    My daughter has tried all the diets out there over the years. She went to a weight loss doctor to discuss going on one of the glp-1 weight loss drugs. Due to the shortage of the drugs, the doctor put her on Contrave which works differently than the glp-1 drugs. It has been a godsend for her. Since beginning in May, she is down 40 pounds. In conjunction with the drug, she has upped her protein intake and also practices calorie deficit dieting. The food noise for her is way down and for the first time in her life (she's 47), she feels in control. She has never wanted to undergo weight loss surgery and she feels with Contrave she has the tool that is working for her. She sees the weight loss doctor once a month and is monitored.

    I was just about to recommend IF when you said you were ditching it. I'm sorry it didn't work for you. I did paleo and lost quite a bit of weight but gained some (but not all-yay) back. After being stagnant for a few years, I started IF and lost the last 50ish pounds. And (this is the amazing part) I have kept my weight in the "healthy" zone for about two years. I think it was back in the early 90s I was at this weight range for a few months, otherwise I've been overweight or obese since college in the late 70s. But you have to do what works for you, a method that you will be able to continue forever, not just to lose weight.
    I haven't said it before, but I am so impressed that you can (and do) bike the way you do.

      I lost 20 pounds on IF last year (July-March) but since then, have gained back 14 of it and am having a rough time fully getting back on IF. Not giving up though...

    I lost 20 pounds on IF last year (July '23 - March '24), but since then, have gained back 14 of it. My IF journey got off track, first due to a stream of constant house guests in March (we live in South Florida, so family always wants to visit when it's bitter up north) so I was not sticking to the protocol as I cooked and entertained. That was immediately followed by a 5 week cruise (yes, 5 weeks) in April and May that made keeping to my IF schedule a bit challenging. I have since had a very rough time getting fully back on IF. But I'm not giving up on IF, as I did feel so much better when I was lighter -- and most, importantly, my metabolic numbers were the best they've been in decades.

    I can relate to your dreaded moments at the doctor. Not the gown part as, except for the Women's Center where they are all now one-size soft cotton ones, doctors down here all seem to use scratchy paper things that don't have sizes. But the BP cuff change -- oh yes. Even after I had lost a bunch of weight on IF and other offices did not . But my most dreaded moment, and the one that haunts me for weeks before I go, is having to get on that scale (even though I fully know what it'll say because I weight myself daily).

    Love your new haircut and color! I was given progesterone to help me sleep, but it did the opposite (I’m perimenopause not menopause). I let the doctor know after trying her recommendation for 2 months. I’m glad I said something. She checked a different hormone called DHEA-S. And it was low. I’ve never heard of it, but I switched to a DHEA and my sleep improved. I’m so glad I spoke up because before I would keep trying until I quit and then wait for another year. Thanks for your honesty!

    I’ve never enjoyed exercise but at 71 I’ve finally found something I enjoy and can stick to! I’ve been doing ‘Nordic Walking’. Walking with trekking poles. It’s supposed to be better for you and burns more calories! I go to a huge old cemetery (weird I know) but it’s beautiful and quiet…no traffic and makes you grateful to be alive!! I see some other walkers every day. It’s in the middle of a mid size city and there are huge old trees and some wildlife! Foxes in particular are so fun to see! I enjoy it so much, I just had to share!

    I started this same routine of estrogen patch and progesterone pill a few months ago. It made a huge difference in getting me a better nights sleep. Using my insurance, the progesterone was kinda pricy. The pharmacist tried running it through Visory Health. From $141 for a 3 month supply to $22 !!!! Insurance is not always the cheapest. BTW did your doctor do a blood test for your hormone levels before changing your meds? Best way to check them. Hope the new meds help. In less than a week I could tell the difference. Good luck.

