Having heard so many weird screams and people calling my name even when in the end no one did now makes some sense… but I’ve always chalked it up to my ears being weird. Now I think there is a Mimic somewhere in my suburb or school. I’ve had so many experiences and a reason maybe for that is that my house it right next to a pretty tame park, and normally there can be some weird things coming from there, like odd dog calls or whatever.

When I was younger, I was making soup in my kitchen home alone, looked to the right and saw my mum peering at me from behind the wall to our lounge with wide eyes. I went cold because I knew she was at work. Checked the house to be double sure and there was no one there. Still makes me want to cry to this day.

Omg this is so sketchy, it gave me chills! Reading this totally just triggered a memory I have from when I was a kid, its a bit different from this story though, but, I was home with my grandmother after school just me and her and we were upstairs when I heard these garage door slam and my mother say "helloo" like she normally would. Excitedly I ran down the stairs saying "mommy your home!" to meet me mom by the door and say hello and hug her etc. When I got to the garage door she wasn't there. At first I thought " oh she went back into the garage cause she left something in her car" so I go peek out and her car isnt even in the garage, its closed, the lights are off and she is definitely not home yet. Even my grandmother heard her say "hello"...such a weird experience, I totally almost forgot about.

I’m a skeptic, but there’s one thing that happened when I was a kid that I just can’t explain. I was sitting in the backseat of the car while my parents ran into a fruit stand to grab a couple groceries. While I was sitting there I suddenly saw my mom appear next to my window, smiling unnaturally/creepily and looking down at me. I did a double take and she wasn’t there anymore, but instead I saw her standing inside the fruit stand. There was NO way she got back there that quickly in a split second. Maybe it was just a neuron misfiring but it still creeps me out thinking about it.

I actually figured out that I can trigger my brain into doing this by putting a jacket or other dark cloth on chair and pacing in circles ( or spinning around)

The only issue I have with mimics becoming a trend on tiktok is that since it can just look like a person, I wonder how many people are noping out of a situation where it’s just legitimately someone who might need some help. The soaked girl on the side of the road? Maybe she was just a girl and stopping to ask if she was okay might have been nice. Not every strange person is a mimic. I hope that people still realize that rather than sensationalizing it by filming and getting scared and running away from every strange person who looks in need of help that they see.

There's a video of a guy either on here or on TikTok laughing about how the tigers in his sanctuary were 'mooing,' when in reality, they are super intelligent creatures trying to lure their in-captivity favorite food over. So its completely appropriate to call them skin walkers without being native, she explained to me that skin walkers were mainly discovered by the native tribes and named by them, and its completely appropriate to call them skin walkers cause they wear other "skins" to deceive you and lure you in, as well as mimicking sounds. As they were driving there was some giant wolf/human hybrid on all fours keeping up with the car. They got up to 70+ mph and it wouldn't let up. They were scared to death, but whatever it was eventually ran away. To this day my uncle's cannot physically talk about it and it was my mom that told me the story. Later that night something tall was scratching against my and my husband's tent and it woke me up and I thought I was going to have a heart attack as I just laid there staring into the darkness trying to pretend to be asleep. Loey you’re so informed and thoughtful! I’m glad that you chose to not name them by name for the majority of the video. I think that we’re going see an uptick in sightings. The more we talk about them, the more they show up. They’re drawn to their name. Like when you call a dog. But much worse. Elders from my tribe discourage casually talking about them. It’s a really good to be informed on them and that’s why we pass the stories on. Unfortunately not just in heavily wooded areas anymore because of deforestation.
I’ve had people think that it sounds soo cool to see one and they purposely talked about them. Called out their name into the woods. One of those people ended up finding their beloved pet disembodied on their back porch. It’s not cool and they will kill you if they get close enough. Please take this as a warning. I cannot remember if she said my name or his, but he told me to stay close to him as he hurried with the last of his chores. We walked home as fast as we could to find a fire truck in front of our home. Mom was inside with a couple of neighbors and explained something happened to the furnace and there was a small fire but it was quickly taken care of. Okay so I am convinced that I had an encounter with a mimic when I was younger. So in a house that my family was renting, I saw one of my brothers walking upstairs to my room and then I heard him calling me from outside. I started to head outside when my big sister came running inside and grabbed me after she slammed the door behind her and locked it, she made sure to lock the windows and front door as well. And we went upstairs to my room where my brother was sitting on this rocking chair, watching a show on the tablet. We could hear what sounded like someone or something calling for us to come outside. My big sister called our mom on her phone and said that someone was trying to break in and my mom called the police who arrived in like five minutes. The thing left when the cops came and the cops checked the area and didn't find anyone. And when my mom came back with the other kids, she told us that from now on we were gonna stay with one of my aunt's instead. My big sister never said why she came running into the house. But it really scared her because she refused to let me sleep alone after that incident.

