Back when this car came out around the fall of 2006. 500 horsepower was a huge deal. Nobody saw that kind of horsepower from a muscle car. The mustang gt finally reached the 300 horsepower threshold just a year prior. And all cobras before only had a few more horsepower than the mustang gt. It was just mind boggling to see a mustang with Ferrari horsepower figures. Seriously the last 3 decades before that mustang gts and cobras has 200 hp 250 for years. Nowadays it’s not a big deal. I mean camrys have 300 hp. I’m serious. When we saw 500 horsepower it blew everyone away.
Ironically....it was Carroll Shelby who designed the original lightweight & responsive ‘67 Fastback GT350 2-seater + roll cage + aluminum 289/4spd for TRANS AM style racing....NOT drag racing....NOT circle track racing....A Shelby Mustang should be right at home on that parkway road going @ 100-120mph
“Oh no! It doesn’t ride like a Cadillac! And, the road noise is terrible! And, the clutch is stiff! And, there’s plastic in the cockpit! And…”. Who are these people? Wait… I don’t want to know…
I want a car that sounds like that 😍😍 I’d buy one now if I had the money as they now make rhd ones only problem is the cost of running a v8 in England!!!
Second problem after fuel costs: Weighs more than two moons of Saturn and bigger than a double Decker bus that forgot its diet.. Buy a car for the sound alone :TVR, and the big bonus they drive properly, would spank that GT 500 in any drag race (even a Chimaera), while only weighing 1100kgs.. Job done..
@@ranware2779 everyone thinks because it is a 5.8 and has 662 hp stock its somehow light years ahead of past versions and that isnt the case...youre literally a blower head unit swap away from 13-14 power levels (even modded 13-14s) for less money and arguably more dependable (5.4 seems to take abuse a tad better than the 5.8 and isnt nearly as expensive to replace should something happen to the block itself). I like all the 5.4s myself but the 11-12 is ideal w the aluminum block and knock sensors/wideband stock.
There were 2 other GT500's after this one. The one in the video is a 2007-2009 model, then there was the 2010-2012 model and the 2013-2014 model. Each with more power than the last. The 2014 still had a live rear axle as well. EDIT: The 5.4 ain't no small block lol. The engine is massive. EDIT #2: These were tested at 0-60 in 4.3 seconds and low 12's in the 1/4 at around 115ish mph.
The 07-09 had iron block...2010 also had iron block but came with a better intake and a better stock tune bringing it from 500 to 540 horses...in 2011 they got an aluminum block and remained unchanged outside of getting EPSA (electric power steering assist) which supposedly frees up a little power and is the reason for the 10 hp bump to 550 hp. The only reason these make more is better stock tune and intake, once both cars arw running the same aftermarket intake and tuning they put down basically the same power. The 13-14 does have a larger 5.8 (which is just a factory modded version of the 5.4) but the main thing that gives them more power is the 2.3 tvs blower they come with. A bolt on 13-14 can make over 700 to the wheels on pump gas because of that better blower, if you swap that blower on a 07-09 with full bolt ons as well it too can be above 700 on pump gas so the larger displacement is kind of a wash and doesn't mean a whole lot because forced induction is involved. If they were na the extra displacement would matter alot more. Ive seen ported trinity blowers for under 2k you can put one of these on an early gt500 and be 700+ rwhp fairly cheaply considering the price of the car to begin with. Moral of the story is the later cars have more power stock but all of them are pretty similar power wise once theyre all sporting the same blower and supporting mods. You get more of a jump in performance with aftermarket mods with the early cars because they were more restricted from the factory. Just look at the stock air intake on them lol. Big ol panel filter with a small ass tube. Also another thing is the 5.4 is most definately a small block all the modular engines, and the coyote based engines are all small blocks. The blocks themselves arent that big the engine is huge because they have really wide dual overhead cam style heads. Ford hasnt put a big block in anything performance oriented in a very very long time prob since the 60s or early 70s. They did a boss 429 in 1994 with a big block engine but it wasnt a production car. What is good about the early gt500s isnt what they do stock its what they can do with minor mods. You can be at the power levels the later cars have only havingba few grand in mods total and im including the price of a used ported trinity blower. Considering you can get these 20 grand cheaper than 13-14 cars i say that is a bargain.

Okay, this is a bit off the subject but I'll post this here because at least it pertains to LHD cars: as an American (who has driven in the UK), I've always wondered if right-handed people (and I can't/won't assume you are one) there in the UK who have experienced a LHD car don't feel that having the car's gear change at their right hand instead of their left hand isn't simply more natural. The later ones being higher hp drove these prices down but what ppl dont realize is theyre very similar for the most part the biggest difference is intake/tune changes on the 10-12 and the 13-14, although it does have little more displacement it dont seem to make much difference once both cars are running the same blower, which the 13-14 car has 662 hp stock as opposed to 500 like these due to that better blower mostly.
