    Great review. I have had the Montolit for over a year and you are pretty spot on. It's a fantastic cutter, with a few minor nits. One thing I'll do is put a sponge under the support bar if doing larger tile. It seems to give the support bar a bit less flex so you can control your cut more.

    Thank you sir!! I have the 36” Sigma on its way to my local Dal. We’re doing some 31.5” square tiles, hoping I’ll only need the wet saw or grinder for my door and corner cut outs.

    I have 2 siggys and a monty and both are great but I agree that if I only could have one it would be the sigma. My sigmas are both pull handles which I always have preferred as I grew up with the superior line of tile cutters and cutting mark to mark I find it more difficult to see with the Monty

    Great comparison from an actual tile guy! I bought the montolit last year. It's a great cutter, and the stop is my favorite option also. We do alot of plank tile and it rips as small as 3/4" on a 36" plank! However, the guide bar on the left side broke in half, so they are cheap metal guides. Overall the Montolit is a great cutter for pros!

    Thanks for taking the time to do this video. I am a carpenter by trade and I have just gotten 10 metres of smart looking porcelain to do my bathroom . The tile is made in Saudi Arabia - the last time I was in Saudi - the only thing it was good for , were car crashes and crude . Credit to the Saudi's for diversifying. The old boy who sold me the tile told me that it can't be cut with a score and snap - after I had paid for it. . The young man at another store assures me that porcelain can be scored and snapped - Duh like who is telling the truth ? My girls and my wife are telling me just to take it back and get some easy ceramic . What - like that cheap fake travatine that I did the shower in ?. I wont be taking the tile back - as if it was a dress that doesn't fit . I really dont want to hire a cumbersome /expensive/noisy/wet tile saw.
    I am looking to invest in a serious score and snap. This video is helping me with my choice.
    I really appreciate well engineered tools - be it a hand tool or powered , but try explaining the concept of a decent tool to your wife !!
    I

      There is a learning curve to both of these cutters but once you become familiar with how to run them either of these cutters should work. there are tile that do not cut consistently this is due to poor manufacturing controls during the firing process, they get internal stresses which cause mischief much like wood that goes wonkey after you cut it. So with an unknown make of tile I cannot offer assurance that It will do perfect, but I will say it is very likely these will do a great job. I know it sounds like a non-answer but I do not want to lead you astray.

    The accuracy on the measurement bar on the montolit is amazing. It’s dead on the money which is awesome because so many times these things are not, like the scale on my dewalt saw is over a 1/16 off. Thanks for the review!

    Very important point made here in the video.the Monty's weakness is the bar. IV had mine bend either by tripping over it on the ground or having it in the back of my truck,where it either fell or had something fall on it.my point being that it could be constructed of a stronger metal.but overall after 5 years of use it's a good nachine

      Stephen O Neill do you think the sigma or any of the other single bar cutters are different in this regard? (Serious question) I did bend my 25” Monty, had a pallet of tile shift, was able to fix it. My larger monty has a much heavier bar.

    I'm happy you uploaded this mate. I'm currently right in the middle of a tiling course, the tutor has 1 sigma and multiple genesis dual rails - favouring the genesis, all pupils use them also. However I pulled the sigma out today for the first time, having used the dual rail up until now to see which one I prefer and have to say I like the sigma, although the pull handle will take some getting used to. It feels solid & more accurate. I may be purchasing one myself in the near future. What is your opinion on the dual rail style cutters? Cheers.

    • @TileNation
      @TileNation  5 років тому +1

      The pull Sigmas have a different feel than these, Push cutters and I would recommend these. I have not had the opportunity to use the dual rail cutter you mention so I cannot comment directly to it. If you intend to make tile a trade either of these two cutters (they are the top shelf offering for their maker) will be money well spent. Hope that helps.

    • @mr.wizeguy8995
      @mr.wizeguy8995 5 років тому +2

      Don't buy dual rail like Rubi those rails flex too much when snapping and that's why it much harder to get clean snap especially when slim cuts.
      I have Montolit, it has all features i like, easy to setup and set aside, lubrication for cutting wheel which increases wheel longevity and scoring, no need to set for different tile thickness, that adjustable stop block which can be turned away, only downside is some measurement is harder to read but is use metric scale so it doesn't bother so much.

    Hi! I own Monty 36 push and Monty 24 pull with as well accessories like baseboard stop and mosakit. Push version is great for left handed tilers, pull version is ok, but way inferior to Sigma same version (great for scoring but pain to break). Push version witch is the newer model has a big problem: doing out of square cuts, it's pain to see the marks and some tiles don't break as it should (yeah, I know...there's tones of tutorials of how to cut this type of tile or the other, with self adjustable handle is all about the pressure you put in, but after a day of troweling floors you don't have the same sensitivity in your arm and then is when it cuts in curves). Monty is way to much advertising (tons and tons of videos). Sigma don't need that. As a matter of fact don't even have videos on all their products (looking to buy 3E4M and I was curios about the front measure Art 90E4...no videos on internet, also I own Sigma's washboy mop version...far superior to Rainmondi's Pedalo). I never owned a Max version, but I learned alot from your videos and I'll go for 1 or 2 because I was very pleased with pull versions, btw you can turn the handle around if want to push against bar (seen this in many videos), but is better the way you have it now. Cool video, thanks for showing! Much appreciated

    Comparison between a ferrari and a suzuki jimmy . Montolit copied the Sigma but for patent reasons had to make it different in at least 7 points .good effort but no comparison at all .If you want to cut muliple tiles same size with sigma you can as well, (you didn't show that option.) Montolite is good for amatuers .Sigma is for Pro tiling.

      you cannot push that handle to make a cut, so if you flipped handle the measure bar would be away from you at the top and the measurements on the bar would be upside-down . At least on my 3d art 36 you would have to buy new measure sticker and reverse them . Plus imo you always cut in the direction in which the tile is being pushed to the bar or pulled to the bar....

      i stand corrected, i thought his sigma was the pull version handle but it is the max handle with the springs on the side. it threw me off because the bar was set up towards him and usually with the push versions the bar is at the top. i have been going back and forth with other videos that were definitely pull handles and people were commenting that they can be push also, which a regular pull handle sigma cannot be used as a push, only the max and klick klock, so my bad. i have been watching these vids because i do like a push handle which i have on my monty and its hard to really see the marks compared to my pull sigma. i would like to buy a push handle for my sigma but wonder how easy it is to see marks compared to the pull
