@@ThisIsMyFullName yeah now that you put it like that, it might be so. Maybe nobody believed her, but NOW that Coop is alive and can explain, they don't have any choice

He isn't going to execute plan B. Plan A has worked and all of humanity is on its way to Brand's planet. But, Brand does not know this because she has no communications with Earth after the destruction of the Endurance. As far as Brand knows Plan A failed and everyone on Earth died. Cooper is going ahead to let Brand know that both he and the population of Earth have survived.
Why would they need to execute plan B? They got people off of earth and are all heading to the new planet together. He’s going ahead of them to either get brand and bring her back to one of the stations or just stay with her and wait for the rest of the population to get there. The fact, that an open mind gets to play with so many possibilties, is what made science fiction my favorite genre in literature when I was a kid. That was about half a century ago. It is still my favorite genre today, but in all the entertainment media forms. It is always a pleasure to see that open mindness in others too.
Anne Hathaway got the role because when they were filming The Dark Knight Rises, Nolan was telling everyone about that exciting new idea he had for his next movie, and she was the only one who wasn't completely confused by what he was talking about.
During the water planet scene there’s ticking noise every 1.25 seconds, every tick represents a day passing on earth…I thought that was a pretty cool touch by Christopher Nolan
As to your question about the ending with Murphy’s children, Nolan deliberately created an ambiguous ending. One theory is Cooper might have actually died falling into the black hole. The Mann theory about seeing your children before you die, may have been prophetic. The fact that Cooper survives falling into the back hole, arrives in a tesseract, changes earths fate, gets saved with only minutes left and meets his daughter, surrounded by a mysterious, almost dreamlike family that doesn’t interact, implies that it may be his last vision before his own passing. I don’t agree with the theory for one reason. Cooper reaches out for Brand in the wormhole, on his way back to Saturn. If he didn’t survive the black hole, he wouldn’t have been there to reach out to her in the first place. Just my opinion.
Also when dying and seeing your children, why have the moment of him jumping in a ship to meet Brand, that’s an active and life affirming action, not a fade to black.
Another way to read it is 'they' are the descendants from Brand's colony. Cooper goes back with TARS (who still has the data from the black hole). They evolve into a far more advanced human than those on earth.
@@jsbrads1 I agree that would seem like really pointless extra scenes if he was already dead and rather the last goodbye going off on another adventure.
yeah, he survives the entry into the black hole becasue a black hole of that size has in theory a event horizon bigger then it's spagettifcation range and if fell along the edge of it could survive for a while.
I’ve watched this movie like over 20+ times cause I always find new little details that make the story even better than it already is. But never once did I notice the robot says “please don’t make me” right before blowing up. 40:50 This movie continues to amaze me 10 years later, since the release of it. I can’t wait to see this in theaters again in September.
Fun fact: The robot Kipp was named after theoretical physicist Kip Thorne who was the science consultant on the film. That's why the science in the movie was so realistic
I predicted it as soon as they had the first handshake during the wormhole scene. To be fair, my brain has been trained to spot this kind of stuff by reading hundreds of sci-fi novels, especially old ones, as a teenager. Sci-fi isn't just about spacecraft and aliens, if you dig into some of the more obscure sides of sci-fi you can find some absolutely wild plots with batshit insane (but still mostly internally coherent) world building. Some sub-genres of sci-fi are the wild west, having the revelation of "the aliens helping us were actually humans from the future" is nothing compared with "the aliens we were fighting turned out to be experiencing time backwards, and when we rounded them all up to nuke them we actually caused their birth as a species, because their end from our perspective was their beginning from theirs" which is an actual plot twist I read in an actual old novel (it was never translated in English, so I'm not too worried about spoiling it)
Interstellar and Inception are on a completely different level than just about everything. They're so cerebral and intellectually honest and compelling. It's a real trick to make content this heady and conceptual into something so stimulating, so relatable and sharply written. Nolan is a freaking genius filmmaker.
Black holes are by far my favorite thing in existence to talk about. They are far more strange and interesting than they could portray in the movie. Absolute extremes of nature with properties that warp the way we see the universe (literally). They used mountains of scientific data to digitally construct the black hole Gargantua in the movie, giving us the most realistic simulation of what the area around a black hole would look like to the naked eye. Not long after this movie released, we got our first REAL picture of a black hole and it was basically a 1-for-1 comparison. It's so satisfying to know that the science we understand exactly lines up with the objective reality.
Note the chord played when Murph discovers the message behind "STAY". It signifies Coop and Murph's connection with each other (their love/graviry bond). Fun fact: it's the same chord played when Coop realises he needs to go to Brand. They also have the same love/gravity bond. Which is why he was able to have that "first handshake" with her.
Another thing I never hear anyone mention is that, at the end when Murph says "no parent should have to watch their own child die," she's definitely thinking about her brother & Jesse in that line.
at the end, for an unexplained reason, the earth-stations like cooper station have not yet jumped through the wormhole into the new galaxy. They're orbiting saturn. I assume they're planning on going through eventually and colonizing edmund's planet, but they haven't done it yet. Cooper leaves to go meet up with Brand early.
@@reactswithjax There might be issues bringing a whole station through. Also, they weren't receiving signals through the wormhole, so they wouldn't have known that there was a livable planet on the other side until Cooper returned. All they knew, at that point, is that several people had gone through the wormhole and never returned. I always figured that with Cooper's return and confirmation of a livable planet, they would start planning to relocate everyone to the new planet (which would probably take years and years). Cooper simply went ahead of them to help Brand start a colony and prepare their new home for the arrival of the rest
Yeah, they probably need real confirmation that Edmunds' planet is actually habitable. Only Dr. Brand really knows at that point. So Cooper is going there to meet up with her to get the confirmation so the migration to Edmunds' planet can begin. Brand also doesn't know that Cooper was able to successfully obtain the necessary quantum data and relay it back to Earth. So she's set up camp and is putting Plan B into effect.
This movie is in my top 10 all time and have seen countless times.. But I have never heard/noticed KIPP(the other robot)say "Please, don't make me..". It gave me chills honestly. I googled it and it's possible KIPP is saying "please, don't make me go outside", but I think KIPP has actually been rigged to explode by Dr. Mann to maybe protect his secrets, and KIPP doesn't want to harm a human, but KIPP can't help it. "Please, don't make me".