    Hi Bobbie I'm 64 and have tried various diets most of my life with mixed success. I am a type 2 diabetic and even with that as incentive weight loss is really hard. I go to the gym 3 times a week and also do some walking but it's so hard. With all the biking you do you must at least be fit.I have issues sleeping and I do believe it's perimenipausal related. My doctor after I suggested has put me on melatonin tablets and it seems to help.I haven't had to use HRT but have been close but am back on medications that helps hot flushes. I thought they had stopped, but no. Oh to feel normal. Sheryl

    My longtime hair salon closed a little over a year ago, and my longtime stylist decided to not continue doing hair. Thus began my search for a new stylist who would do justice to my long wavy/curly, aging (I am 68) and thin in places on top hair. And I live in South Florida where frizz is a real issue - especially if you have curly hair. I decided to try the stylist at Great Clips who had been giving my husband and son really good cuts -- and she turned out to be as good as my former stylist for less than half the price. She has now cut my hair 3 times and each has been very good. Admittedly, there's no ambiance at Great Clips but I'm OK with it.

    Hi Bobbie, I'm also on a weight loss journey and you have inspired me to cycle. Can you recommend a reasonably priced bicycle for middle-aged overweight woman like myself?. I'm not really sure even what is a good brand or if it really matters. Many many years ago when my girls were little I tried to ride with them and always got discouraged because found it so painful the seat. I mean, I'm sure there are better seats I can purchase for a bike. My husband said he would go with me. We're hoping to find something on Facebook market. Any tips you can share would be helpful. Thank you so much! Love your channel. I'm always inspired by your honesty and helpful tips on makeup and home. And by the way, you have the most amazing smile. I've never seen more beautiful teeth. • @MindfulMidlife
      @MindfulMidlife  8 днів тому +1

      Reasonably priced is very subjective. I ride a Trek (other good middle-of-the-price ones are Giant and Specialized). They aren't Walmart by any stretch, but they also are nowhere near to most expensive. My bike was about $800, but it now runs about $1000. I will say that your bike makes a HUGE difference. I rode a bike the other day that my sister had borrowed when we visited - it was horrible. We went about 14 miles and it was a struggle the entire way. I can easily do 14-20 miles on my bike. You can skimp on some things, but spend as much as you are able on the bike itself. My bike is a hybrid which means it can be ridden on any road, but it also can be ridden on trails with crushed gravel or cinder. The wheels are a bit larger, but not as big as a gravel or mountain bike. Your tush will hurt the first couple rides - no matter how good the seat is. It WILL GET BETTER - PROMISE! I hear some like the cloud seat - I have never tried it. I use the seat that came with my bike. I hope that helps! 💕

    Bobbi - here’s what I’m going to say about your decision to ditch IF and go with your current plan: first of all, it is none of my business what you do, right? You do you, I say. Having said that, your current plan sounds totally like the program that I am currently in called NoBS. Not sure if you’ve heard of it. There is no counting - like no counting macros, which is what you say you don’t want to do. The rub with the NoBS plan is that there truly are no magic bullets. It’s all about eating when you’re hungry and stopping at enough (not at FULL, but at enough). What NoBS spends a lot of time talking about is what is eating you versus what you are eating. In other words, dealing with the thoughts and issues that send you to food when you’re not hungry - using food to solve for other things that are going on. I am NOT a paid promoter for the program, I’m just sharing with you that what you are going to try is basically what they espouse. I wish you nothing but the best. Struggling with weight is like an albatross around your neck. It is not fun. Hugs to you! 💖

      @@MindfulMidlife the gal who owns the business is an “acquired taste” In terms of her manner of speaking, etc., but her content in terms of her take on weight loss is pretty solid.

    You look great; I love the hair. It is good to hear your journey with IF. Based on all of the folks who praise it, I thought it was just me who didn't lose on IF. And I did it with the help of a nutritionist/dietician. We tried for almost a year. When I went back to a more "traditional" way of eating I started losing again. I have since incorporated the My Plate plan along with intuitive eating and I feel better. My skin and hair are healthier (at 63 years young), I have more energy, my digestion is better than when I was on on IF and I am much less frustrated with food. You do you, experiment and find out what works for you. Every body is different.

    Yes to finding a great hairstylist! Mine is expensive, but so worth it. And she puts up with me.
