Nice video guys, I just bought a 12x16 10oz canvas tarp from Tool Town and doing the same, my plan is to put a loop at the top for hoisting it up using at least a tri-pod outside the tipi. If not will use a pole inside. I will also add an extra flap at the door to close the door up. Cheers Fred
the tent is amazing, at 150 subs you guys should have an over night in the tree house or the OG bushcraft base, great vid the editing is geting better and better!!!!!!!!! P.S. maybe a christmas special????
Isn't it the design made by Lonnie, from Far North and Bushcraft? You made a great improvement by using a tripod instead of a central pole, I slept a couple on nights in mine and the central pole seems to be in the way.
I always enjoy the outdoors but I enjoy it more when I leave feeling like I learned something or accomplished something. So I always have a goal in mind before beginning my trek. Since you asked for video suggestions, Ive got a few that have helped me in the past.....Try to accomplish only 1 on each trip. If you finish fast, build it again. You'll become confident in your skills only after you've completed each task multiple times. CAMP PROJECTS... 1.) Fire blower 2.) Fire bow (Bow drill) 3.) Weighted pump drill 4.) Wooden spoon 5.) Bark bowl 6.) Staff sling 7.) Practice making deadfall traps (Figure 4 and Pyute kind of suck and take a long time to make. Look for instructions on the "Sam Sea / Sam Sau" deadfall. They use it in Thailand a lot. You can make 10 very quickly. 8.) Practice active spring snares 9.) Practice passive snares 10.) Make a meal with at least 1 wild edible ingredient.
I am making a hot tent tipi--using your design. (You guys are a hoot.) Rather than cut the door/gap out, I'll either cut up the center or cut along only 1 of the diagonals. For sealing the door--this will give overlap and additional options or maybe create an entry-way that extends out (with guy lines) that could still block wind even with the "door" open. Might create possibility for entrance canopy--but I haven't thought that through. For people making different size cones (tipis) there's a site called BRICKLAYER that you enter data (height, base) and it diagrams a pattern how big a tarp, the slant (length of poles needed) and can put evenly-spaced holes around edge. Would like a video specifically of how you made your stove jack. ~ Even if you don't have footage, a walk-thru/talk-thru of the materials you used and your process. Looks like your tarp is about a 9mil (by the amount of light coming in.) I'm going with thicker--because I'm not as hot-blooded as you all. lol. I'll want to put in a couple windows--which is a another reason I'm interested in your stove jack process. Your videos are fun to watch--I've watched a lot of them, and some more than once!
@@bushbrosoutdoors2612 Making the tarp from canvas isn't going to keep the heat in any better. It will help with condensation as the canvas material breathes. What will help is to make a liner for the tipi as that will give you a small air space between the layers and that acts as insulation. One other tip is if you use painters drop cloths for your canvas, be sure to wash them on hot water to shrink them and tighten up the weave. CamperChristina has done a series of youtube video on making DIY hot tents from painters drop cloths. Check them out.
Awesome innovation guys, looks great and works GREAT! Keep up the good work and you are on your way to becoming Master Bushcraftmen. Thanks for sharing. Atb Von
Instead of cutting the v out. For the door way I suggest you should made 1 cut from center pin to center pin for the door way. By doing this your tent will have flaps that will over lap make door way more water proof. But I like the pole design with that small hole at the top I think it be possible to build a small fire in the center of the tipi. To help smoke draft better a inside wall about 4 foot high tied (allow 4-6 inches between the walls. ) to the 4 poles n staked down close to the ground to avoid air come n into the inter chamber. Leave outer tarp a few inches of the ground so air can enter tipi and draft the smoke out the top opening. Check out Survival Lilly channel. Smoke free tepee : if you do these 2 things
Leaving the extra material is a good idea and it work. We made a new tent last year and did just that. ua-cam.com/video/JdUVwr_Ms1g/v-deo.html. We have recently had some problems with ventilation in the tent, as it is hard to keep a solid fire going in such an enclosed space. We have tried leaving the door open, but it’s hard to keep the heat of the stove in the tent. We appreciate your ideas as we are still trying to perfect the diy hot tent. Thanks for watching
Nice job gentlemen ! Explained and executed very well . Suggestions ? Hmmmmm.... ..... check out Lonnie @ "Far North Bushcraft" here on YT. He has a version of this too. He has been around here forever . Some guys border the circumference edge and door edges. with Gorilla Tape on the interior & exterior. You might try 6 - 8 poles . You could probably fashion a door flap from your scraps and tape it to the entrance to seal out the weather and retain warmth.
Great idea and video but you left me hanging at the end???? How bout staying overnight and putting a dang wood stove in that sucker and cooking some food . Seriously tho I enjoy watching your channel
Thanks Brian! We do have a video of us staying the night in it with a wood stove on our channel. Still, you have a point... we did leave you hanging. We are going to remake the hot tent out of canvas this winter, so there will be more hot tent videos to come. Thanks for watching!
This is a copy of Lonnie's design from Far North Bush Craft. They didn't even bother giving his channel a shout out or telling where they got the design. They acted like it was their genius idea and are taking credit for it. Way to make a UA-cam channel that copies other UA-cam channels.
Good looking tipi guys. I'll bet you are going to have some great adventures in that.
Thanks man, we did.
Another great video, nice job! That tipi was huge! For 25$ you can't beat that. Keep up the awesome work!

Yes it is.
Then you should have given Lonnie credit. Hard thumbs down!
What a banger 👏👏👏

Great job guys, what’s, the length of your poles?
I believe they are 6 feet! Maybe 8.
Great Video.greetings from germany
nice job you guys, but wheres the hot part?
I have a burning desire to make one of these out of canvas
We are going to do the same. The tarp doesn’t keep in the heat very well and has gotten many holes in it. Thanks for watching!

Very nice. How long were the poles? Looking forward to seeing future videos with a fire inside
9 feet
Thank you. I've been wanting to do this for a longtime. I want to silicone in window screen and use the excess tarp as window covering
Thanks boys!!
All I want for Christmas is Hugh
What size tarp did you use
20 by 16 ft!
How did you put the hole in it?
A kit that we bought at Home Depot.
One change I'd make is to have the door zip up or be more secure but that's just me.
We will be making that change for this winter. Thanks for watching!
Stove jack , ammo can Stove n a few vents at the peak
Was that a wrestling mat? I need more information boy's. Who's the wrestler.