Fun fact: Christopher Nolan planted 500 acres of corn just for the film because he did not want to CGI the corn in during scenes moving through the fields. After filming, he sold the corn and made back profit for the budget.
Not just that. He consulted agriculture experts and picked a location to film that is farther north in Canada than corn can be grown as a viable crop, because he wanted the corn to look distressed.
I use to know Morse Code when I was a young man practicing to take my FCC Class C license (which allowed modifications and repair of High-end Radio equipment), but I never took the test since I gained admission as a Cadet in the U.S. Air Force Academy. I eventually became Certified as a Computer Security Systems Profession (CISSP) and a licensed Professional Engineer in Computer Engineering. That led to my becoming an expert in Binary, Octal, and Hexadecimal, which are at the heart of all computer hardware and software. Honestly, your sense of wonder during this film, and your shock when you realized that he was the one behind the bookshelf, so to speak, wonderful. So entertaining. Btw, I also thought it was kind of unrealistic that his grand kids, great grandkids...etc, werent absolutely floored that Cooper came back, not sure why they made that writing choice. Either way, this is my second favourite Nolan movie after Inception - cant wait to see that one. Again, thank you for another fantastic reaction!
You should definitely watch (If you haven't already): Arrival The Martian The Abyss Sorta, kinda, tangentially similar to this one if Interstellar and 2001 had kids. Sort of, lol. Anyway, these are 3 excellent movies.
38:38 " 'Your _next_ kid to die.' That's Coop, not Jesse." Yes! I'm so glad you caught that! So many first-time viewers miss it and it's so important to the emotional landscape there.
In an interview with Matt Damon (Who was in "Interstellar" and "The Martian")...he had serious doubts about following one "desperate marooned astronaut" role with ANOTHER "desperate marooned astronaut" role....but he was great in both of them.
There’s a term in writing (I don’t know if it’s a real term but I’ve heard it and I like it) that says “you can do your exposition while walking,” and this movie absolutely does that.
Btw. That "stupid poem" is actually quite a powerful piece of writing. I listen to it myself from time to time. It laments the fact that even a powerful influential man will die. It ties into my own life and honestly helps me cry sometimes when I need a good cry. It was written about the authors father dying. "Rage against the dying of the light. Curse, bless me now with your fierce tears." I don't know if a single piece of literature that could ever come closer to describing how my father died on a cold muddy hillside in the middle of nowhere with me unsuccessfully doing CPR for almost an hour until paramedics could get to us. Not that it's important but I would consider my old man as one of the most powerful and influential men I've ever known. Before I was born he was a founding member of a motorcycle club (yes the famous one you're thinking of) and had moved literal tons of drugs across borders for people. Maybe his choices weren't the best but it at least brings me peace that people who do incredible things with their lives will still die on a random muddy hilltop just enjoying their 4wd vehicle.

