Another amazing time capsule has found it's way to Left Coast Classics! This well preserved, well maintained 1950 Desoto Custom has only 5,800 original actual miles! Having been driven under 100 miles per year on average, this one truly takes you back in time with so much originality. As you might imagine, its back-story is an interesting one.
Read the controversial story at the link below.
This treasured preservation car is a very special one indeed and begs for its next owner to carry on with its preservation to assure it's continuing survival.
When you open the door you are overwhelmed by the newness of its original interior. The scent of mohair and original wool carpeting and seat fabric is intoxicating, unlike any new replacement interior could omit.
Under the hood it is equally well-preserved, still sporting the original gray paint on the block with super clean firewall still showing grease pencil and "OK" stamps right from the factory. The car starts; runs and drives beautifully with no issues. The undercarriage is amazingly tidy and looks nearly new.
The trim, chrome, lenses, bezels, knobs are all amazingly well preserved. The car was originally purchased with radio-delete. A factory radio was sourced and is included with the car along with an antenna and original speaker. All of the options and accessories are in working order. The trunk is well preserved as well, still sporting it's original spare, jack, chock and ornate trunk mat from the factory.
The body and paint are also very well preserved with a bit of expected patina. The chrome, trim, glass and lenses are original along with the original lacquer paint which has had some touch-up here and there over the years but has remained largely untouched.

Hes messing it up with the magnet!
@@malikaihoon7337 AMEN!!!
when i was 18 i had a 50 desoto dark blue.good car.loved it
im 86 now,wish i had it back.
Golly, my heart stopped every time you hit that car with the magnet. Please find yourself a rubber magnet to use on those original cars - LOL
Yes!!
Wish i could take one ride in this AWESOME car that i grew up in riding and LOVED...NO CAR EVER BETTER THAN A 1950 DeSOTO! A Beautiful and Great work of the "Great Old Chrysler Corporation" (before Iocca and others!) I MISS THESE GREAT MoPars SO MUCH!
I saw those leaf spring sheaths and my memory bank kicked in. As kids we often went to auto scrap yards and stripped that lead sheathing off the springs to make fishing sinkers.
DeSotos were painted at the factory with a synthetic baked enamel, not lacquer which was used on GM cars.
👍👏😊 Between 1949 to 1952 body style, I like the 1950 grill the best
Nice car today we just got our original 1 owner 1950 custom Desorto 😀 only 33.000 all matching numbers and the original owner manuals... only need a nice paint job no rust at all..
I have a '50 Dodge with Fluid Drive. When I was having some work done, my mechanic lost that brace that goes from the engine block to the air cleaner. I had to go to a junkyard to get another one. The one I picked up had a switch on it, like this DeDoto has. It took me a while to discover it was the kick down switch for the semi-automatic transmission. Apparently the parts car I was cannibalizing had the Gyro-Matic. They used different names for Chrysler and DeSoto, even though they were the same transmission.
I miss these SIMPLY GREAT cars SO VERY MUCH!!!
My Dad taught me how to drive in a 1950 DeSoto, I would watch the hood ornament while steering. I loved the dash at night, the speedometer would glow blue.
I LOVE this car! THE SOUND of the GREAT "flathead "6"" is a BEAUTIFUL "ride" to my childhood! I WOULD GIVE MY LEFT/RIGHT "stuff" to EXPERIENCE this GREAT CAR one more time!
There was an illuminated hood ornament available for these similar to what Pontiac had. I guess the original owner didn't want to spring for that accessory. :-)
Nice and well narrated story, too
Mike Gehre gotta love a Desoto I just bought a 56 for a subscriber
What an amazing car. How did you manage to not include any photos or video of the interior?
Back seat and trunk!
A true time capsule.
bob marker absolutely I just added a 1956 Desoto to my collection
What a car!
AN AWESOME CAR! I grew up riding in a '50 DeSoto...WONDERFUL!
ALL CHRYSLER PRODUCT CARS THIS ERA WERE PAINTED ENAMEL, NOT LAQUER ! NICE CAR, THANKS FOR POSTING .
Beautiful car.
tom deininger couldn’t agree more I just added a 1956 Desoto to my collection
I would have liked to see the interior of the car, gauges etc. That wasn't covered at all.
How the heater controls work, back seat, trunk, etc.
I like that car!
miguel perez love Desotos I just added a 1956 to my collection
I LUV THAT CAR! I grew up with a '50 DeSoto! I am now 65 years old, and I NEVER, EVER drove or rode in ANY vehicle that is NEAR EQUAL!
