Thanks for watching!
Chris
This is the first video from you I've watched. I have to say, nothing short of absolutely impressive
This philosophy of info > anchor > scaffolding is just so neat and the gold quality I wanted to find on yt.
Thank you for the advice, I will keep this one close to me and maybe, even try applying it to map out the zhongruan (not a guitar, but still has fretboard). It will be an interesting exercise to say the least - fellow string musician
Glad you enjoyed it, and so glad you happened across the channel, Mousi!
If anyone has only happened on to this channel by chance today, by viewing this lesson--and--you are looking for ways to really deepen your knowledge of music and how that all applies to the guitar, you may have just stumbled across one of the most significant teachers you will meet/find. If you are in a rush, or just casually cruising or browsing...do yourself a favor and just bookmark this lesson or the channel and come back when you have time. I'm not sure I can even explain how radically different the teaching here is and do it justice. It's nothing to do with someone that is somehow be able to magically regurgitate the same information in a way that you will understand so much as....what you've found here is the guitar study equivalent of "give a man a fish, eat for a day....teach a man to fish....". yeah. I can't explain it in words. But, bookmark, save the lesson or channel and come back when you have the time....because I do know that is an important factor. If you are ready to do some work...this could be one of those milestone moments, your playing before and after you started doing this work sorta-thing....
Thanks SO much! Can I use this comment as a testimonial?
@@curiousguitarist oh, of course, but I was just coming back to this lesson to review again...thinking I the comment still just, not worthy. Feel free to edit, use, whatever....the least I could do until I can support in a more meaningful way.
Great comment! We would love to have join the studio if ever possible. I think you would fit in splendidly 😌
@@donaldfox6976 and I would really love to join. got some things I need to take care of before I could be fully present. Sidelined from work, trying to get body fixed. Bright side= lots of practice time I'd previously only dreamed of having, so, hope I can catch up with everyone when I get all this stuff squared away.
When you arrive, you will be a much welcomed member! Chris briefly describes the Studio in the videos, but it is so much more. We become friends here and travel the journey together. We learn and explore each other‘s preferences. We share our progress, and marvel at our peers talents. Praise and encouragement is the only thing offered, and together we become better musicians. So,be well MountainGirl, and I hope to see ya soon!
Another genius lesson Chris. Whilst I do fully understand this, I could never explain it to A N Other. So, not only is the content superlative, the delivery is also important. No one does it like you. Its truly special. Thanks Chris.
Wow, Steve. I really appreciate that. Thank you.
It's so cathartic to watch your videos, even when I know the content well. Have a beautiful! 🍒
Seriously the best guitar teacher on the net.
Thanks mate, really appreciate that!
I believe the more you practice this method the better your ear gets . You can better hear other guy’s guitar playing . Play this video 3 times and then listen to the SAME music you love and you’ll HEAR so much more. Chris, you are an inspiring , unselfish super guitar player. I’m gonna use this every day. I was trying to go in this direction but I didn’t know how to conceptualize it. Thank you , Mon. You REALLY helped me ‼️No more crappin . I’ll be mappin!
Wow, that's a great comment, Chris. I'm so glad this clicked for you! Thanks for being here.
You taught me more practical information in 4 videos that I have been able to internalize watching several dozen. Now some of the others make more sense. I am BTW a very old beginner.
So happy to be helpful!
hand up .both hands up ..maps ? google maps?
,,seriously omg i am going to cry thank you. Chris hugs ❤
Hey Jen! Great to see you again!
@@curiousguitarist I have been sneaking in and 👍 your vids , trying to remember what I learned , you were so spot on. I am sure you here it a million times. but seriously Thank you. when I do remember I am like omg ,,,haha 🫶😛
@@jen8441 I’m glad you’re here, friend
just gonna take the few seconds out of my day to type this real fast.... YOU. ARE. AMAZING.
Wow, thank you Charles. I really appreciate that. Have a great day.
👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽👏🏽 as always a lesson to apply, practice and never forget. Thanks Chris!
You bet, Melvin. So glad you're here, thanks for all your support, and for all you bring to The Studio!
You are a guitar god… I am humbled in your presence. Thank so much!
