    Yum!! It has been SO LONG since we made homemade ice cream! We used to hand crank some gizmo that my Dad made with salted ice and a tin when I was a kid. 😅 No fancy ice cream machine for me when I was little, we worked hard for that treat, Haha! I love good thrift store finds too! Oooh that looks good and that giant cupcake is so fun!

    • @bluefeatherhomestead
      @bluefeatherhomestead  2 роки тому +3

      lolol.... Same girl. We took turns sitting on top of ours to keep it steady while the other cranked. It seemed to taste better because of all of our hard work. This gizmo is easy peazy. lol. It stays on my counter during summer. Do you remember snow cone machines that we had to turn the crank too??? Ours was a snoopy one. Well, we now have one that you plug in. IT'S WONDERFUL. haha.... It was so fun making those snow cones.

      @@YogiHollowFarm Omgosh.... I had the best time digging through grandma's old cookbooks. I never found it though. Lolololol..... BUT I found the recipe that I was visualizing her making. Or I should say found A recipe that looks the same. Might be a little different. I thought she used chocolate sweetened condensed milk but here it is:
      2 cups cold heavy cream, whip with beater until stiff peak forms.
      Add 1 can 14oz. Sweetened condensed milk &
      1/2 cup cocoa powder
      Beat in those 2 ingredients on low until blended.
      Pour into a pan (I think a loaf pan but probably doesn't matter what you put it in) cover with plastic wrap and freeze for at least 6 hours.

    How much rock salt? Or does it matter?

    • @bluefeatherhomestead
      @bluefeatherhomestead  2 місяці тому +1

      I think that I have used a whole box of it before. It makes it colder. I add ice and salt to the ice many times while it's churning. It just depends on how fast the ice is melting.

    • @bluefeatherhomestead
      @bluefeatherhomestead  10 місяців тому +2

      I'm not sure how I missed this, but it is an excellent question & concern. From what I have researched, 1 egg in 20,000 may be contaminated with salmonella. If a person is infected with salmonella, they could experience diarrhea, fever,abdominal cramps, headache & or nausea/vomiting. I use our farm eggs here but have also used store bought for ice cream recipes. 🍦 I have also read that you can mix your ingredients minus the eggs. Heat it on stove to 160F and then add your eggs, that, this temp would kill any harmful bacteria. Thank you for the great question & I hope this helps. ~Sammie 😃
