The beauty of this piece is more in the treatment of the haunting melody. The timbre of the trombone family of brass, including the lower trumpet range, are a close match to the male human voice. It's warm and loving while lending strength of implied authority ...strength with a velvet touch, if you will. Such treatment stirs the memories of life and imagination of desire. I sigh after hearing it. Thank you for sharing, Paul.
I trust that any non-brass player does not underestimate the beauty and difficulty of this performance. AS plays this in the most difficult mid-lower register without a single short cut - like pulling off a long tone with a just a couple of beats rest to recover the immense load on his chops. This is a spectacular piece of playing, make no mistake about that. As a student of that most difficult of instruments the trumpet, I am in absolute awe.
Anyone who knows me knows that I’m always a fan of atmosphere. This is so fun and lovely - and man, you gotta love that bass bone at the root of all that vibin’.
One of the most beautiful melodies ever written. It’s proof that music doesn’t have to be overly complex to create an emotional connection with it. Perhaps, the more basic things are, the more we appreciate them. This piece allows the listener to think/dream/reflect etc. Well performed!
I'm with you. I've always loved this piece of music and when Blood Sweat and Tears did it on their second album I nearly flipped out over how cool that was. I am the trombone player with the 70's horn band The Gringos. Two years we became active again after a 40 year hiatus, and recently released our 7th single from our upcoming album.
I love this arrangement! Music is magical and transports you to all kinds of places. And, since it is something you experience, it is never exactly the same twice.
Absolutely amazing arrangement! When learning about Satie this past semester in Music Theory, my professor told us to remember this piece for the listening part of the exam by picturing ourselves in an elevator listening to music over the speakers :)
@@PaulTheTrombonist Nicely arranged with the voices and bone playing the chords - almost straight out of the original piano score, and Arturo with such a beautiful tone. Your arrangement?
Such a beautiful arrangement of one of my favorite pieces. Great musicians all! Thanks so much! So happy especially to hear Arturo Sandoval one of my heroes!
This is a very unique arrangment of instruments. I'm very happy to hear how the level of peace this piece has on piano is the same here. Thank you for taking time and energy into making this happen and aligning all the recordings together, I imagine it isn't easy. I'm naive to composing, but I wasn't sure a texture this thick would hold the same peace, but it certainly does! This shows me that it is possible to arrange a peaceful, storytelling melody and harmony in a thicker texture while retaining the lower intensity a single instrument has in the original composition.
Beautifully done! I actually played this melody on one of my undergrad juries in the early-mid 70’s. It requires control of one’s air support throughout.
Wow! Just beautiful! This melody touches my heart and soul. So simple and so delicate yet so impactful. You played beautifully, and what a score to have Arturo Sandoval and Leonard Patton record this with you! Congratulations Paul! 🙏❤️🎶
This is so beautiful and pleasant to listen to. Thank you 🥳🥰 I love how the melody does not change too much whilst the rest goes from simple and sound to complex but still soft. Beautiful work, i love it…
You're right! We've never heard this haunting melody. Keep up the great work. Hope to feature our daughter if you're ever interested in a fantastic fiddler for a collaboration.
Thanks for watching! If you enjoyed this, don't forget to comment and like to push our love of music out to more people. Thank you :)
