Thanks a lot, Every video on youtube only told how to Assemble, but no one told how to Disassemble. I think this is the only latest video on this subject. You can tag it with those keywords. Will be helpful for many. Thanks again
Just what I needed! I figured there must be an easier way. Would have been nice if Elinchrom had included such instructions with the octabox. Thanks for the video!
Though I don't own and actual Elinchrom softbox (mine is an Interfit), the concepts here really helped me get it together. I was ready to give up. Couple of tips for anyone who is trying to use the Elinchrom Rotalux speedring on an Interfit softbox, you'll first have to put the rods in a vice and hammer off the smaller of the two end tips. Then, because the Interfit has a velcro opening, make absolutely sure that the velcro is locked tight around the speedring. When installing the first rod, make sure the speedring doesn't escape the hole for it which mine did SEVERAL times. Once the second rod is in place, it is much simpler but I found that I had to stand on the speedring (well, put some weight on it) on the opposite of the rod I was installing. Once the first four rods are in, there is almost no chance of the speedring escaping the hole and making your life miserable as it did mine. Granted, the Interfit isn't designed for the Rotalux ring but I was able to make it work. No one online had any advice about this little problem so perhaps my experience will help. Thank you so much for taking the time to make the video. I hope never to have to assemble this bad boy again! phew!!!
@@AaronAndersonVisuals well, as an addendum to the above, while folding it up, the velcro opening, umhh...opened and spit the speedring out. Had to start over again but only after I sewed the opening closed completely with very heavy thread. After I started over I had no further problem now that that thing is sewed closed. Of course, THIS little project wasn't quite what you had in mind when you did your video but it surely was helpful as I was trying to make something not designed for that speedring work. It does now...phew.
Thanks for this video..U should also show how to fix this to light. I was doing it wrong way....and thn saw a video somewhere and only then I was able to put this on light
Nice video which helped me at the end. But one thing the guy forgets to mention. It is possible to assemble the octa with the ring upside down. When you are ready you discover that it is not possible to click the octa to the flash. It happened to me, but it will not happen again.
Aaron, sometimes a lug on an Elinchrom mount will become difficult to pop in and out. I've tried WD-40 and messing around with it but can never seem to fix it, usually I buy a new mount from frustration. Do you have any advise for this?
Matthew Hodges I’ve had that issue after a few years on some of them, and typically I just end up replacing the speed ring. Usually I can wiggle it in for a bit but eventually it doesn’t work anymore. No real truck on this one, I think it just happens!
@@AaronAndersonVisuals ah okay, i was looking for a fix to this, just tried wd-40 and i have now a blister on my thumb from forcing the thingies to snap xD but just a new speedring would do the trick?
Thanks for the great tutorial. I just have one problem which I can't solve myself: The moment I put the first rod in it's pocket, the speedring just moves, and I jus't can't keep it centered. What is the secret? :(
Try to get the lip of the speed ring to catch on the inner circle. Once you put in the first rod if you put in the rod opposite to the one you just did it should hold the speed ring in place!
Appreciate the quick response. The other issue I'm having is that I can never adjust the rodes directly with the seam, which probably prevents me from pulling down the brackets at the end. No matter how much I adjust the speedring in the process, I'm somehow ending again and again with a slight misalignment...
Oh wow that’s MUCH easier to carry a large Octo on the set ... My 5 Foot Octo Profoto stays in studio because it is so hard to disassemble it ... no second diffusion layer is not good tho , hopefully their other models have two layers of diffusion
Thank you so much!!!! I couldn't do it and you've really helped me ❤ 1am here in the UK 🙈
As a photographer who just got his first Octabox, and was looking baffled at all the parts, thank you for telling me what to do with them.
Couldn't for the LIFE of me figure out how to break down my octabox. THANK YOU FOR THIS!
I just saw this, thank you Lauren, happy to help!
Instructions from Elinchrom for their Octabox, 1/10. Instructions from Aaron, 10/10!
Elinchrom needs to be paying you.....perfect set up!!

Elinchrome doesn’t include the easy carry/storage bag for Octa in India...
don't get me started with profoto 5' octa lol literally was about to call it quits hahah
Looks easy but it's not 😭😭 I'm about to sell it because it's difficult to put together
You can do it! Just get it put together once and you don’t have to do it again!