So my family is very traditional in Hispanic and some indigenous beliefs. One thing my family believes in full heartedly is when someone calls your name you never answer yes you have to either go find the person you heard and ask them if they called you or verify who it is by calling back the same question. It's believed that although "mimics" can copy someone's voice they can't just come in to your house if there isn't a way to get in. However, spirits who already reside in homes (in our belief) can use "mimics" tricks to let themselves into a person's body so saying yes gives them permission to come in. It's very scary and the last time I had an experience like this I was sitting on the couch watching my brother (who is 2) and we where home alone. I heard my mom call out to my brother over the sound of the TV so I paused the TV and picked up my brother. And just simply started reciting "your not welcome in my home" after a few minutes the voice literally yelled for me so I started saying it louder"your not welcome in my home" then my TV turned off and turned itself back on but after that it stopped and not even joking 20 minutes later my mom got home and asked if I used the Alexa system to make a announcement to my room. Most terrified I've ever been in my life.

I dont really know if this is a mimic experience or just a regular ghost. So my dads house is haunted af, the old lady who owned it before us died in the home and we experience stuff all the time, little things like things going missing from an obvious spot and suddenly appearing again out of the blue, music turning down volume by itself, shadows in the corner of our eyes etc. But this one thing REALLY spooked me, my dad and stepmom out real bad. It was late evening, the three of us watching tv whilst my younger siblings sleeping upstairs. Suddenly we hear a loud bang upstairs like something heavy fell over, footsteps running towards the strairwell and my little sisters voice softly calling out «daaaad, come here» so he went to check. She was in a deep sleep and nothing had fallen over. He came down looking really pale when he told us she was sleeping soundly. What makes it extra creepy is that the door to her room was shut, and so was the door from the hallway upstairs leading to the stairs. Those are loud doors so we would def hear them opening/closing with a very distinct sound. I did NOT sleep that night :^(

Also the fact that I have friends from so many different backgrounds and nationalities has helped that a lot. I do remember having many paranormal experiences as a child and even now in my late teen years. From seeing apparitions to hearing things to having things move and lights shut off and turn on by themselves. But I do distinctly remember about one of my indigenous friends coming over and we were just chillin in my room when we both heard my mom call us from downstairs. I looked at them and something just gave me chills, but we went anyway. She was in the kitchen and as we walked in and asked what was wrong she looked at us confused like "What do you mean? Is there anything you need?". We both told her we came down bc we heard her call us and she just shook her head and turned on some sage. We went back upstairs and that's the first and last time my friend mentioned skinwalkers. She told me that I should never talk about them or whistle at night because that's what summons them. I've had many similar experiences since, but I pay no mind unless I hear my full name being called in an angry way (that's how I know it's real). It's just so uncanny to me what some entities will do to try luring you.

I’ve heard of skinwalkers but never knew what they were, mimics are scary! I wonder if that finally explains my experience I had one time. I was young, around 9/10 and I was playing outside in my yard. It was a beautiful day and I laid down in the grass and just looked up at the sky for a few minutes while I was resting. All of a sudden I hear my name being called, but it was so weird because it was my voice calling my own name. So I sat up, no one was around my parents and siblings were off somewhere but it wasn’t them who called. So I laid back down, kinda like oh I imagined it. Well while laying down again, my name was called again. It was very soft this time, very sweet sounding. But my voice again. I didn’t get up though, I just laid there, closed my eyes and enjoyed listening to it. My explanation had always been an Angel was talking to be. My grandma had died around the time and I always assumed it was her talking to me through an Angel, calling my name. I never told anyone, nor has it ever happened again. It’s always perplexed me when thinking about it, but I never had a bad feeling from it.

I can honestly say that mimics scare me just as much as you. I first heard about them listening to scary story podcasts. They are the most terrifying thing I have ever heard of in my life. Mimics unnerve me more than anything else, and the way they've come up in media is pretty creepy, too. Barring the obvious ones--X-Files, I think, did an episode, and Supernatural did at least one--they've also shown up in Annihilation (creepy for more reasons than just the voice mimic), and recently in Lovecraft Country. It's a pervasive concept in at least US culture--us, but not us. Us, but Other. Us, but dangerous.

