This is an extremely helpful video. I wish you were my psychiatrist when I was going through a mental breakdown. I had a psychiatrist who put me on moderate doses of multiple antidepressants which ended up making me feel even more chaotic and crazy, even when I said I displayed dangerous symptoms, my doctor didn't take me off lamictal or other medications that were causing issues. I took some for half a year and some for years. Many medications gave me side effects until I just stopped going to a psychiatrist completely and stopped taking all meds cold turkey (Yes, I had really bad withdrawals years ago). A lot of psychiatrists I went to haven't listened to me at all even though I'm still suffering with major depression, panic attacks and flashbacks still. I don't understand why many psychiatrists just don't listen. If they had just listened to me, I'm sure we would have found a medication that actually worked for me.

I realize I'm late to this but that's exactly what I believe. They absolutely don't listen and just decide what's wrong with you after five minutes of talking. I told my therapist I need more than one session to tell you about myself and she gave me another session and then told me I'm letting you just explain away because I know you need to be in control and even though I am a controlling person and I'm well aware of that, that wasn't about control. That was because therapists and psychiatrists don't listen to you. They just prescribe something and say let's see what happens. It's like just shooting in the dark and just like that so many years of my life have just been wasted away. No matter what part of the world you are, you just need someone who listens.

Hate to say it but a lot of psych's dont even care about their patients. I have been in the system since my OCD got really bad at 14, im now 24. Had it for pretty much my whole life. My first psych told me prozac would work for my ocd and my symptoms would be gone with no side effects. Tried it at max dose, nothing, then zyprexa, nothing, then risperidone, nothing, klonopin, nothing, inderall, nothing, same with flunoxal injection. Then into a teen and child psych hospital outpatient program. They took me off all but prozac, and left me on seroquel xr. Even though it didnt work, I was on it for almost 5 years before a doctor took me off cold turkey. They said I had autism, and eventually another psychatrist ruled that out as bs. Then getting older it became harder to get treatment in canada. I tried also zoloft, effexor, ativan, anafranil, luvox, now im on escitalopram 40mg and lyrica 400mg/d. Basically at this point if nothing works, they politely tell you to f off, yet people wonder why so many mental ill commit suicide. Never seen a neurologist, had ect, or any other treatments beside erp, and cbt. Lets be real, would seratonin really be responsible for these endless treatments they are blamed for, and ssri's fix it?

I was Misdiagnosed for 13 years with bipolar and found out I really had C-PTSD and it took a former holistic practioner to become my psychiatrist who assessed me in 15 minuets.
She left the practice and went back to the holistic way because she didn't like the offices rules and regulations.
    Cptsd
Which seems like depression, boderline, anxiety, and bipolar it's hard to be diagnosed.
It took me 13 years of psyciatrist who kept saying they "think"
    Instead of knowing.
In some cases I don't believe they know they're just testing us and finding out things through our trials and their error.
Why don't doctors use each other for testing purposes if they really cared for others conditions.
    1. Cosmetologist use each other.
    2.Phlebotomist learn from using classmates.
    3.Car companys have crash dummies.
But psyciatrist don't know how we feel inside except tell us it's easier to keep us on the same thing or add another which still builds up in your system overtime causing you us to decline.
I was a test dummy and been on everything.
I've gone cold turkey, tapered (which feels the same.)
Tapering just keeps you hooked longer and you'll wind up back where you've started because your body was use to the beginning dosage for so long.
You might feel like you're dying but it's more neurological than physical.
Withdrawls from mental "health" drugs to me feels like a anxiety attack. ( Feels like you're having a stroke or dying but you don't. )
You don't get the shakes like coming off of illegal drugs you feel like it but nobody can see you trembling on the outside.
It was in my head (some people you'd never knew I dealt with depression and trauma I hid it.)
What worked for me was self care, get away from toxic people, and exercise.
It's the same thing if you are addicted to illegal street drugs stop hanging around the same crowd or you'll end up back doing the same things.
People are normally depressed for a reason no one is born depressed.
No one is a little bipolar you're either type 1 bipolar or 2.
You do need meds for that.
It takes longer to repair from mental illness like depression or C-PTSD because trauma can rewire your braim itself.
*I have no doctors degree I was just abused from the age of 3 -32.
Im a certified test dummie with no pay, Im kind of like one those volunteer sleep study people who get paid like 100 dollars minus the $100.00

Newer studies show antidepressants rarely perform better than placebo.
Studies are often selectively published not showing the true information.
Side effects are common and almost guaranteed.
Studies also show your antidepressant will likely stop working at some point meaning the dose will need to be periodically increased and when you do quit you are much more likely to develop a more chronic longer lasting depression.
Dont jump in with anti-depressants because allot of the time they will do more harm than good, This is what ive seen in myself, friends and family also....

