one thing that i've thought of about the topic of Link talking, I really think they'll use the manga for inspiration of Link's personality. In those, specifically the Twilight Princess, Ocarina of Time, and Majora's Mask manga, he has a more serious and mature personality that's still caring, it honestly fits him
As long as we don't get a "Well excuuuuuse me, princess!" Link I'm okay with any personality 😂

They will cast an alien for Ganondorf because of the green skin color.
They could always give Link the John Wick treatment. He talks a bit, but not as much as Zelda does. Though what I'm afraid of is if they eventually bring in the Rito. Just like with what you said about the Zora, I wouldn't want a very realistic bird person. But something closer to how Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom interpret the Rito
This actually makes a lot of sense. John Wick mostly was focused on the action, and John Wick was pretty much a silent protagonist, mostly saying yes or no. I'm glad you're not one of those folks who think Link is mute and shouldn't talk, cause I hate it when folks say that when he is clearly shown to talk in the games all the time, it's just that we can't ever hear what he says. I like the idea of him talking when he really needs to or in several doses, but not over the top speaking.
I agree about the Rito, but I think it could work, considering the way they looked in BOTW/TOTK they are just anthropomorphic birds. I wouldn't want them to be depicted as humans with beaks like they were in Wind Waker or some other weird human/bird hybrid that goes straight into the Uncanny Valley.

Twilight Princess is the most 'realistic' game in terms of character design.
@@DarkCreed The only bad thing about Twilight Princess is that certain races didn't work and looked horrendous. Since it's a more realistic-looking game, the more fantastical fantasy races like the Zora and Gorons looked really Uncanny Valley. The Zoras looked so human, yet they obviously weren't, so it just looked so unsettling. The weird thing is that they looked even more human than some of the humans in that game. And the less said about that creepy-looking human-faced bird thing, the better.
People thought that the decective pikachu movie was going to be bad because it was live action and that film was great, so I think that it could work with Zelda
but, they could have gotten better actors for that one if the saved their budget a bit

Zelda is way out of the league from mario brothers and Pokémon. It’s an adventure game with quests and dungeons. It’ll easily be destroyed this way sadly
CGI mascot movies like Pikachu and Sonic are completely different ball games compared to a fantasy epic like Zelda.
People kept forgetting the reason Link doesn't talk is because in the game, he's your stand in. Movie Link is not your stand in, he's his own character so of course he is going to speak and I hope he speak a lot. Different medium, different rules altogether.
I have to say, Link has never been MY stand in.

I would like an animated film, but that studio ghibli idea was never really feasible. from what I understand, they've never done adaptations of other people's work, why would they choose to work with Nintendo on a Zelda film where they will have significantly less say in the process?
Yeah, I agree but here's a catch people should know. Before the Mario movie, I heard that Illumination are FINALLY taking risks and have made a label studio called Moonlight, where they're gonna create adult animated projects with Mike Moon (who worked with Netflix on Adult animation content). When I heard this, I thought Nintendo were gonna stick with them and problaby make an Adult animated Zelda movie with Henry Cavill rumored to be playing Link.

Definitely agree! I loved the books but the movie was something else. The books were more detailed, yes, but there was a lot of issues with them and they really weren't well-written to be brutally honest. The movies were much easier to follow and character choices made much more sense.
Check Kingdom of the Planet of the Apes trailer to get an idea of how this may go. Same director.
#1 fear is casting… if it where animation all you have to worry about is voice acting and making a character sound right. Now they have 3 of the most iconic video game characters ever made and they need to find actors that look like, sound like and can act like them… has me worried a little bit ngl. Also I think animated movies are just way more expressive
I strongly agree that animation often does allow room for more expression and more ideas that you wouldn't be able to achieve with live action, but I always thought it made sense for Zelda to be live action rather than animated, considering the whole Lord of the Rings vibe to it and Zelda as a whole is kind of a more mature and darker series compared to the other Nintendo series *(with the exception of stuff like Wind Waker or Link's Awakening which were mostly whimsical and cartoony, but even those games had their dark moments too). If Zelda were to be animated, most folks agree it should be done by Ghibi Studios.
The premise is to cast unknown actors, there is really no famous actor who could fit in the roles of Link and Zelda in any way.

