Love your video. But i want to correct your comment on 2:40 perhaps saying prawn noodle use bigger prawn in the late 80s and 90s. (The reason of using smaller prawn not freshwater, could be that it has a sweeter taste. That is why Sambal Chilli likes to use those prawn. Love the taste of those traditional prawn noodle then. You also see that in Hokkien mee.) But in the late 70s or early 80s, my dad brought me to a prawn noodle store that is beside or close to KK Hospital. You have to ask people that have gone to KK Children Hospital or work there. You have to research that a little where this prawn noodle is or where they relocated. That was the first time I saw prawn noodle with bigger prawn, that you pay extra. At that time prawn noodle are cheap hawker food, this store sold bigger prawn and cost more. I remembered seeing the bigger prawn displayed vividly it was before my Pre-U and army.

Hi, thanks for sharing! Maybe I should adjust my comment to say that maybe this stall popularised jumbo prawns in prawn mee then haha. Don’t mind, I pin your comment so that it gives the vlog a bit more context!

@@GregoryLeow no worries... maybe they started the trend but first stall i saw was the KK Hospital store with the prawn noodle. I think ask anyone that visited that place in the 70s or 80s for routine visit might tell you. I visited the hand made muah chee store at Toa Payoh after watching your video I think that used to be at the Simon Rd wet market. Had a fun 5 minute conversation of old time sake of that store. The owner was surprised I remembered the old Simon Rd store. Used to visit when I was doing my national service on my way back.

I think I found the place... it could be Wah Kee Prawn Noodle. Since it looks right with the full prawn - not split. And I remember the price in the late 70s. I read the comments about that it isn't as good as the father or grandfather who ran it previously. Long history - 70 years.

Love your videos mate. Im in Sydney Australia and while we have a decent number Malaysian restaurants with Prawn noodles it probably not as good as Penang or Singapore but costs $17 for a large portion but tiny prawns. This is my top 5 favourite dishes and your videos creating this itch to fly to SG to try the places you recommend

I miss Singapore hawker foods. I might like to try the ‘dry’ prawn noodles instead and have the pork ribs and pork tail on the side without the soup in it. I might want to drink the soup separately from the pig tail and pork rib. If / when COVID-19 is gone, I would like to revisit Singapore 🇸🇬.

East treasure Dong Bao at Joo chiat is also good. Considered cheap with the atmosphere and staff are polite.
One prawn co is nice but overly expensive. Unless crazy rich asians then go eat at $18ea. Portion is small. Went during soft launch price was like $8-$9. After that when I went back become $18 😂 was too hungry so no choice eat at $18 and will never be back.
Geylang prawn noodle along Paya Lebar is good as well. Well priced and good portion. Problem is parking during peak hours.
