read often and I was intimidated by the long list you had. I'm a junior. Should I start picking up more books or is it okay that I don't have an elaborate list?
Hey Mr. Valoste! I noticed that you are a very talented writer. Do you think that since you made that New Years resolution to read a book a week, that has helped you become a better writer? What books from your list would you recommend I read in order to become a better writer?
I’ve never thought about it like that before, but it makes a lot of sense. If you’re looking to become a better writer, I would say to read as much as you can. I don’t think the specific books matter as much, but being exposed to a lot of different writing styles can definitely help you grow
for the list of required readings, i was only able to put two because i only had two required readings in the past year... should i add more even though they werent required?
No way you did the nsli y program... my friend was supposed to go to Korea for that program too and i was supposed to go to Germany for cbyx this year but it got canceled
Thank you for sharing your supplements! Did you have any other "areas of study" that you had mentioned in your application besides East Asian Studies and just chose to primarily write about that major for the supplemental?

Great video! I have a question, at 2:28, when you show the titles of the books, why do some of them have Quotation marks and some don't! I just want to learn more about writing my supplemental essays better. Thank you!
The one's that have quotation marks are short stories or poetry and the one's that are italicized are books.

It’s definitely okay not to have a huge list. Mine just happened to be long because I coincidentally made a New Years resolution to read a book a week

did you get interviewed? If so, what kind of things did they ask?

ive been told that the requirements changed this year, so maybe you'll be able to add more? check the updated essay prompts to be sure