Ocarina of time is the perfect story to tell.
I agree, the Ocarina story is the most well-known of the bunch. Even throughout the games, it's the Hero of Time's story that has been retold over and over again more than any other Link.
There is no chance this film will be adapting a game.
Ocarina would work better as a series
With Ocarina, they can use the adult timeline for the more darker stuff like redeads and Skulltula family.
Majora's Mask needs a horror adaption
While I am a bit disappointed that we aren't getting a Ghibili Zelda movie, here are my suggestion for Wes Ball that myself and other Zelda fans really wanted to see in a live action version:
-History of Hyrule, the Goddess Hylia, Demon King Demise and the Triforce
- Ganondorf as the main baddy with some more in depth into his character
- Link x Princess Zelda's relationship.
- Cast anyone that isn’t Tom Holland for Link.
- Link’s inner struggle between being a Hero of Hyrule and his own happiness.
- An original story ( not a copy of OT, BOTW or TOTK) that is well structured with it's own set of characters, a new version of Hyrule, and a epic action- fantasy with a dash of gritty realism that is build by confident writers.
- Other hidden abilities the Master Sword can do other than sealing away the darkness

This is my hope...that the last thing in their heads is to make a movie for a "modern audience" nor with "modern sensibilities" in mind. I hope this movie takes most of its artistic inspiration from Epics like The Lord of the Rings, Princess Mononoke, Willow and The Dark Crystal. I miss great/timeless fantacy stories with heroes and characters like Aragon, Frodo/Sam or Willow. I love Demon Slayer's Tanjiro and Nezuko. Two heroes who are evolving and enough time is allowed to show their growth with the help of their friends and the guidance of their forebears. I miss old sages like Gandalf. I hope Link is not all powerful, wise and skilled from the start. I hope they make an epic with heart that anyone can relate with. Disney has made plenty of dull characters who are all powerful, who are initially overshadowed by others and dream to become greater than their peers. Tanjiro's dream is to have a simple life and restore his sisters humanity. Willow, Frodo and Sam all are called in for a greater cause but understand how small they are in a vast world. Aragon has no desire to rule men for his own glory but cares for his friends and what is right. Disney wants to "Let the past die. Kill it if you have to" But I think this is one of the main reasons they are doing so bad these days...We have forgotten our humanity in movies. This story can be Epic, magical and timeless.
I hope that, too. Haven't seen a great cinema movie for many years, especially when it comes to fantasy. The franchise is soo popular and nintendo has enough money and time to develop a perfect movie, it has to get epic.

I really hope they set it in the same world as BOTW/HW/TOTK since those games are most fresh in people's minds. Recognisable places, characters, references etc. Get the Champions or Sages in along with references to Zonai, the Dragons etc. Though at the same time, would be amazing if they cast a child and adult Link, as a nod to OOT. It would be a good way to introduce people to him speaking because hearing a child speak feels more natural and simple. It could be part of playing, fighting or whatever. Once you get used to kid Link talking, it would build up the suspense and excitement for the adult voice (and reduce potential cringe of hearing him talk after all these decades).

@@alexanderjakubowski5673 Those games have better narratives than over half of the series (especially BotW), and they have what is easier the best developed version of Princess Zelda herself (only Skyward Sword Zelda is arguably better than her).
I am generally pretty excited for the zelda film. The fact that a movie is being made based off my favorite game franchise of all time baffles me. I am also kinda worried that the live action won't do the series justice and that it will seem, just odd. I believe that Nintendo will be able to make a good movie based off the series but I do still think animation style like the mario movie would have suited better.

Hey Nin10doland! I'm cautiously optimistic for this. I don't know what to expect story-wise. If it is an adaptation of any past game, Twilight Princess would fit most visually and I would love it personally since it's my favorite 3D Zelda game and my childhood Zelda game and my introduction to Zelda in general too.
I think the best game to adapt or maybe look for guidance towards would be twilight Princess. The story and characters are more grounded, not too cartoony, and a lot of it is based off of real life. Plus it’s their best Zelda game imo and I’d love to see it and see an older link instead of a child. I pray this movie ends up being great and honestly I hope it turns out to be the best movie of all time and turns into a series maybe or has sequels.
Also I think in this Zelda they should make Link in his teens and in the beginning he has a sorta Guts vibe but toned down, where he’s a man of few words but has a softer side and such.
Also for an actor for Link, I think the dude that plays Dalton from insidious looks like a good link, and he really wouldn’t need to talk
In terms of story they could go with Ocarina of Time. That way they can have the goofiness and wymsical tone with he Child timelime, then use the adult timeline for the darker and more epic stuff. In terms of character design, Twilight Princess is the most 'realistic' Zelda game.

I'm thinking the movie will probably look something like Game of Thrones. You probably won't see Link in his recognizable green clothing and you probably won't see Zelda in a pink dress. I'm guessing PG13 with adult themes. Apart from the story it'll probably be unrecognizable to most fans. That's my guess anyway.
Imagine instead of one movie we get a trilogy.
First movie is about child link and zelda where our villain will be something like the original ganon or calamity.
Second movie we have a skyward sword link. Ganondorf is introduced and is the main villain for the second.
Final movie. Botw age link. There could be 2 options for this
1) Tears of the kingdom demon ganon as main villain with another side villain such as Majora or Zant.
2) they bring Astor back who is plotting to revive a demon king. This is not ganondorf but instead Demise. Girahirm can be there aswell.
At the end Ganondorf somehow redeems himself and all 3 parts of the triforce fight in one final battle against Demise
Here's my idea for a teaser trailer for the movie: Basically, you have the Great Deku Tree speaking, along with scenes where Zelda is captured by Ganondorf, Link fights off King Dodongo, etc. before the movie's title of The Legend of Zelda appears on screen.
I actually think the story of Hyrule Warriors Age of Calamity would make a good place to have the movie.