6:10 is when he starts to FINALY drive it.
You're walecum
I’d like to see a 1940 ford in similar condition as that De Sota!!
THERE WAS A DAILY DRIVER UNTIL AT LEAST 1965 IN ANETA NORTH DAKOTA, THE RINGSTADS HAD A GLASSWARE STORE AND HE WAS A WATCHMAKER, IT WAS A 4 DOOR SEDAN EXCEPT THAT THE BACK SEAT FOLDED DOWN, I BELIEVE IT WAS NAMED A CARRYALL.
For some reason the Midwest has great cars .
Reminds me of Doc from the Disney film Cars
Really wonderful, but I always worry that a subsequent owner will trash it - and not necessarily by intent, but just by storing it badly. I'm reminded of the video I saw a few years ago of a old man who was selling a barnful of old cars, all of which were damaged or ruined to various degrees. Some obviously had been in beautiful condition when he got them, which he even pointed out himself, but which now were scratched or dented or had junk piled on top of them. Meanwhile the auctioneer or seller guy was happily repeating, "Oh, that'll clean up real nice" or other stupid statements.
These cars were known for rust resistance when new.
Love it
Whoa! I am overwhelmed at the condition but the styling is so ... beautiful. The car's beauty leaves me speechless. Thank God there are car preservationists out there to care for these cars. People must understand this history to America, engineering, what white people designed and built in a most competitive atmosphere.
WHY not thank the preservationists instead of an imaginary creature?
WOW! NICE!
Cringe with every magnet CLUNK!!! DAMN IT!! I have the 2 door version.
Phenomenal slice of history
Actually a very attractive Automobile
Live to be the next caretaker of her
jakespeed63 couldn’t agree more I just added a 56 Desoto to my collection
I would LOVE to ride in this WONDERFUL car again! I grew up with a '50 DeSoto, i doubt ANYONE EVER built a car as GREAT as this!
It would have been nice to have seen the interior.
If you use a strong neodym magnet, they holding with filler, but of course great condition after almost 70 years 👌👍🎖
❤
Hope that magnet has some tape or plastic on it.
why did you not show the inside of the car???
Tengo uno de 1952 pero vivo en cuba y agui es muy difícil conseguir las cosas originales por el costo y por el precio
I would feel bad to put any more miles on this car
The Real J P Morgan gotta drive it so that people can appreciate it
Canadian Classics it won’t be as cool the higher mileage it gets. There are many thousands of old cars but very few that have this low mileage.
The Real J P Morgan that’s true i see your point I guess most of the cars on my channel are higher mileage rust buckets lol
THESE WERE THE BEST CARS EVER MADE, BY CHRYSLER OR ANYONE! THERE IS NOTHING THAT THESE GREAT CARS WERE NOT CAPABLE OF! SO DISAPPOINTING ARE THE GARBAGE BUCKETS ON THE ROAD NOW!
Please put a thin layer of felt on that magnet
Did this car have fluid drive
This 1950 has less rust than my 2015 Silverado...fml
Sorry, but IT WAS BUILT WITH QUALITY IN MIND...NOTHING LIKE TRASHPILES NOWADAYS!
you never showed the interior or trunk area
Yes, I wanted to see that, too. I assume it's Fluid Drive. I would have liked to see him operating that.
I had a 50 DeSoto Carry-All in 1965. I paid $5 for it, but never got it running.
All this time spent and he never showed the interior.
I was thinking the same thing!
Yes, I wanted to see more of that, too and the trunk. I would assume an original spare tire is in there.
I would have changed every fluid before driving it .
Wasn't this the car driven by the dad on the show Happy Days?
NO HIS WAS A "SUBURBAN"
You make me cringe snapping that magnet on original paint. What is the point of this? The owner says it’s original paint, are you checking to see if he’ s lying? An insult.
I totally agree.
Right? I mean I understand he is demonstrating it is free of filler but could you put a little cloth over it JC!
Or you could just check the bad areas and if those are fine just trust that it’s okay
What are the chances a 5000 mile original has any bondo in it. All you have to do is glance at the car and you know what it is. An outstanding original.
I have a 1951 Desoto tiptoe transmission. Where can I buy 10wt motor oil?
ANY AUTO PARTS STORE
A car made in 1950 named after someone that was born in 1500 bought by someone born in 1880 lol