Excellent! The only thing I don't necessarily agree with is taking a patient off meds completely. At least it should be done in a controlled way, slowly, taper, patient has excellent self-care habits and knows how to get help if they need it, etc. I love everything else you had to say! As a patient it has taken years of doing my research, seeing numerous psychiatrists, etc. to learn all the stuff you talked about. Not every psychiatrist knows this, or practices these things. I'm glad you put this u-tube video up for everyone to see. I am a treatment resistant patient. I hate it. I do better on SNRI's. Although, I have never tried an MOAI inhibitor. I am on my second round of TMS. I am on about my 5th week of Fetzima. So far, I am feeling a lot better.

Hi Dr! Great video and very interesting as well as helpful. I have a complex case in which I had ulcerative colitis and had my large intestine removed and had a j pouch formed. I follow a fairly strict diet, and take vitamins (namely b, d3, probiotics,), and I struggle with chronic diarrhea which I use Imodium and cholestyramjne to help manage. My biggest struggles are heavy fatigue, long term chronic insomnia and of course managing the gi issues.
I have a really hard time falling asleep and when I went to a sleep study, I was told my pattern was indicative of depression. Interestingly enough, 2 of my sisters also have chronic insomnia and the 3rd is on lexapro.
When I visited a psychiatrist, we tried Remeron (made me even more sedated despite giving it a long time for possible tolerance and regardless of dose and it gave me increased diarrhea, trazadone didn’t seem to impact sleep at least on the doses of up to 100mg that I tried and at doses of 50/100, it made me so congested I laid awake on multiple pillows as if I had a bad cold, so that didn’t go very well, lexapro gave me substantial diarrhea for a week so we discontinued, Amitriptyline also left me sedated and dropped my blood pressure to 90/50. Interestingly, nortriptyline seemed to really help slow down the gut and left me feeling more energized and normal than I can recall. The one issue is it increased my resting pulse from 70 to 90-100 for 3 hours after taking it and then settled at around 80 for the rest of the day. I also felt like I had some chest discomfort but perhaps it was just from the heart rate issue. I told my psychiatrist and he suggested sticking to the nortriptyline because of the other failed attempts and said he’s only concerned with heart rates over 110 and to give it a chance to adjust. I was a bit concerned and stopped but wonder would another trial be warranted/recommended or would I be a better candidate for something like an mao or lithium? I’m 41 and outside of the mentioned issues, I have low cholesterol, don’t smoke/drink and am slightly underweight.
Im completely open to all possibilities and listening to your video gives me some hope that I should persist in achieving a better/happier way of life for myself. I’m fairly strong willed and optimistic yet I acknowledge the health issues have definitely impacted my mood and the sleepless nights spanning decades are tough on me.
Thank you so much for your help! It’s hugely appreciated and fascinating alike.

I am so sorry you have colitis. I was a nurse and before that I worked on a psychiatric unit. I am now suffering from chronic back pain. I got very depressed because of the chronic pain and not being able to socialize due to the pain. I did use antidepressants when I got real down. I think I got to feeling better but they messed me up sexually and I felt very tired and drugged up. I don't have colitis but I did suffer from very bad stomach pain for many years. It was intense. For me I don't like these antidepressants. How is your nutrient levels? If you can exercise and figure how to absorb a high nutrient diet, I think you may feel better and sleep better. Before my back problems I loved going to the gym. I used to lift weights. Just getting your endorphins going can make you feel a lot better. I think like me your depression is situational. Please understand I could be totally wrong. I am biased because I deal with the side effects of medications I know I have to take but I hate the idea of using a medication that doctors don't understand how it works but they want to give it to you because that is how they make their money and why not.

Really gotta do your homework , eventually it is always a risk taking meds. As time goes on meds will improve.

That's why I'm afraid to see a psych Dr. I've been depressed for years, used to get xanax from a friend when I was having serious difficulties. Knocked it out of the park, happy again. I've got a feeling that a Dr. will prescribe me that as soon as I win the lottery....twice. Disappointment does not help depression, I'm legitimately afraid of the nosedive I would take when the Dr. won't prescribe what I know works. I was prescribed 200mg of Trazodone daily for sleep. Can't say it even scratched the surface of my depression.

