  • Please join Nora Betyousef Lacey, the founder and Executive Director of AAI in part 2 of Assyrian New Year Special episode of AAI@home. Today is April 1st, or for us Assyrians, Kha B Nessan, which is Assyrian New Year 6771. Today is also the four year anniversary of the Assyrian Arts Institute. AAI was inaugurated in 2017 with the unveiling of the Assyrian Peace Monument, Shlama, in the city of Los Altos, California.
As Assyrians are celebrating 6771 years of civilization and history, we are undergoing many challenges as our existence is questioned and our heritage is being attacked in the homeland. Now, more than ever, it is important for our fellow Assyrians to become more visible and prominent; to communicate, educate, and influence, in order to gain the support and protection from the global community.
The Assyrian Arts Institute has been established to make Assyrian causes visible through arts. Art is the human emotion of the Assyrian artist and through universal language of arts, global audiences can see the world through the eyes of an Assyrian without communication barriers. We need to show continuity, and demand that our Assyrian antiquities, national treasures, and heritage sites be protected and preserved, so that our contributions are acknowledged, appreciated, and celebrated.
As we wish all Assyrians a safe, healthy, and happy Kha B Nissan, please join AAI Board, staff, volunteers, and artistic family in celebration of the Assyrian New Year with an Assyrian dance that AAI sponsored for UNESCO’s 50th Dance Congress, which was performed on July 5th, 2017 in Athens Greece.
This episode of AAI@home is sponsored by Roshel Aghassi.