Living in the west coast, every time I go to the beach I look at the horizon from the end of a dock and try to imagine waves the size of mountains, the kinetic forces they would drive those waves, and how thew would sweep us as if we were not even there. It's fascinating and terrifying.

To what you asked about Mann, yes they mentioned he was the best of us. Saying even the best of man is flawed and can be the worst of us. There’s a better explanation out there on UA-cam but you’re right to suspect his last name is symbolic.
35:54 "A 'gentle' black hole?!?" Actually, yes. I don't remember if they said it in the uncut film, but essentially it's a black hole that doesn't force you to undergo the aptly named "spaghettification" 🍝 on entry. Thus gentle!

I love the fact you caught on love being the powerful force driving this story. Some people knock on it for the force not being something more scientific but honestly, I think it's wonderful. Besides, there's an plenty of other scientific principles/concepts being utilised throughout the movie. It's my favourite Nolan movie.
Old Murph: I knew you’d comeback Coop’: How? Old Murph: …because my dad promised me. 😭😭😭 FINALLY!!! Firmly Christopher Nolan’s best movie to date. Memento is Nolan’s first movie and very underrated. I highly recommend it

The people in the beginning of the movie are real interviews from people who lived through the Dust Bowl in the early 1900s. Nolan said it’s added to the authenticity of the situation they were in.
Yes do it, highly recommend this. I went to the London show in 2022 at the 02 and it was absolutely amazing. He's touring Europe again in 2025 through 2026 so they'll probably have a few shows in France and England and maybe even Ireland
When Coop gets the messages from his son and daughter, his son introduce him to his grandson. When he mentions his grandfather's death, they mention he was buried next to the wife and another person. The other person has the same name as the grandson.
Great reaction! I like that, ultimately, this film is about the triumph of family and connection over cold science and rationality. All of the lack of attachment and disconnection from others harmed the mission in the end, and it was only Cooper's love and attachment to his daughter that solved everything. People make fun of this film for "love solving everything", but really it's just that Cooper was able to save everybody BECAUSE of the love he had for his family that drove him to push through where others (like Dr Mann) gave up. Who in their right mind would willingly go into a black hole? Someone who was trying every option possible to get back to his family, and the bulk beings use that to their advantage. Also, because Murph loved Cooper and her family so much, she returned to the house to help Tom and his kids and found the watch from Cooper, creating the bridge that was needed. I think Brand's speech about love confuses people because she's sort of meta about it, so they start to think about it being an actual measurable force like gravity is, but really it's just that attachment to people is actually a GOOD thing and something to be desired.
The data to solve gravity equation is right there in Murph's bedroom all these years right after when Cooper left home. Even when the adult murph took the watch from the box, she looks at it, smiles at itz (coz her dad gave) thinks that the second hand is twitching due to damage coz she had thrown it out of anger when her dad left. But after recreating the incidents that happened in her childhood, after realising it was her dad who communicates through gravity, then she looks at the watch to only understand that the second hand is not twitching exactly it's just moving coz of gravity.❤ Once the movie ended, I felt like as if I've woken up from a good sleep or after a deep meditation. Once in a lifetime experience this movie is
For some rediculous reason..I love the tidbits here and there that you find amusing…like Cooper’s…No, it’s necessary..your eyes did that little, crinkly thing…which surprised me..but…anyway…yeah..that was somehow adorable…don’t quite know how to put that sequence into words…but at that moment…it worked..
The cool thing is that when you look at everything that TARS says and jokes about, he gives it away that he didn't have to do anything if he didn't want to. And because he did some things and he and CASE kept it a secret, they saved the mission.