For those of you who have doubts of a Smash Bros. Movie, there is a way they can make it work. Animation and Live action combined. It has been done before in “Who Framed Roger Rabbit”, “Chip ‘N’ Dale: Rescue Rangers” and “Spider-Man: Across the Spiderverse”. Don’t think for a second that Nintendo could refuse to go that route.
It's a smart move, especially if they decide to make a Metroid movie.

I have to say I am excited for this movie, but another thought in my head would be that maybe some things aren’t really meant to be, but I think this movie could also be something extraordinary
For me I am big on original storyline. As someone who used to write fanfic, one thing I have learned is that being creative is one thing, but going over board and with big ideas when scripting can lead to a compromised storyline. And fans will pick up on this especially if events are out of order or are completely missing. I hope that those involved with scripting pay close attention to the sequence of events in the Legond of Zelda storyline. Moreover, that they do not write something that completely punches holes in the original storyline there by throwing everything off. I say this because I have seen this happen in other movies or tv series. Especially those that had been taken over by Netflix in terms of production
A Legend of Zelda movie is only a couple hour old news for me right now, but gosh it hadn't occurred to me to fear for how they could mess it up until you pointed it out. You do bring up good points though. I will hope for something as quality as a Lord of the Rings or Avatar style, & I think Nintendo has a good chance of pulling it off well. Just the fact of their high standards & care they put into their games, I think we most likely have something to look forward to.

I just hope they do what the One Piece live action series did. Dramatic sets, practical effects and makeup instead of CGI (where possible) and relatively unknown actors as the stars
my worry is this will ruin link as a silent protagonist, and as a gender ambiguous character which was a large part of the inspiration for his original design. if he's cast as a real man who talks then all that disappears.

This isn't a game, its a movie. Link is gonna have to speak. As for Link's and Zelda's (everybody's), I hope they make them look masculine (Link) and feminine (Zelda) instead of this current 50-50 crap. Like in Twilight Princess.
Link spoke already long ago, in the cartoons and the CDI games (both protraying the original Zelda 1 Link)
Only the BotW Link is explicitly referred to as silent. Also note that silent is not mute, so sign language would make no sense and be rather comical, a way better way to do would be that he doesn't speak a lot perhaps not making him the main character. Maybe see a story from Zelda's perspective.

Here's a thought how about movie link can speak sign language, and we learn the tragic back story of why he can't talk.
I’ve been tellin by people for years it’ll be live action and even made a video about it a year ago going why it was the most likely option.
That being said, I do think they’ll do an animated Zelda at some point. I mean, technically they already have, but it’s one of the few more heavy IP’s Nintendo has, so they could make different kinds of adaptations and explore different stories in different ways.
What they might do is show Links back story of how he became Zelda royal guard and when he was younger and that is when he talks the most. To later when he doesn’t really talk at all
What about Link somehow gets to Gandon by discovering he could do a speed-run jumping and gliding and bypass a good part of the game sub quests, AFTER he builds characters relationships? this way he could touch on the sky and underworlds maybe... but i guess we will find out.

I think Zelda could be animated if it's for games like Wind Waker or Link's Awakening, but not if they're trying to make a movie similar to a game like Twilight Princess or Ocarina of Time which were more realistic and serious. What if the races like Zora and Rito were done like the Avatar Movie did by using CG character animation filmed with new motion-capture techniques using live actors? Now, as someone who has enjoyed many stick figure animations= I know for sure that you can make good experiences without *any speaking roles at all* just fine- compared to that, a Silent protagonist is more than doable.
That said, you don't often see stick-figure shows playing in theaters. And I can understand that It's probably in Nintendo's best interest to make the movie as accessible as possible.
Not just to people who don't play the games, but for people who may also literally have impaired vision in addition to the voice. It's gonna be interesting to see what Nintendo thinks a good Link would be, for the people who aren't playing as them.

The thing ive been wanting since i played Zelda 3( ALTTP) and always wanted a zelda movie...and as each new game came out i wanted it more...especially when OOT,MM,BOTW,and now TOTK have been such epic games and the storyline is so ....structured,lol....then they did lord of the rings...and i feel like u cant get better than those movies, as far as that type of fantasy movie.....but i hope they do it justice
