Tip, before refitting the boss to the shaft again, smear some lanolin grease to shaft where boss fits, will be easier to remove when the time comes again to remove.

Thanks heaps mate. Though I had a real stubborn Boss.. Used lots of WD-40 and many solid taps with a Hammer finally got it loose. I hammered the boss on the cylinder body. Don't hit the top you can break it.

    Remember to drain the oil
, if you are removing the engine from the mower deck. As it enters the carb from the sump when turned over or to the side....many a good mower has been thrown away needlessly because of this, as it failed to start due to contaminated fuel.
Drain oil and fuel, remove engine, do the work, replace oil and fuel and hopefully it all works.

stead of using that little pin that's smaller than the threads, I threaded a bolt in and tried that (hasn't come off yet, think its rusted on).. is using a bolt a bad idea ?

sypher0101 Using a bolt is okay, but If the boss is extremely hard to remove it may be possible for the pressure on the bolt to damage the threads

I have a stuck blade adapter on a Craftsman mower that I used a 2 legged puller along with a bolt and it will not budge. I sprayed it with penatrating oil but it still wont move so what should I do?

Tighten the puller till it is quite firm then use a hammer to gently hit the blade adaptor, Tighten the puller and continue to tap the blade adaptor with the hammer, The Vibrations can help loosen the bond, If you have the means applying heat to the adaptor also helps.

That's true some aren't easy. It took me 4 hours to get my rusty one loose. Lots of WD-40 and a hammer.