I can't say with any high degree of confidence that space travel would be like sailing, but for a long sea voyage you usually acclimatize after a couple of days so you only need medication for a short time. I've tried 21 days at sea and after 36 hours I was OK. I did get one little spell of sea sickness after spending a couple of hours in the galley over a hot stove during a particularly rough weather day.

OMG how did you figure out so much of what's going on in the movie in real-time?! It amazing that you figured out that it's the astronaut crew themselves communicating from the future. You're a genius! When Interstellar originally came out I think critics rated the movie lower than it deserves purely due to the fact that they couldn't understand what was going on, even after finishing watching it!

Jonathan Nolan (Chris Nolan's brother) wrote the script where this movie ends when Cooper goes into the black hole to die. Chris saw the ending and said it will be too bleak of an ending (although realistic), and added the new ending you see with tesseract and Cooper surviving, meeting his daughter, and going to meet Brand on Edmund's planet (and possibly live as a couple).
One of my favorite movies of all time. Fun fact: the black hole they created in the film was before we really saw one from the pictures we where able to start taking and really they’re not technically pictures. So they go very close and damn near spot on with a black hole design before knowing what it actually looked like. Also how absolutely fire is that line “no it’s necessary”?
19 minutes in and you're constantly expecting this movie to turn into a horror movie with monsters and man-eating aliens and such. Hollywood has ruined you. Yeah, many sci-fi movies have trained us to fear the unknown. Luckily, courageous men and women face those fears and venture into the unknown anyway. So far, the history of space travel hasn't revealed any man-eating aliens. Not even any butt-probing crop-circling aliens. Yet. Just space. Space is dangerous enough. This movie shows you some reasons why.
My younger cousin _adored_ this film, which I get because it's a great movie, but she was so annoyed when I sent her a text at the beginning of the movie while watching saying, "Her dad is the 'ghost,' right?" lol I didn't know how or why, but I wasn't surprised. Still a fantastic film.
There was a reason Murphy Cooper’s children and grandchildren had no reaction to seeing Cooper. It was because Cooper died and the final scenes were a fantasy. Much like “An occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.”
That’s the only explanation that makes sense to me. The final scene was his dying moments ‘seeing his children’, as Dr Mann said. The mind creating its own happy ending.

It's not Coopers house, it's a recreation of Murphy's house, meant to teach kids about how Cooper Station was made. It's basically a museum, with a paved trail leading up to it. Remember, Cooper left over 90 years ago, so his past is now a part of history and Murphy is probably seen as a celebrity similar to Einstein. Everyone only knows who Cooper is, because Cooper is Murphy's dad. However, having been found floating around in space on his own has probably turned Cooper into a celebrity now lol
@@ThisIsMyFullName yeah now that you put it like that, it might be so. Maybe nobody believed her, but NOW that Coop is alive and can explain, they don't have any choice

