Nice review. It's an excellent phone. I couldn't be more satisfied with it. I did update it to pie and I have to say Oreo us way better IMO, faster and better battery life. So I flashed it back to Oreo, unlocked the bootloader, rooted it and installed magisk with xperifix, then installed substratum with swift black theme, installed root volume mixer to increase the headphone output as I was never satisfied with the default volume output, installed viper4android to beef up the bass frequencies, enabled developer mode and adjusted all transitions to X .5 and finally, I edited the hosts file to block ads in browsers. In this state, the xz1c is absolutely perfect, black Gmail, Instagram, UA-cam vanced, black everything nearly, with fat sound. I can even use open camera and plug in an external mic or a mono audio signal straight into the headphone jack as alternative to the built in mics when shooting video. This thing is waterproof too. I love it.

Got the xz1c a few months ago. While I love it, sadly I couldn't get the black one as they were sold out in the end sale. You're right, the color absolutely affects the whole design.
SONY had and still having good phones. True, they have they own philosophy in mobile world, but phones are great! If you analize that company, they had no issues with their products. Like Note 7. They were first to implement water resist as normal, stereo speakers... SONY is big.
I have it , I guess there will never be other devices like that.One of the bad things I still can not understand this phone have is why it has no night mode and why Sony didn’t add it with some update....kinda a basic function all phones have ..apart that it’s definitely a unique phone
@BuildersM8 The only thing that I would like the xz2c to have is the position of the fingerprint sensor, of everything else I like more the xz2c than the xz1c, screen, rounded edges etc. PS: The headphone jack is not a big deal for me, i use i10 tws on my smartphone. 😆
I had one and sold it because of 32gb of internal memory. The downside of this smartphone is the square grip that gets uncomfortable in the hand. I'm going to buy the XZ2C because of 64gb and the ergonomics that got better from what I see reviews on UA-cam. Even though I lose a little battery compared to the XZ1C I will have a bigger screen and even more compact than an iPhone 8. The Sony Xperia Xperia 10 did not convince me.
Got my xz1c almost a year ago and so far it's my favourite phone! I must say though it's not always smooth, sometimes it does play some tricks on me, it likes to freeze but it doesn't happen that often (happened on Oreo and now sometimes on pie). Google pay doesn't work for some reason the terminal reads the chip then asks me to download Google pay and when I get there it says that this app is not available for my device..crazy.. The battery life is very good, I do get 4 hours SOT and then I still have 30-40% left. As mentioned in the video the phone drains when just on standby, I mean it could lose less battery while not in use but since it gets me wonderfully thu the day from 8 till 24 I don't care. What can really drain the battery fast is video chatting. The camera is average (comparing with my husband's pixel 2...pixel is way better) But it's cool to have a wide angle. I dropped my phone like 3 times and it survived..I don't have any cases just a screen protector. I wish Sony made xz1c special edition with 128 GB ROM and a better camera) it's an amazing design and fits my hands

Sony = biggest idiot as it ditched it's proper compacts. The xz2c is NOT compact. The already mediocre camera on sony was a compromise that buyers made peace with. The high pricing and costly after sales again was something ridiculous. The fans still showed faith and sony leeched em off!

So I have both the xz1 and xz1 compact. Both with Pie. You didn't like the camera and audio on the xz1 but you like it more on the xz1 compact? I feel the camera is the same with the selfie camera on the xz1 actually a little better. I also have no issues with audio on both phones. I'm using high res audio and studio grade headphones for both phones and both sound pretty damn good for relatively cheap phones. Of course they're not top audio devices but imo they both do well. Thoughts?

I'll keep my Xiaomi Note 8 for photos, and I'll be using the XZ1 like a regular smartphone. Thanks for this review, do you know what the most recent update is for this one (I heard about Android 11 on it, but there is no video), and is it working fine with, or could I have to keep it in the factory firmware to avoid problems (like on the Nexus 4 which became useless with its last update ...)
insane video, youve got great knowledge and you let know every detail like the equalizer being very hidden back in the menu its very relatable using a X compact, im looking to jump over to the xz1 compact and this video its awesome, i do have a question. do both the speakers sound the same?? because on my x compact the top one sounds way brighter and the bottom one boomy and not as detailed. also how does the xz1 3.5mm amp sounds like compared to the x compact or an Iphone for that matter. or the mic quality?

Not even close. The display is very difficult to look at (low res, ips, and 60fps). The camera is a mess in low light compared to modern phones. Battery life is great and the performance is solid, but most new games won't run on SD835. I'd suggest going for a Poco F3 for cameras, performance, and display. If you're looking for something small, I can't really suggest anything in the price range.
I'm considering ditching these bigger modern phones and going for a compact one. They're almost obsolete in terms of manufacturing nowadays but there's basically an upside to it - older means cheaper.

So I'll be selling my S10 for $520. Pocket $200 and get a $300 phone. I am considering the xz2 or xz1. In 2019 is the xz1 that good? How's the battery? Cause that's my main issue with the S10
I've had slight ram management issues with XZ2, but other than that I am still using it as my main phone. I haven't touched the XZ1 for a year now, but it still should be a good phone. Battery life is great on both phones.
I'm getting one this week! Already using the normal XZ1 for a year and love that as well, but just need to have this for occasions where I want a smaller phone that fits in my pocket. The Xperia 5 is just too tall for me unfortunately.
@@yashdas370 I got it through some dealer in the Netherlands who got a batch from Sony, apparently they were used as demo's or something, but it was in mint condition so I went for it and no regrets! Works perfect and is so pleasant to use!
Sometimes I get annoying ass glitches like the earphone stopped working for a month and now nothing is wrong for the past month, and sometimes it registers multiple taps on one touch which I maybe fixed officially now by calibrating the screen with a special app
