In this video I attempt to make an army primarily consisting of greatswords, in a livestream on legendary difficulty without any mods....what could go wrong?

As the person who suggested this I want to say thanks for noticing me and doing the challenge and then this video. After that hell I think you should try something a little more simpler to pull off whenever you have the time for something like this. Start as Malus Darkblade to get the black ark immediately and build up your black ark to produce the highest rank troops which when combined with tech should allow you to get rank 7 shades w/greatswords. If you are lucky you can get the NoP that will make them rank 9. Pair them with a supreme sorceress of shadows and enjoy sitting back while they shoot your enemy to bits. The sorceress of shadows lore trait, Melkoth's Mystifying Miasma, and Pit of Shades should make it very easy to outrun your enemy and take advantage of the shade's stalk and vanguard traits. In theory you should be able to easily hide the whole army. I'd imagine it would be a very boring doomstack since there isn't much to do with this army and it is sounds very easy to manage. It does to me, a person who hasn't ever played the game mind you, but hey you've earned a break after this.

you want your units to run away, that's how they survive
Pretty much. The thing about infantry composition is that they need to be rotated to let the less damaged and less tired units into the fight while the others rest, while also using flanking so take out enemy units quicker
depends what you're using them for, if you need them to tank for your gunpowder units, then unbreakable is useful because it means that they're protected for longer. However, for a unit that takes 15 turns to get back, yeah not the best.

and auto resolves loves nothing more than to wipe out unbreakable units even in situations, where you are way way stronger than the enemy
@@HeavyMetalGamingHD Auto resolve is a joke in this game. There are fights where you would lose no models( yes not even units) at all, the auto resolve just wipes half your army away if you decide to choose auto.

I use alot of mods and for 1200 hours I have consistently used melee infantry on very hard

@@gamingrambles I play mostly Asur and Druchii so take what I'm saying with a pinch if salt XD I don't like humans factions as of now so I'm sure the experience is different

you forgot to add the extra hidden melee stats the AI gets in higher difficulty so the enemies greatswords are almost like fighting black orcs

Tyrion + Volkmar defeat trait would have been good for this. Starting the game with Markus Wulfhart would allow you to also get Balthasars defeat trait.
Ended up here from Legends video. Can say was not disappointed.

the setup for this video explains why i do so poorly when playing Total Warhammer
Yeah, the meta in every game is different. Total War Warhammer definitely has the worst melee infantry and cavalry in the franchise
@@gamingrambles Alright, well then, i suppose i just really have to lean into thunderers and dawi artillery.
@@andreasottohansen7338 Quarrelers can also perform very well. But Melee infantry isn't completely useless as the dawi, because they all go a shit ton of melee defence, armor and leadership. Dawi are indeed too stubborn to die. So you can build a very effective front line for your missile units and artillery. For example a very good stack in early game against the flood of greenskins is 5 warriors with shields, 10 quarellers and the rest grudge throwers and quarellers. don't underestimate grudge throwers. they can even be good in late game and they are stronger than a lot of artillery in the game. they just delete orc boyz and big uns
