New Store = Same Story? February Ammo Hunt

  • My apologies for yesterday. I messed up the file.
    WAY too many individual offerings to detail individually, but they did have some options that just aren't available anywhere else in town.
    More options are always better, but seeing that the prices are pretty much the same across the board, the state of ammo prices in store is pretty depressing.

    Nice to see all that ammo, even if it is more than I want to pay...gotta remember a couple years ago, people lined up at stores hoping for the truck to bring something...so, availability first, then worry about the pricing...our local big box is advertising 10 cent mini-mags, sale starts tomorrow, I'll probably grab a couple boxes...the big deal for us right now is 9mm fmj at 12.99 a box, that is a half decent price (we buy nothing online), at a local gunshop...but yeah, like seeing lots of ammo...

    • @andrewmconrad
      @andrewmconrad  Рік тому +2

      That’s a decent price for 9mm. Always a threat from the current administration to keep the ammo prices up high. Hopefully it doesn’t last for ever, but just like a lot of things, this could be “the new normal”

    Having a wide selection of ammo is nice! Being priced well that’s priceless.
    I remember when there was competition which kept prices reasonable.

      It was, back in the day when Walmart actually carried pistol rounds. Once their competition was gone the local academy sold the same thing for $179. Their decision with other companies that treated firearms owners with disdain is the reason prices went up and supply went down.

    Federal’s parent company Vista Outdoors who owns a lot of companies that cater to the big box stores and let the LGS die on the vine.
    For example, Alliant powder is only available to certain mega vendors like Brownells, Scheels, Academy, etc.
    Here in Houston Academy has a lot of Federal and CCI primers at $100/1000 plus 8.25% sales tax.
    Academy has a monopoly on primers because they buy a LOT. Of Vista Outdoors products.
    8:04
    My LGS cannot get any Alliant Powder nor any primers from his wholesaler.
    Luckily we can get Hodgdon powders but Federal primers are scarce and expensive.
    Thank you vista for making the shooting sports too expensive for the average working person.

    • @wackzingo
      @wackzingo Рік тому

      You're mistaken. The reason prices haven't dropped yet is the manufacturers are still working 24/7 to fill backorders from the pandemic so from their end they haven't seen a drop in sales. What you're seeing now on the shelf is ammo that was ordered 1-2 years ago and is just now hitting shelves. After they work through the backorder and have to deal with much lower orders, prices will drop. It's just a fact of economics and the law of supply & demand.

    I think there is a Sportsmans Warehouse in S.C., near Charleston? So, I hope they put one near Atlanta soon, too. Thanks for the review.

    Man where I live ammo is still SCARCE. Even for a 20 round box of 5.56 they’ll be charging 35.99 for Federal. Prices are crazy.

    Ouch. You'd think they would at least try to be competitive with online sellers. Even paying for S&H, there's better deals out there, and that's not even buying full cases.

  • @wackzingo
    @wackzingo Рік тому

    It's Sportsman's not Sportsman. It's not owned by Bass Pro / Cabelas and never will be because it would create a monopoly so the FTC blocked it. The good news about the high ammo inventory is it tells us demand at these prices is low which means ammo prices will have to come down eventually according to the law of supply and demand. It's not a matter of if but when prices will drop assuming we don't have another event that triggers a run on ammo.

    • @andrewmconrad
      @andrewmconrad  Рік тому

      Yes, when I did the quick search and saw that I didn’t scroll further to see that the deal was aborted. I will probably mix up the two because we have a Sportsman’s Warehouse and a Sportsman Wholesale down here 😂

    Wow !!!! Even in California , yes !! Commiefornia prices are way lower than those ..... for people living East of the Continental Divide no , it's not that exaggerated like some gun channels in the tube say it is , we are able to purchase firearms and ammo (with some Unconstitutional restrictions, but we're still in the fight for our rights ) Pray for us 🙏🏼🙏🏼🙏🏼

    This is what’s happening. I know a dozen online retailers way way cheaper. Do your homework. Some have free shipping. Big box stores all about huge profits. With diesel prices so high a large part of that ammo price is the shipping cost. The retailer don’t want to make less so they pass that on to us. Easy answer pass…. Take that Winchester 7.62x39. Clearly says target ammo. Crazy they even put that out. Expect dust on that one. Things have changed. Online way to go now.

    More kayak fishing videos

    • @andrewmconrad
      @andrewmconrad  Рік тому

      I definitely plan on making more kayak videos. My goals on the channel is not to be some one dimensional. I’d love to have a few topics that I regularly post about. The ONLY problem with fishing is it’s long day for 1, maybe 2, videos, whereas I can go to the range for 2 hours and get 3 or 4 videos done.
