Rare opportunity to own a lovely PV544 Sport that's ready to enjoy. Be sure to check out all 330 photos on our website! This special California Volvo was purchased new from Continental Volvo in Oakland California finished in Slate Blue.
This is an attractive, nicely restored 1964 Volvo PV544 Sport for sale. This special example was purchased by its previous, enthusiast owner in Redwood City, California, and sent to Competition Motors in Groveland, California for its restoration.
It was completed in 2001 and immediately began to rack up awards, 1st and 3rd place at the West Coast Meet in Sedona 2001 & 2002, 3rd Place at the West Coast Nationals in Solvang 2002, 1st place at the Carlsen Volvo Show in Palo Alto in 2003 and again in 2005, 2nd Place at Kelseyville 2004 and 1st Place in Davis, CA 2005.
The interior shows well with little use and has aged gracefully with rebuilt/reupholstered seating, beautiful dash pad, door cards, panels, headliner, and rubber matting throughout. Most of the lower/painted dash area appears original and well-preserved. The trunk is in good shape with no rust or issues, and the spare tire and rubber mat are present.
The exterior shows well, the paint is shiny and the body is straight with no rust and excellent alignments. The glass and rubber are in good condition and the brightwork complete but showing some expected patina after 20 years. Body-colored 15″ steel wheels are fitted with chrome trim rings with Volvo hubcaps and a newer set of 165R-15 BF Goodrich whitewalls with over 95% tread remaining.
The later B18 5-bearing engine was recently tuned. It starts easily; runs smoothly and quietly with no smoke or issues. It is equipped with dual SU carburetors and looks to have been out of the car when painted and presumably renewed along with all of its ancillaries at that time. The braking, suspension, and shifting all feel tight and responsive making the car wonderful to drive around town and on the highway.

this was the car I restored many years ago for my friend in San Francisco. I got it back to sort it out after sitting for 10 years or so in his garage not being able to drive it because of blindness , Was able to sell it for him. A real nice car. It won its class at a Volvo meet one year.

My late brother own a pretty one and used it to go everywhere before he went to Vietnam and when he came back and recovered from his wounds which took about a year. He would drive from Ct to Boston Ma every weekend to see his GF. That car was involved in a bad accident and he was able to drive it for a few more years then he purchased a new one. That was the only car he would own for his entire life right up to the day he passed away. I can't recall his last one. It was maroon and had some nice bumpers black with chrome. He had the last one restored and it was a good car for him and his family. My nephew has it in his garage and will not sell it and all he does is take it to car shows when he has time. I am going to forward this video to him so he could see why his dad loved Volvo's

I had the twin of the car in the video - same model, same year, same colour. 1964-68, in Nova Scotia.

I had this exact model and color (but people called it the gray rat). It ran like a dream. One of my favorite cars I have ever had. The engine ran perfect and smooth, never failed to start, climbed a mountain road with total ease, purred like a kitten. I often think about this car.

Always liked this model. Reminds me of a '48 Ford, only a lot smaller.

@@throughmyeyes9940 But the 48 Ford had a V8 engine, column gear shift, bench seats, and the rear passenger windows opened.

Where is the little chain you pull to raise/lower the window shade in front of the radiator. Until it walrmed up on winter days.

I noticed - the driver didn't wear it! The business end of it was hanging up by his left ear, on the doorside pillar.