I first thought wow he open for Carlos Santana and Trey Anastasio. Now I’m like “they’ve got nothing on you! “🤣
Aw geez, Scott! Thanks. I consider myself lucky to have been in a small town at the right time to take advantage of some great opportunities.
Thanks for being here and all your support.
WOW! Now I have to view all your other lessons...
Have fun and welcome aboard!
Incredibly effective lesson on fretboard mapping...you are a genius, Sir...thank you
I'd suggest you might be using that term a bit loosely, but, of course, you are welcome!
This is gold. I need to watch more of Chris’ channel.
There's a lot here! Let me know if you're looking for something specific. Welcome!
What a great channel. I love the concepts you bring and how you explain them.
Thanks, glad you’re here gc3!
Omg so eye opening!!! Thank you! Best guitar teacher on UA-cam.
Wow, thanks, Nina. I really appreciate that, and am so glad you enjoyed this.
I agree with the many. Absolutely genus lesson. I am getting them in between cooking. The notes are are so important
Hey Christopher! Hope all is well!
Always great knowledge here. Being fluent all over the fretboard is a must for anyone who seeks to master the guitar!!
Analytical, but neither boring nor too difficult. Good pacing and meter. Like watching a Bob Ross painting without falling asleep. :-) Great job again, Chris!
Oh my god that’s a good one! Thanks for the views and comment!
Thanks for the lesson, Chris ! Your very first scenario made me think that sometimes I stumble *back* into something where I'm beyond forgetting how to play it... I've moved on to forgetting that I've forgotten about it... LOL "oh yeah - that thing I learned one time...forgot about that..."
Great comment Scott! Love it.
Great lesson, Chris! The octaves exercise was one of the best exercises I ever learned for navigating the fretboard, as you say, it's the scaffolding that then helps you reach new areas where you can apply your new scale pattern or your new lick :)
Thanks Joyce, for everything you do for The Studio! I could not do it without you!
@@curiousguitarist My absolute pleasure, Chris!!
Wait! There is a Joyce in the Studio 🤔
@@donaldfox6976 //looks around//
@@donaldfox6976 curious eh?
Just wanted to say thank you for sharing all that you do with us "tubers". Your time, effort, patience, commit as well the inspiration you give... I myself greatly appreciate it. 😃👍
That means a lot to me, Danny, thank you.
Walk time! Will listen as always
This is brilliant. I've been trying to work out an holistic way of applying my learning for a few weeks now and you nailed it in this video! Thank you Chris, you're a life saver!
Glad it was helpful, Michard!
Chris.! You seem to bring out every course just when that’s what I needed..!
I’m really happy that I started following you.! Thanks much!!👍🏼❤️
You are so welcome, Joe.
Chris, that was a brilliant walk through the thinking process itself, with relevant and attainable application examples. Thank you so much.
You are SO welcome! Thanks for the views and comment!
Wow! Awesome lesson!
Thanks Chris! I've learned ALOT from Martay!! Now I'm learning from his teacher 😎
Glad to have you here Ray!
Not only is this smart but I can see - even without playing - that this is intuitive and good for my guitar brain! and I have been playing 60 years!
Ahhhh, perfect! Thanks for the comment circlemover, glad you’re here!
Great lesson. Thanks for this one!
Chris, after watching 3 of your videos this week, I had to subscribe. Your voice, teaching method and delivery is remarkable. You create a relaxing and extremely informative atmosphere, in a way I've never seen before. You are truly an amazing teacher far above many others. Thank you, from Montreal, Canada. Keep it up - great job.
Thanks so much, Brad, that means a lot to me. More videos on the way, I’m glad you’re here.
nice method and great effective fretboard mapping from you.loved to learn your lesson.thanks for it.👍
You bet!
Great lesson Chris. Really helps to tie the fretboard together!
It really does pay back a ton to spend a little practice time regularly doing stuff like this.
Another terrific lesson Chris. Thanks!
My pleasure, Kevin. Glad you enjoyed it.
Guess what we are going to practice this weekend, octaves and schaffolding using the Circle of 5ths!!! Mahalo Chris!
Mahalo, Kevin!!! Thanks for all your support!
again clear and precise thankyou
Of course Jack, glad you enjoyed it!
Another great lesson. I definitely need to spend more time working through octaves.
