Many thanks for this. I attended this race, my best memory being the howl of the Lister Storms as they exited Woodcote together in the closing stages. A great era of GT racing.
20:4829:30 RWS Motorsport Porsche 911 996 GT: When Porsche introduced the new water-cooled 996, there was no replacement for the 911 993 GT2. The 993 GT2 had spent the end of the 1990s getting creamed by Oreca Viper GTS-Rs, which may have been the reason why Porsche chose to concentrate on lower spec GT3 cars when they introduced the 996. This left teams that wanted to race in GT2 with a problem. They either had to continue running obsolete 993s and try to figure out how to make them quicker, or try to custom-build new GT2 cars by adding turbos and other upgrades to 996 GT3-Rs. Neither effort was particularly successful. 13:0530:15 Force One Racing Ferrari 550 Millenio: Despite their best efforts, this car proved so problematic that David Halladay's race team ended up retiring it before Donington, replacing it with a brand new Oreca Viper GTS-R.
I can't believe this is here! I was at this race, was awesome to see the battle!
