Thank you Fr. Chris for this podcast. I know Catholics who divorced and left the Church because they thought they could receive the sacraments and felt separated from the Church. I was in an emotionally abusive marriage marriage for 27 years. I stayed for the sake of the children . I was granted an annulment on the grounds of Emotional abandonment on several levels, as my husband was not capable to have an emotionally intimate relationship per a professional psychologist and from testimony to the Church from witnesses. I sought the annulment to also free me from the sense of obligation I felt to him on a spiritual level. The annulments process was lengthy and for the most part very healing. Never remarried.
I am so happy to have found this video which is dated 3 years ago, because I recently watched a video with you Father on another persons podcast where she stated that abuse was not a reason to get an annulment and that the marriage would still be valid, even with an annulment. I am a victim of abuse, and I will not be uncharitable to my ex-husband, so I cannot get into details. There was a lot I didn't know about him, which came out later in counseling, and our counselor was a Catholic priest. I followed all the rules and homework assignments, and my then husband broke every rule and guidance suggestion. It was horrible and scary to even get in a car, for fear of my life. My annulment process was very long and painful, but in the end, it was granted. I later got married in the Catholic church to my present husband. I wish I could send this video to the person you made the podcast with so she would have some clarity, because she is counseling couples and I would hate to see her giving wrong advice or making statements that are just not true.

Fr Chris, this talked popped up on my screen after Divine Mercy Mass this morning. What a beautiful explanation of the Church’s teaching on marriage. I wish all people could hear this-young and old, in any vocation-because it all makes sense. I am learning too; as a child of the 70s I did not get much of this info and am very thankful for all your talks. I am always learning! Also, I have a divorced friend with whom I would love to share this particular talk. Fr Chris, please let me thank you for your good humor. This is a special part of your personality that adds a spark of pure joy to your teaching. 🙏✝️💖
Fr. Chris, I love what you shared about the Croatian custom of “you’ve found your Cross”.. resonates with a marriage philosophy I learned some time ago. In this day and age we sensationalize the concept of finding “the one” we are “compatible” with (I.e. the soulmate).. but people get the meaning of compatibility twisted. Being compatible to someone means being willing to *suffer with* .. the Latin Root for compatible is compati, which means suffer (pati) with (com). And furthermore, pati is the Latin origin of passion (which is another sensationalized word connoting strong carnal emotions, but which truly means suffering in sacrificial and unconditional love, as how Jesus did by His Passion). We are not by default compatible with someone, as in there is no such thing as a soulmate predestined for us. That is a worldly narcissistic mentality that sadly sets the wrong expectations for marriage and could be what plays a big part in the high rates of divorces in the Western World. Instead: We become compatible through mutual suffering founded in sacrificial love as spouses who have made the sacramental Vow in front of God (carrying that Cross). I found that Croatian custom very fascinating and no wonder there are no “divorces” or “annulments” there. That’s the attitude and success formula for lifelong marriages.
Thank you Father.. I needed to hear this. Please don’t shorten your talks, we need this more than you can imagine.. God love you I haven been divorced now over five years. I live with the guilt of destroying my marriage. We had a civil wedding. I did not practice my faith then nor did I when I divorced. It was only about two years after the divorce that by God’s Grace I returned to the faith, confessed and have been trying to live by the church’s teachings. But I struggle with the guilt still. I am Catholic baptised, he was but not Catholic. I will try and get an annulment, it might help me heal. I am not sure if he got remarried or what his situation is, but I have been single, and living alone. I don’t want him to be punished for my sin. Maybe someday if it’s God’s will, I would like to meet someone and get married again. And I do pray for that and until then for the grace to live alone. But the guilt of my past still affects me.
God bless you Sandra.... remember, God loves us infinitely no matter what we have done as long as we come back to her with contrition. It is clear you have done that. You are in our prayers.

Thank you so much for this very informative explanation about marriage. This is good for all people to hear especially for our time.. God bless you and your community abundantly.
Father.. in some cases digging for the truth is extremely difficult in these cases with the declaration of nullity... it makes sense why some tribunals request a psychologist to look between the lines through the testimonies. Thank you for your talk . We need more dioceses to explain the process and be more transparent.
My mum divorced my dad as he was completely irresponsible, ended up in prison when I was 2. It was in the times of post-communism in Poland, she was left alone and had 2 shift work in order to make it thus she had to pay back money to the mafia he had borrowed money from. When I was around 4-5 years old she met another man that helped her & took me in as his daughter. Thanks to him we moved to Sweden. My mum remarried even though she had faith but did not recieve an anullment or permission to remarry. She and my step dad are still together and still go to church from time to time but it really made her feel like a cast-away. I know that in her heart she craves her faith but she feels guilty for being in this relationship even though they have been faithful to eachother for more than 27 years. It seems that the church can be very harsh on judging people for their life circumstances and are pushing them away from God. I myself came back to faith after 17 years just recently and it still hurts my heart my parents cannot be accepted by the church and their sins cannot be forgiven. I pray for them everyday & ask God for mercy.

