  • In this video I cover how to replace the battery in a Mid 2014 - 15 inch Retina Macbook Pro. The process in this video is different than that in the ifixit guide.

Thanks for the video. I had no desire to follow the ifixit instructions. With your video and taking the precautions of using low, occasional heat, patience, and plastic pry tools, it worked.

Same here. The instructions mine came with didn't look like it was the exact same board used in their example. I searched to find a demo with a board that looked exactly like mine. Your video and another guy. He used nail polish remover and a string to pull out the battery. I didn't feel comfortable doing that. I followed your method using a hair dryer and used a string like the other video and that worked perfectly. Also, I am glad you mentioned the plastic cover for the track pad. I wouldn't have known that. The plastic tool they included with the battery I purchased just bent and didn't do squat. Thanks for your video. Extremely helpful.

A really helpful video. And you give tips on the little trackpad problem that you faced. Thanks. By the way, your hair looks great in the overhead shots :) Unfortunately I don't have a heatgun. I guess a hair dryer wouldn't give sufficient heat?

Yeah a hair dryer would work. It doesn’t have to get super hot. Just enough to help the adhesive release.

Is the replacement any different for the Late 2013 15in MBP Retina? Trackpad etc?

I just skimmed through the iFixit repair guide for a late 2013 15 inch retina and it looks nearly identical.

I can’t speak for the quality control of the battery I used as I bought it on Amazon but I haven’t had any issues with it. Unless you buy an OEM replacement it’s going to be a battery from china. Heck, I think the OEM is also from
      china.

@@helphq thank you for answering I’m struggling to find a good reliable battery everywhere I go there’s comments about bad batteries I just don’t want to deal with doing it all over again and returning things,
mine is a 2014 running Ventura with the patcher but I’m getting the same issue you were having and Apple won’t touch it

Make sure this is the correct battery for your laptop, but ifixit is usually good about not selling junk parts. They have decent customer service as well should you run into any problems.
