This was the most helpful video for the octaves. There was no assumption made, so you started at the most basic principles, and you used diagrams to visually explain the logic behind it. The shapes are a great tool. Thank you!
I wish I would have found this fret board tutorial video first! I’ve watched a heck of a lot of them and this is the first and only one that gave me the ah ha moment...the clouds parted.....a ray of sun shone down on my guitar ....pretty sure I heard angels singing also. Thank you thank you!

I've been playing guitar for 17 years or so, and I never thought about anything as simply as you explain it. This maps everything out much more easily in my head than just remembering. It's good to mentally picture that diagram when I look down at my fretboard.
Really glad you found it helpful. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Chad

These "octave shapes" are also IMO the best place to start learning the CAGED system of navigating the fretboard, if you want to go that route: for each of the 1st position open chords C, A, G, E, D, if you look at the locations of the root notes of the chord, you'll see these shapes.
Awesome stuff! It’s all patterns, and what looks so complicated is really quite simple. Thank you
Yeah it's much easier to visualize once you break it up into patterns. Thanks! -Chad
Thank you for the videos man

Nice job! thank you!!
Thanks and you're welcome! -Chad
the issue is not memorizing and understanding notes alphabet/octave/ xxxx. It's how to train your fingers to sync with your memory so they move up and down the fret board at the same speed as your brain, in decent speed to produce a tune. Your explanation is great
Great Video bruh
Genius!
dude, thank you so much and God bless!

Totally agree with the comment below, this is the most helpful and best-explained video on octaves. The shapes and diagrams were so useful...thank you very much. Sub'd 🙂. BTW, is the free PDF still available? Thanks.
Excellent!
Thanks! -Chad
As someone who started with piano, stepping into guitar was a completely different and difficult experience, and the chart made in this video is incredibly useful to visualize the pattern between octaves for a piano player like me to find scales, thank you for this.
Awesome! Yeah visualizing stuff on the guitar can be tricky when moving from piano since you can move horizontally and vertically and you have unison notes. Glad you found it helpful. Thanks! -Chad
Very good lesson
Thanks! -Chad
Greetings from India! I rate your channel the best of it's kind.. These lessons are really helping out a lot.. Awesome work buddy.. Take care!

im a beginner and its all very complicated to me, this feels like studying math, but i have to say, its exciting and feels so worthwhile! im slowly beginning to grasp this and....its just a blessing. thank you so much for taking the time, so many of us appreciate this
Can someone please explain how I can use this In my playing
Does this help me to get the lead notes in music?
That's how I leant it. And have alway thought it was the best way .
Thank you
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Chad
u rock!
simple & effective
Thanks! -Chad
I haven’t tried it yet but this one seems to click for me.
Wow....it's like a treasure for me. I, being a piano player, have concepts about scales, chords and octaves but I was in a great confusion about finding notes without counting and calculating and moreover I found the fretboard interface little confusing. This video gave me the best live saving content. I would like to ask a question that is every guitarist memorize the notes by this process or they habituate it by practicing for years? I have relative pitch , It's gonna help me a lot.
Yeah visualizing the notes on the guitar fretboard is really tricky until you're used to it. Especially compared to the piano. Really glad the lesson helped. Not everyone learns the notes this way but it's a system I've found super helpful. Many guitarists actually don't even know the notes on the fretboard and play by shapes. This can be a huge stumbling block and something that holds them back. Thanks! -Chad
@@Moveforwardguitar Thanks a lot
Pianos have chords octaves and scales to you know?
also good octave shape 3string and 6 string, its same like 2and5 but plus 1fret
Excellente.
Thanks! -Chad
Thanks
You're welcome. Thanks for watching and commenting! -Chad

You're welcome! -Chad
Thanks and It is helpful...but I am confused:how to count Guitar octave? if I take your first example of G note how to count it's octave and how to know how many octave for G there are and how to count for it and any note? could you please explain to me?
This series will help you a lot ua-cam.com/play/PLDNPXoSAAaRJ9CoWhCyxeqmKRKvZv0iu4.html Thanks! -Chad
hi, just found your channel. as you explain the octaves going from 6th string and so forth...when you got to the first string, i thought is the first shape the same as the last 6th shape? because you said the 6th and 1st strings are the same? now i think i just confused myself, lol..
nevermind, i just rewind and realized each shape is one octave apart, the final shape is two octaves from the first shape. sorry im slow learner
🎸
That was really detailed, thank you!
I've done a video explaining the octaves with exercises & etudes, check it out if you want! :)
👍💪
how come there are no numbers by the notes to tell you what octave you're in? like F3 for example.