@@mistybuttercup110 Yes, unfortunately we had to turn them off because they were incorrect and putting curse words in for the name of Jesus. It was very sinister and we don't know why it was happening.
Thank you for your talk which covers a very important issue in society today, this really opens my eyes to the Church's teaching!!
Thank you Helene for joining us and being open to God's teaching through His Church.
Good morning dear Fr. Chris. Today 1/16/23 Blessed New Year to you, your family & staff at the Shrine. Don't know when this talk was, but I came across it today. Yesterday I was in tears during Mass because my daughter's divorced fiancee is non Catholic Christian. They're dragging their feet to file Annulment so they can marry in the Catholic Church. They're other choice is for his Church Pastor to marry them, so sad, I'd wish for my only child to be blessed and receive the Sacrament of Marriage by an Ordained Priest. What am I to do!!!
Thank you Father, how wonderful the explanation and all of your teaching so far. To me your are the great gift from God to us the laity
God bless you IT... and thank you for being a faithful Catholic.
Heavenly Father please protecr Fr Chris..Amen

Father Chris Alar thank you for the detailed insight and inspiration of Marriage, Divorce and Annulments that the Church Actually Teaches; ie For better or Worse as vowed. If one breaks any one's marriage, God will put asunder to one; it is a dead sin.
Thank you Fr Chris on your informative talk about marriage, divorce and annulment 🙏
Father Chris,Congratulations on your promotion. I continue to pray for you and your intentions.,This Saturday class will help so many Catholics who misunderstand. God bless all who read these words,"Jesus i trust in You"
Oh thank you. I had just joined when my spouse divorced me. We were separated while I was in RCIA. I asked him to leave do to abuse. I have struggled 7 years later withe trauma and then have beat myself up because I am divorced even though the church annulled it. But it is reassuring to know I did nothing wrong.
Yes, KB, each situation is different and the Church takes that into consideration.
Thanks for the enlightenment. God be the glory.
We are blessed to have you Father. I am listening from India. Continue your talks which are required for Evangelising couples and for living a holy married life.

The truth you spoke brought me comfort and opened another path for me. Your sister is very lucky to have you and I am thankful I can at least hear it on UA-cam since I have yet to find a Priest who has been able to provide that kind of spiritual direction. Thank you.

The wife’s mission is to also get the husband to heaven. Because the prayer of a wife for the husband and vice versa are very powerful in the eyes of the Lord. Just like a prayer from a mother to her child. It has a special grace.
Indeed Carla, l pray for my non-catholic husband daily for his conversion, because of different cultures, n we have differences of opinion n after 30 yrs of marriage n moving to TLM n 7 yrs ago, l understood to pray daily n asking Blessed Mother Mary to help us be patient, persevere n respect each other. l changed first n l saw my husband changed too. Now we understood each other better n prayers have helped us to respect each other, be patient, persevere n love each other more. Thanks be to GOD for HIS blessings n Mother Mary's intercession.
Who prays for the unmarried, how do they get help to go to Heaven?
I am Croatian Canadian. LOL you butchered my Dad's home town about no divorce . God bless you and God love you Father . Amen.
Very informative, Fr Chris. I was especially focused on the marriage ceremony in Croatia. That marriage is a CROSS. Maybe if couples who marry accept this, there will be less separations and divorce.
Yes, very interesting.....
@@FP111 Good points to ponder... and to pray on.
Thank you for educating us about our s catholic faith - it was very inspiring - please keep husband and son in prayer as they dont believe in God - son baptized in the catholic church and husband - a non practicing Muslim
Thank you Paula Ann and God bless you. We appreciate you joining us and for sharing these videos to help spread our faith.
Another great talk… Thank you Father Chris
Thank you for explaining. I had never heard an explanation of what a divorce or annulment is.
God love you
I haven been divorced now over five years.
Divine Mercy thank you Father.. your words give me confidence and courage.. May God love you

Father.. in some cases digging for the truth is extremely difficult in these cases with the declaration of nullity... it makes sense why some tribunals request a psychologist to look between the lines through the testimonies.
Thank you for your talk .
We need more dioceses to explain the process and be more transparent.
I learn a lot with you about our Heavenly Father. Amen ❤
Thank you father, love listening you ❤🙏😇