To clarify, Cooper isn't going to save Brand per se. He's going to make a life with her and execute plan B.
Or just to give her the option to live any more other than one alone on that planet. It’s ambiguous and that’s ok.
Well that's the same thing.
Cause she’s out of fuel and was barely able to get there, and is also under the impression that they failed completely and that she’s the only person left alive
its literally the planet earth is headed to
Between Saving Private Ryan, The Martian, and this movie the government has spent an awful lot of money trying to rescue Matt Damon.
And he always manages to get stuck in unfamiliar worlds!😂
A comment for the ages, you speak the truth!
Here’s how he broke it down among Damon’s films:
“Courage Under Fire (Gulf War 1 helicopter rescue): $300k
Saving Private Ryan (WW2 Europe search party): $100k
Titan A.E. (Earth evacuation spaceship): $200B
Syriana (Middle East private security return flight): $50k
Green Zone (US Army transport from Middle East): $50k
Elysium (Space station security deployment and damages): $100m
Interstellar (Interstellar spaceship): $500B
The Martian (Mars mission): $200B

What a great touch!

Everybody always wants to be the first to drop this comment
I was wondering that myself. Just watched it for the first time with my daughter a couple days ago. We both cried.
I agree with this
Also when dying and seeing your children, why have the moment of him jumping in a ship to meet Brand, that’s an active and life affirming action, not a fade to black.

Some sub-genres of sci-fi are the wild west, having the revelation of "the aliens helping us were actually humans from the future" is nothing compared with "the aliens we were fighting turned out to be experiencing time backwards, and when we rounded them all up to nuke them we actually caused their birth as a species, because their end from our perspective was their beginning from theirs" which is an actual plot twist I read in an actual old novel (it was never translated in English, so I'm not too worried about spoiling it)
@@brodericksiz625 wow. could you please tell me where this is from?
Which is why he was able to have that "first handshake" with her.

at the end, for an unexplained reason, the earth-stations like cooper station have not yet jumped through the wormhole into the new galaxy. They're orbiting saturn. I assume they're planning on going through eventually and colonizing edmund's planet, but they haven't done it yet. Cooper leaves to go meet up with Brand early.
Oooh, for some reason I assumed they had gone through the wormhole!

Fun fact: Christopher Nolan planted 500 acres of corn just for the film because he did not want to CGI the corn in during scenes moving through the fields. After filming, he sold the corn and made back profit for the budget.
Actually that corn field was given to him by Zack Snyder which he used in Man of Steel.
And *that* is what separates the poseurs from actual Production Value.
Not just that. He consulted agriculture experts and picked a location to film that is farther north in Canada than corn can be grown as a viable crop, because he wanted the corn to look distressed.

I've easily watched this film 50+ times. It never gets old.

But after recreating the incidents that happened in her childhood, after realising it was her dad who communicates through gravity, then she looks at the watch to only understand that the second hand is not twitching exactly it's just moving coz of gravity.❤
Once the movie ended, I felt like as if I've woken up from a good sleep or after a deep meditation.
So the little girl is Mackenzie Foy she was the "baby" in Twilight. She was also in The Nutcracker but not many people saw that one.

Much like “An occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge.”
That’s the only explanation that makes sense to me. The final scene was his dying moments ‘seeing his children’, as Dr Mann said. The mind creating its own happy ending.
Thanks for this great reaction Jax. You shine a lot and I like it so much!!
This one was amazing in IMAX...
First movie i ever went to see twice in IMAX.
59:00 Dr Mann's first name was Hugh, which is so interesting when you reflect on how he explained why Plan A was necessary.
Jax, you need to watch Matthew McConaughey again in Tropic Thunder. That movie will definitely cheer you up 😊.
💯
That one just hit my Patreon as a full reaction...it will be coming to YT soon!

Thanks Jax!!
Adore your reactions, absolutely LOVE your smile and can't get enough of your laugh❤. You're also correct in the awareness that solitude and loneliness are two sides of the same coin. Solitude can be a choice but loneliness is a consequence. But loneliness doesn't have to be a life sentence. You're such a lovely woman it breaks my heart💔 to think of you ever feeling lonely😢,
