Probably the extent of clutter SG sees in Karnataka politics is just about familiarity, for a person who's used to seeing these caste groups, and schedules , it's just another list. UP caste groups mentioned in earlier CTC's feel much more complicated than this.

When Veerendra Patil was sacked unceremoniously by Rajiv Gandhi, I was a cameraman working with DD at Bangalore. Our correspondent Nandakumar and I went to Patil's residence for a press conference where a paralysed CM declared that he will not step down. We were back to DD office by 8 pm and Nandu wanted to put this on feed so that Delhi will carry it in the national news starting at 8.30pm. However, DD is dictated by other considerations and the valuable footage was not used.

I think in this episode SG Sir should also pay some attention to the peculiarity of the regions of KN. A lot of the voting patterns here are still mired in how the state was formed from different pre-independence regions. Parts of current KN was formed from the old Madras Presidency, and others from the Nizam's territories and yet more from the Mysore princely state. A lot of the voting even today reflects those earlier divisions. We observe similar patterns in Maharashtra too.

The vote share -> seat INC bias comes from the fact that there are some 3-way seats (INC vs BJP vs JD(S)) but a lot of (INC vs BJP) seats and lots of (INC vs JD(S)) seats and very little (BJP vs JD(S)) seats. So it is the BJP vote that is "concentrated" which helped it win more seats than INC even with a lower vote share since there are a lot of seats (INS vs JD(S)) (mostly in the Mysore region) where the BJP vote share is very small

Thats true for every state as someone who has seen Chandigarh, Punjab, Haryana and now living in Maharashtra. In my experience Chandigarh bureaucracy was far superior to democracy in Pune and elsewhere.
BJP has been the only party building infrastructure. It doesn't matter what caste you come from when you see development happening after decades of Congress rule. People will vote for Modi and not Rahul or anymore Gandhis.

2. It's not about Gandhi in Karnataka, I doubt anyone cares about RG here. It's about the local force, Siddaramaiah, and he's got the support of the people. Yediyurappa also had a lot of support, but BJP high command were arrogant to think they could remove him. People can see quite clearly understand that Modi and Shah only come down to give speeches in Karnataka 1 month before elections. The 3 years before, they've achieved very little despite having "double engine sarkaar", they've taken 40% commission, and keep imposing hindi.

I must say that for a North Indian, you have done a good job of understanding the Karnataka caste politics. Congratulations! I would suggest that if you have any Kannadiga on your staff, you have to take that person's help to come to grips with pronunciation of Kannada names.
In Karnataka, caste percentages are small. So pleasing just one or two castes won't do. Large number of other minor castes and tribes have to be pleased by the political parties. Congress is enraged because Bommai government did something which Congress government could not do - increase reservation for Vokkaligas, and give reservation to Panchamasali lingayats. For BJP's victory they matter more than Banjaras. Voters outside the reservation categories, especially the Brahmins, do not count electorally. It is as if they are disenfranchised.
Why Siddaramaiah lost? Is a big gloss over in itself. The people must know how to lose a gift by serious Mis-steps.

Because of geography, North Karnataka is mostly Lingayat & Vokkaligas don't go beyond Mandya/Mysore belt in South Karnataka, coastal Karnataka is a whole different thing by itself it neither has significant lingayat population nor Vokkaliga population. This cultural, caste & geographical divisions make it difficult for any sort of assimilation of votes.
Asking for a CTC on Maharashtra social politics. It has crazy amount of clutter and a lot of it relates to the history of how Maharashtra was formed . Language, caste, religions dynamics change so rapidly between districts it might make your head spin. But if you look closely, it all makes sense(kindof). Hopefully SG is able to look at it sometime on CTC.
Finally, sirji, looks like you have realized south politics is as fascinating as north. I'm happy to see a north India-focused media group is finally taking note of the south.
I would appreciate it if you could dive deeper into other states around as well, they are equally as fascinating as Karnataka if not more.

I'm a strong supporter of BJP, but I can assure you BJP will not come to power in Telangana. There is no CM candidate face for BJP and all leader have their own internal issues. Until last year we had many hopes that BJP will come to power but recently Congress is picking up pace. BJP and Congresss will be fighting for the main opposition seat and TRS will win again for the 3rd time. This analysis is based on today's trend. Not sure if this will change by the time of election which are schedule to happen at the end of this year.

As a doctor in Rajasthan, RTH bill is being forced on us. As you say, don't fix what ain't broken, state govt is trying to fix something that was working perfectly fine. We did a huge march in Jaipur against it, and resident doctors are being arm twisted into submission. Could you make a CTC on it?

I'm not sure about the "vs" implication in your statement. BJP has been trying hard to capture the Vokkaliga territory. Even the INC strategy has been similar, i.e., focusing on a Vokkaliga+Lingayat consolidation. In fact, I fear the extensive focus on these two castes may actually backfire. BJP's candidate list will be interesting.

You should also point out that BJP never beat the INC in terms of vote share ever in any Karnataka assembly election even if in 2004 2008 and 2018 BJP beat INC in terms of seats won
That's because Congress also gets significant vote share in the old Mysore region where the competition is between Congress and JDS, there's no BJP. So, Congress is all over Karnataka, gets some votes everywhere even if their candidates don't win, they beat BJP in terms of vote share.

In TN Caste can not be eliminated as it contributes to economy despite political rhetorics ; one caste control retail business ; Another one are entrepreneurs; Some castes are agriculturalists and control land ; While one caste is reduced to labours ( in general ) , one caste left the State for greener pastures ; For elections Candidates are nominated by parties purely on Castes which sustain the system ; Tamil Nadu politics totally revolve around deep rooted caste system and corruption, Commission and Collection

I am from karnataka ur making factual mistakes
1. Bommai is also selected by yediyurappa.
2. Bommai also obeys yediyurappas orders. And yediyurappa has the same power.
3. Reddy when removed from party on corruption charges he tried to join but bjp was not interested but his friend sriramalu from ST community joined party with yediyurappa only and became minister in present government.

Analysis very similar to ignorant governments in Bengaluru which focuses mainly on Bengaluru and old Mysuru region. Costal Karnataka has different factors compared to Mysuru, North and other regions of Karnataka. In fact Caste & religion still influence the results in different proportions.
