Can you buy land as a farang?Does having building experience or license from the west make it easier to build? Thx Todd, cheers Ron
A foreigner CAN NOT buy land here... you have to find somebody you can trust. Not too sure about the legalities of it mate. Not sure whether you'd need to employ a Lao project manager or not. Maybe Chris Perkins can chime in... he's up with these things more than I..

Hi Guys As discussed as a Farang you cant own the land, but a long lease of up to 60 years, is easy to do. As for the building part you can basically hire in all the grunt labor you want, and have a play yourself. Any license you have is irrelevant as you are the boss. So long story short, find a trusted Lao and away you go. One last thing is with no disrespect, I would use a Vietnam crew as they work a lot harder for the same money, about $10 a day.

Laos is only beautiful because of the low population, pristine nature, and slow pace of life. The low population makes it a very quiet place to live and room to spread out. No need to worry about crazy neighbors and loud traffic.
While the land prices are very low, it's a good time to buy property there. I prefer northern Laos because of the mountains and the cooler temperature there.

Hey Ketsana.. you're not technically a foreigner, but not able to buy land either unless you become a citizen again, or like tt bb said, marry one. Or option 3, have a Lao person you trust and put it in their name... other than that, you could always long lease.
Hi and tnx for the informative video. I am in Laos now and I want to live here for a while. How can I find a place to rent in vientiane? I mean is there any real estate agency where I can go to and see houses? Any suggestions will be appreciated. tnx
Hi Todd. Unfortunately, I developed an allergy to crustaceans in adulthood....I seriously miss chowing down on some prawns...etc. I can safely have a big sniff though. Can foreigners actually own property in Laos? I have so many questions about how that works though...a foreigner buying property in a communist country & ultimately how secure that would be. Anyway, I'll just keep watching and take notes. Sorry, I keep commenting throughout the clip instead of the end. That house is a stunner! Cheers for another great episode Todd!

We would need a boat when the river floods... otherwise at the 16 min level,...WHY BUILD above the river so high... and why have concrete protection of the pillars supporting the building... with a small room to hide in when typhoons send 100mph winds happen... {Any cyclone rods used to hold the roof to the ground level for high winds?} …Looks good... but... Asbestos roofing as well...??? And termites would go under the concrete slab to get to the posts.. Asian concrete is often of poor quality and termites . . . Well...

Never seen it in NSW 😐
I don’t think it travels well, I never saw one until I moved to Qld
Hi Todd! I was born in Laos but left the country 30+ years ago. Am I consider a foreigner since I’ve been gone for that long? Does that mean I’m unable to purchase property in Laos?
If you still have a Laos citizen you can buy a land no problem but if not than you have to marriage laos people so you can buy a land
Hey Ketsana.. you're not technically a foreigner, but not able to buy land either unless you become a citizen again, or like tt bb said, marry one. Or option 3, have a Lao person you trust and put it in their name... other than that, you could always long lease.
the freshness of those shrimp is awesome😅🤣!!!!
I bought a land in vientiane and land in lpb. I am now building a house in vientiane.
Hi and tnx for the informative video. I am in Laos now and I want to live here for a while. How can I find a place to rent in vientiane? I mean is there any real estate agency where I can go to and see houses? Any suggestions will be appreciated. tnx
ok .... nice video Todd I'll quit my job in Canada and put pension money in lao
I learned mai ped in Thailand…..how do you say no heat in Lao?
No Jordo, unfortunately a foreigner CAN NOT own land mate.
No worries, Thanks mate
@@NowinLao Cheers Todd.
@@Jordy120 Unless you're married to a citizen of Laos or obtain Lao citizenship, you can own property. You have to check the local government website.
@@LaoSoftware Thanks for that. I knew this, I just had what I call a 'brain fart' in which the 2 brain cells I have left can't find each other. Thanks for the reply & have a great day.
many savory
is it like Cambodia where the only thing they do inside upstairs in traditional houses is sleep? Well, probs not the ^^only^^ but you know what I mean. 😅
Haha yeah pretty much. Could you imagine enclosing that area beside the bedroom with mostly glass (still leaving plenty of outdoor space tho) for a kitchen/living room with those views.. perfect! 👌
@@NowinLao yeah that would be bloody amazing.
Hi Todd, I am a Laotian American and plan to live in Laos and want to have a property/house in Laos with my own name. How do I do it/how do I start/ who do I talk to??
You will need to become a Lao citizen to put the property in your own name. Other than that, you can do long lease as a foreigner.
Hi, Todd & Neenee. Do they have property insurance in Laos ? Love the location where the new house is.😁
Yes they do... but most don't
Hi Todd, Do you have any idea How much US $$ to build a house in Laos?
We would need a boat when the river floods... otherwise at the 16 min level,...WHY BUILD above the river so high... and why have concrete protection of the pillars supporting the building... with a small room to hide in when typhoons send 100mph winds happen... {Any cyclone rods used to hold the roof to the ground level for high winds?} …Looks good... but... Asbestos roofing as well...??? And termites would go under the concrete slab to get to the posts.. Asian concrete is often of poor quality and termites . . . Well...
hi mate, Mt girlfriend now in Thailand with me, now she wants to go back to Laos, any quarantine for loa nationale?

You are a braver man then me , if I ate that I would do the biggest up and under I tried dead bugs in patong once mate I was heavin all day and picking them out of my teeth , I'll stick to curry prawns and rice ,
Hahaha the bugs don't taste too bad, but ya right... you're cleaning them outa ya teeth for ages!
How much is the house you're showing by the river? Billy
They're building it, not seling it. 😉
$60,000 is expensive for that plot of land in Laos.
As I said.. its the first asking price. After negotiations we got ours for about 40% of the asking price..
Lived 2 years in Laos,, you have to be married to live with a Laos lady,, severe financial consequences if you are not married, and getting married is a expensive procedure,,can take up to 2 years before you get all the official paperwork, do your homework before you commit to live in Laos,
@@tommythai4587 Thank you for the advise. I shall stick to Thailand.
I don't think 20.000 dollars ,you gonna have nice house just like this in the big cityloke vieg tianeluangphrabang. In country side ,jungle probably.😃😃😃
Hi Todd! I am interested in that house you guys looked at. Any chance it’s still available for sale? I am a Lao/American living in Tennessee and will be coming to Laos in November and would love to connect with you and Ms. Neenee. Thanks and hope to hear from you!
Which house was that Tia?
@@NowinLao the house just 20 minutes from Vientiane. The one you took the American couple from Arizona
I am just now catching up with all your recent videos and saw the house in this content/video.
@Tia Cox The house in the thumbnail of the video? (Photo advertising the video)
@@NowinLao yes, I believe so.
As a foreigner, can you buy property in Laos

Can get visa on arrival. 👍
You have to try everything at least once 🤣

Never build a house so close to a large river.
