My steering was busted loose also. I was planning on doing something similar, but fiberglassing the supports in. I got my hydrocycle apart right now, separated the bottom and top to do some fiberglass work and I gotta put new wood on the transom.
I don’t have that scoop off the back, that’s kinda cool. What year is that one? Mine is a 69, I got a freshly rebuilt 33hp 69 evinrude skitwin for it.
Lemme ask you, on yours, the floor where you put your feet, is it all warped? Mine is, and every one I’ve seen is too. Drives me nuts, I might cut all the warp out and refiberglass that too.
On mine the seam was bad in places and all the rub rail is dented and rivets coming loose... I gotta fix both sides of the entire seam to get rid of all the old rivet holes. Gonna really beef up the seam and get new rail and rubber, and address the steering while I’m in there.
Mine also has spiderweb cracks all over the entire gelcoat of the top, so I gotta get some resin on it and spend some time sanding, then paint...
Sounds like a lot, but the hard part is done, separating the boat without ruining it...
I’m gonna subscribe and follow along, hopefully I can find motivation to get mine going... it was sittin in a field for like 40 years...

Lol , yea i thought i reconised the name , from what ive been told its a 78, but it mite be earlier , no warping in the footwells, but mine has boards down the inside glassed in which joins the top shell to the lower half, the scoop at the back was a later addition from what i can gather, it was apparently raced at some stage , im guessing for wind resistance and keeping the water off the motor, seems to work, still havent decided if im going to remove it yet as it makes a good back rest for a passenger, i still have to put my bump edging back around mine, just need to find a couple of corners to pin it at the back

Sorry iv been away from it a bit due to a bathroom reno taking up more time than expected, strangely enough about a month ago i found another hydrocycle hiding in the back blocks of nsw, 6 1/2 hour drive there, 7 1/2 hours drive back, lol, just up the road lol, so i now have two , this ones much earlier tho, i guy used to race it with a 40hp, recons it was insanely fast, it does have a steering wheel and morse cable for steering tho, not sure how that would go as i like the throttle on the handlebars to get on and off the juice, a steering wheel means forward controls and limited throttle response, il make a little video tomorrow and post it up 👍😃