The same thing happened with my step dad except this time he shouted from the bottom of the stairs shouting "what" and I obviously didn't know what he meant then he said "you called my name! Didn't you?" So I responded with "no" and then he went back
I also have a few times where I heard my parents calling for me which I found strange because they'd always call me on the phone to let me know something just incase I didn't hear because I usually listen to music whilst doing work.

I was at my cousin’s house babysitting her son and daughter when I was a teenager and it was like summertime in the afternoon and the kids we’re supposedly outside playing in the yard when all of sudden her 10 year old son walked past me really fast and went into his bedroom. I followed him because I wondered why he came back into the house so fast. He didn’t say anything he just walked right into his room and into his walk in closet. For some reason I felt something was off about him so I followed him into his room and even looked into his walk in closet and there was nobody there! I was like wtf?! I turned and looked out his bedroom window and could literally see him and his sister playing in the yard outside. I was scared af. But I did notice that the “mimic” or “doppelgänger” or whatever it was was wearing a blue baseball cap and her real son wasn’t wearing a hat or cap at all. One of the weirdest things I’ve seen.

the only possible paranormal experience i've had could be considered a mimic encounter even though i never actually saw it... i had my back turned to my front door and was on the desktop in 2004. It was not long after i had gotten home from school and no one else was there yet. My dad walked in the front door (i was in the sunken living room at the far end of our house with the front door to my back, two smalls steps going up to the dining room was all the separated me from that entryway. As he walked in, he said his usual "hey bug" and walked directly to his room, into his attached master bathroom and i assumed he was getting ready to shower. I need to point out that i had headphones on one hear and didnt turn around when he entered. I only threw my hand up to wave while continuning my homework on the compuer. My mom called not long after and asked if my dad got a ride from work or if she needed to pick him up. I told her he was already home. Less than a half hour later, the door swung open behind me again and my mom walks in..... then my dad walks in with her. They both start giving me a playful hard time. She tells me that she is glad my dad called where she worked when he did because she was on her way out the door to come home thinking he was already here. I was so confused. I didnt even speak to them. I jumped straight up, ran to their room that i was now realizing was still shut and dark like no one had been in there. I ran into the bathroom. Nothing. No one in my brothers room. or my room. Or the other bathroom. I felt the strong urge to get out of the house and sit on the porch. It was frightening for a second then we all laughed it off and just assumed i had mistaken some passing sound as the door opening and my dad speaking to me.
It wasn't until this past year or two that i started considering that perhaps this was a mimic/skinwalker/doppleganger.

I've had things like this happen to me since I was a kid, where I would hear my own voice, my parent's voices, or other voices calling my name at night. I usually never saw anything, and found my parents weren't calling me, so I started ignoring the voices. Turns out I have narcolepsy and experience audio hallucinations, and occasionally visual hallucinations which I thought were paranormal experiences. Things get super trippy when you have narcolepsy, lots of questioning your reality. I think a lot of spooky experiences actually come from our brains acting up in weird ways, but I still think anything is possible.

My sister and her best friend were out getting ice cream and my parents were downstairs watching tv while I was upstairs listening to music on my Walkman and ironing clothes for school the next day. I could see the upstairs hallway from the ironing board. I was just singing along to my music and chilling, when I suddenly saw a girl with blonde hair run down the upstairs hallway into my sister’s bedroom. I assumed it was my sister and her best friend (who was blonde and similar build/outfit to the girl I’d seen) home early so I took off my headphones and called out their names. No answer. I stepped out into the hallway- no one was there. Checked my sister’s bedroom- empty with the lights out. My parents were both still downstairs. I’m in NC and never knew what I and my mom (two different instances within a couple months apart) went through was a mimic. It was in our house this was about 10 years ago now & even thinking back on what happened gives me the creeps. For me I woke up to hearing my parents arguing back/forth then yelled for me, I got up out of bed and went down stairs to a empty quiet house. I looked everywhere for them before seeing the car gone, I called them & locked myself in my room until I knew it was really them back home. My dad is a total skeptic so he blamed it on the TV but I checked & nothing was on (I also know my parents voices). Then a couple months later the same happened with my mom, she said she heard me/my dad arguing when she woke up then came to check on us. Of course when she walked out we weren’t there, we were otw home from church. Glad to finally know other people have s experienced the same things I guess but I don’t think it was a skinny (since they’ve been compared in this) but something like it.

But seeing that the garage was empty he went inside the house and saw my grandmother was in the kitchen. I was also in a hallway and i thought i also heard my grandmother, but i was from upstairs and she was still in the kitchen, downstairs.
Anyways, my mom and aunt came home and mentioned that there was a large dog that they saw walking under a lamppost. But it looked wrong.