Octaves are huge, I use them ALL the time to get new info on the fretboard.
Thanks for your support!
Awesome lesson Chris!!!
Thank you, Andrés!
Another very interesting and informative lesson. I hope I can use this..... of course that is the question.
Of course you can! Just give it a try!
Another great lesson. TYFYS, sir.
Very welcome, Joseph!
I love this type of lesson.
Glad you like it Scott. Octaves can hold on to ANY new info.
great video! helped me a lot
That’s great, Joel. I’m glad this lesson was helpful
You are the best! Thanks
Thank you CptSpiff!
Thank you so much!
You're so welcome, Scott. And thank you too, for helping to make this all possible.
Very helpful
GreT stuff Chris 👍
Glad you enjoyed this one! Thanks for the views and comments
THIS THE WAY TO GO.
I find that as I accumulate knowledge, my ability improves incrementally. When I gain those pieces of knowledge that occasionally connect two other pieces of knowledge, that is when I make a big jump (or a bigger jump :) )
Very cool insight, John. Thanks.
Very good
Thanks
I was able learn my octaves using the cage system, which I think is just another perspective of this.
Yeah CAGED is just a way catalogue this same information.
Describing the parts of the fretboard that are unfamilar as uncharted waters with sea monster hit home for me (partially cause ive been playing valheim way more than ive been practicing music for the past few weeks )
Haha! I love it. Thanks HtN!
Man you hit the mail on the head. Just last night I was playing the Am pentatonic scale. I know all five positions and was practicing putting them together. My issue is making it sound musical. I know all the notes but just playing them doesn’t always sound good.
So glad you're enjoying this one. Try this for musicality
maybe? ua-cam.com/video/jbw1hHppKtg/v-deo.html
I usually play in the living room but sometimes I'll play in my bedroom. The other day I played at my wife's cousins house.
Hahaha! I love it! I actually believe I’ve played in the bathroom once or twice :)
Great video man. It’s almost impossible for me to remember scales and modes if I don’t know the formula. If I know there’s a half step between 3,4/7,1, I’ll remember that forever. Dorian, half step between 2,3/ 6,7. I’ve always been terrible at relying on shapes haha. I don’t know, I just can’t remember shapes for some reason but can remember formulas no problem. It’s weird.
Everyone gets this stuff in a different way, the interval method is GREAT!!!!
It seems that you are inside my mind, that's exactly how I'm doing it, questioning/doubtful am I doing this right, that note doesn't sound right, which box is this, let me get that paper out and check, hinders the flow, and obviously doesn't exactly sound like music or good music. U R The Best...thx u
You bet, Jason! This method used on any piece of info, will start to really stitch it all together for you.
"Plaza 0 double 4 double 3. ...but still I wonder what, does he look like?" 😄
...so confused...
:)
Currently I hit notes first and then figure out what it sounds like. I want to get to knowing what note I want and then just hit that note. I want to get to that point. I think this helps so thank you.
You bet!
You got that Pelham Blue p90 then! Amazing. How is it? I got the Gibson Special with p90s, it's real nice
My brother-in-law has the LP Special with P90s too. That was one of the motivations to get the SG.
So far I love it. Might be the best-playing neck in the whole bunch! I’m getting some Seymour Duncans this week to try out as the pick ups are good, but don’t seem to have quite the dynamic range that I feel they should. And the nut needs a little detailed filing as the G string is a bit squirrelly, tuning-wise.
@@curiousguitarist thanks for the reply Chris. Mine has a few imperfections that are all too common on new Gibsons. It's still an excellent guitar but I'm thinking MFDs are actually the best single coil pickups. Good luck with the Seymours, I have some SD Seth Lovers in another, amazing pickups. Lollar p90s are also outstanding
Hey Chris, would you please do a video for guys with short fingers? Please?
Let me think abut that, not sure what advice or insight I would have, but it's a good idea.
Thanks!
@@curiousguitarist Thank you, sir!
I take slightly longer (milliseconds) to think of note names between 7th and 11th frets on the D to B strings. Weird eh?
That’s not a super easy section of the fretboard. Triads help with that a lot!!
Do you have some method for blind?!
You mean playing with your eyes closed?
@@curiousguitarist I'm blind, if I close my eyes it's the same..