When I was 12, I was told I had depression, anxiety and Aspergers. I was prescribed Wellbutrin first. It didn’t work. Then they added Zoloft to it; that gave me seizures and permanent heart and liver problems. Then I was DNA tested, and taken off of those pills. My doctor retired and I was switched to a tele psychiatrist who doesn’t listen to her patients. She prescribed me Amitryptiline and Propranolol. The amitryptiline worsened my migraines and seizures, so I stopped taking it. Then the propranolol makes me itch so bad that it’s intolerable. I break out in hives and my whole body feels like I rolled in poison ivy and swallowed a burning razor blade every time I take it. I want to scratch myself open till I’m dead every time I take it. I have depression and had derealization/depersonalization like you. The derealization will go away on it's own with time as long as you work on your anxiety (main cause of derealization). Also, try not to focus on the derealization all the time (try to distract yourself by doing an activity you like such as music or sports or any hobby). I was first put on anafranil like you because I read on the internet that it may help. However, I eventually got off of that and switched to Trintellix, which improved my depression. One medication which helps derealization is naltrexone (i have no idea why) which actually got rid of my derealization while i was on it, but unfortunately it can make depression worse in some people (try a low dose if you want like 1-4mg). My derealization improved by around 80% after one month but has not improved any more since (it's been 4 years). My depersonalization however is completely gone.

    Is Psychiatry an Art ?
    Or a Science ?

    • @spidacal32
      @spidacal32 4 роки тому +3

Definitely not a science. Not even close. The body of evidence which shows any kind of efficacy for antidepressants is incredibly weak. In fact, many studies show that there is no statistically significant difference between SSRI's and placebo. But psychiatrists will never admit this, they'll never tell their patients about the terrible side effects or of the risks of taking them long term, which is the scenario which almost invariably plays out. It's legalized drug dealing. This coming from a former medical student and long-time psych patient. I know firsthand how physicians are educated, and I know how eager psychiatrists are to presribe even without reasonable cause. It's an incredibly corrupt system which operates solely on the basis of making money for pharmaceutical companies. Life after coming off psych meds can be absolute hell. Be very, very careful.

Im diagnosed with major depression and Anxiety. I took 9 different ADs, nothing helped. Till I took some russian ADs which work on totally different pathways. Since that Im better. Maybe you can tell me what you think about them? You just take them for 40 days and then stop intake. en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Fabomotizole Thank you for your video!

But what's really depression. I hear so much what's the real meaning of depression. How do I know I have depression. I have stress: irregular sleep and thinking a lot about the problem at work.

The only meaningful side effect that MAOIs actually have is total insomnia, but that is easily remedied with trazodone. All the other side effects are hype. There are virtually no recorded cases of the maoi "cheese effect" actually harming anyone.

I'd love to know how anyone with serious depression just waits a year or 2 to see if a medication starts to work. That sounds insane to me. We don't live forever. Personally I don't think antidepressants do anything other than plasebo effects. If anything actually worked, it would be a highly controlled substance.

All antidepressants are neurotoxins. The only benefit is long-term lifestyle changes. Put in the hard work and it pay's off. The only reason people get depressed is this shit house World we're living in. Most mental illness is a result of abuse of some kind. I found councilling and diet is the only relief after 26years of antidepressants. The Doc's don't tell you the hell of withdrawals either, I wouldn't wish that on my worst enemy.

    • @mudigowayed510

You know nothing about antidepressants. If you reduce them gradually there are no problems with withdrawal symptoms. I took Venlafaxine for 25 years and and got off the drug within 5 weeks. Venlafaxine helped me to live a normal life.

They don’t work because it’s not a chemical imbalance. Your life probably sucks or you have maladaptive thinking patterns or behaviors, no friends or support, no sense of purpose, no connection to nature, addicted to substances, debt, bad diet, sit all day, low social hierarchy, brain abnormalities developed from your relationship with your parents during formative years, etc. Good luck!

You know, it's really amazing to me, HOW VERY LITTLE MD'S know about HEALTH! Everyone knows y'all can't even utter the word heal. But the fact that no logic, problem solving, putting pieces together as to WHY anyone suffers. Do u think depression is caused by a PHARMACEUTICAL DEFICIENCY?!! I knw it's not. If u were honest u would agree. Why in the world Drs are ok with being a human drug dispensary.... I feel sorry for the poor patients that have been chemically destroyed by allopathic poison.

my research indicates the long term risks and withdrawal difficulties are vastly downplayed by conventional doctors. These drugs are effectively more addictive and dangerous than most street drugs, yet they are handed out as first line treatments for even mild mental dysfunction.
