    I think the seasonality of Japan, and its cultural consciousness of seasonality reflected in food and style, is a large part of what draws people to Japan.
    It could be very easy to visit Japan, do the Golden Route and think you've seen "the most important" parts of Japan.
    "Forcing" people to see Japan, while still as a vacation, closer to how Japan is experienced and enjoyed living there I feel is an amazing way to encourage people to want to explore Japan and visit multiple times, rather than a hit-list a few cities and instagram the same monuments as everyone else.
    I love your love of a thing that I love 😂 Amazing video as always Ry
    Some of the most beautiful shots and stills

    I have always felt it is unfortunate that all foreign tourists who come to Japan only visit the same places.
    As a Japanese, I would like to strongly emphasise that our country offers wonderful sightseeing in all around the country, no matter where you go.

    • @ryan_bednar
      @ryan_bednar  2 дні тому +4

      Absolutely, I have always felt that it's a shame as well. I have learned in my year and a half of living here that there is so much beyond Tokyo, Kyoto, and Osaka, and it has become my goal to experience that side of Japan and document it so others can learn about it too.

    I am super glad to find this video! I am Japanese originally from Matsumoto, living in Yokohama. Four of my friends from the US are visiting Japan in March. They want to ski, see snow monkeys and visit Zenkoji and Matsumoto jo castle! I am planning itinerary for them now. Wow! What a great example. In Matsumoto, please tell me the name of the restaurant you had SANZOKUYAKI. I wanna take my friends there!

    • @ryan_bednar
      @ryan_bednar  2 дні тому

      What a coincidence, that sounds like a very similar itinerary haha! Unfortunately because it was the weekend before New Year's the restaurants were SO busy in Matsumoto and they only accepted reservations, so we got sanzokuyaki the next day in Obuse instead. There are a ton of restaurants in Matsumoto that offer it as long as you can get a seat. I swear half the restaurants have 山賊焼 written on a sign outside haha. In case you're interested in the Obuse one though, it's called 小布施 寄り付き料理 蔵部.

    Great vids as always Ryan! Japan is so iconic and amazing place for videography and travel. Do you use tripod for those static shot or was it stabilized in post editing?

    • @ryan_bednar
      @ryan_bednar  День тому +1

      @@DTCampingAdventures thank you so much!! If I get in the shot, I use a tripod, but I didn’t use it much in this video since my family were my subjects, in which case I shoot static handheld shots and then stabilize in post. Depending on the situation the camera shake can be nice though, so I don’t always stabilize.

    You guys had a trip to Japan, which not many Japanese can do. Snow monkeys in Nagano Prefecture are said to be the only female monkeys and their offspring that bathe in hot springs. This is because male monkeys look smaller when their body hair gets wet and they cannot intimidate foreign enemies. They need to have abundant body hair to make their bodies look bigger. Zenkoji Temple was built in 642, has a history of 1,400 years, and holds the title as a national treasure of Japan. Anyway, I am glad you enjoyed Japan and thank you for your visit. Please continue to have a good trip.
    I wish you the best of luck.

    Dense, crowded, bustling big cities like Tokyo and Osaka only show one side of Japan.
    It is in traditional rural towns like Gujo Hachiman, Nagano City, and Matsumoto City that you can discover the deeper, more regionally distinct cultural sides of Japan.
    However, what you did from 14:46 onwards is not something you should do in the sacred grounds of Togakushi Shrine.
    If you're in Japan, I think you should follow Japanese etiquette.

    • @ryan_bednar
      @ryan_bednar  2 дні тому

      I completely agree, and that is my goal in my journey here, to explore and understand those deeper aspects of this amazing country.
      Regarding the sliding on the snow, I am generally quite conscious of my presence in Japan and I take following etiquette seriously, but I am not so sure that a bit of fun in the snow is disrespectful. Many other Japanese people commented that they found it funny, but I do take this feedback graciously. Thank you for the comment.

      @MITOGURO 12 годин тому

      @
      The area of Togakushi Shrine shown in the video is now open to the public, but in the past it was a sacred area that only Shugendo practitioners could enter, and the mountain itself was an object of worship. Times have changed, but today the area beyond the Suishinmon Gate is considered a particularly solemn area. Please respect the traditions and history that have been passed down through the generations, without judging the comments based on whether they are fun or not.
