On another note, Solar played that fourth game insanely good, how did he managed to loose 75 drones and still be able to bring it to a sort of leveled game against Maru, just shows how incredibly good he is and can be. A beast. Fighting till his last dying breath.

Solar managed to come back because maru was trading high value gas units medi vacs/mines for drones & lings
So 4 widow mines & 1 medivac= 75minerals/50gas
*4 Widow mines 300minerals 200gas*
*1 Medivac 100 mineral 100gas*
*400 minerals 300 gas per drop*
He lost a lot of drops
*For example*
if Solar loses 28 drones
and maru loses 4 drops
Solar loses: 2800 minerals+mining time
Maru loses: 1600 minerals & 1200 gas
so basically it was a 50/50 trade
if solar can drone up and slow maru’s economy down Solar should be in a place to be ahead on tech sense maru has used more gas on units and not tech
maru was in a place to keep him down in eco or lose sense maru is ahead in mineral eco📈 until solar drones back up

@@SuperGamingeek I've played many zvt's, if zerg misses on injects a few times they can easily have a massive economy and no larva which makes them fall behind and in the worst case loose games due to injects which they have to do in several locations (each hatchery/base) I've been able to come back against zerg's that missed their injects with a massive economy, I don't think it's a matter of balance, all races have pro's and con's, one thing I do believe is that it seems that in most openings terran is the one that has to find early damage or it falls behind and crushed mid game. I might be wrong but please someone help me understand why must always terran be the one having to kill drones or probes in order to be leveled early-midgame vs toss and zerg. 🤔

While I'm not sure how accurate Day9's technical analysis is, it can't be denied that he's incredibly entertaining to listen to. Wish he'd cast more SC2 in the future.
Damn zerg production is wild. When a protoss loses 5 workers to a mine drop the game is over, when zerg loses 75 drones he can still make it even... sorta. I guess mine drops probably hit protoss a bit earlier than these hit Solar too.
That and I think that the amount of mines used to kill that many drones meant that the pushes were much weaker

Crazy thing is a lesser Zerg would've taken 2-3x more damage from most of those mine drops and despite all the mayhem, Solar never let the same mine go off twice.
Great to see Maru's TvZ become monstrous once again. For a little while, he has struggled against Rogue, Leenock and even Reynor.
Glad to see Day9 back at it again!
Thank god i'm only a Diamond player.. and i don't have to go up against competent players using them. They are already a royal pain in the ass.. It's absolutely disgusting what Maru can do with them.. and that's against Solar :(

To be fair that is a really good tactic I say, if you keep forcing the other player to stop mining or die over and over and get a pick off or 30 in this case, you could catch up freakishly fast.
If I was solar I would have gg'ed that 4th game at the 10 minute mark. He held on well.

Serral left about 2 lings at each base to deal with mines.
He pulled drones out so fast when Maru dropped mines, the 2 lings took the hits.
OR just building spores and shut down the Medivac like Dark did.

You’re losing more drones and minerals to the harassment than you would have just building more spore crawlers.
Exactly, seems like 3 additional spores would save so many drones.

I have to ask this of Solar's play though: Why not build 1 Spine 1 Spore in every mineral line? . Would cost some minerals but saves him massive amounts of APM

is BeastyQT's Raven-widowmine something that just didn't happen?
wish mines required more skill to get these types of kills. they dont' appear to be retargeting and are essentially guaranteed damage. for a unit that usually trades in the positive against zerg with practically zero mico, i'd think they cost more. maybe drilling claws increases the cost to produce

I stoppped playing SC2 after HotS and sometimes think "hey maybe hop back into SC2" then in see games like these and remember "ah right, im no micro god and this looks like the opposite of fun...."
It's a lot of fun still! You gotta remember, your opponent isn't a micro God either!
widow mine drop looks so satisfying but when u notice resources lost dont feel so op
True, it can end up costing a decent amount of resources if you get ineffective trades as some of the mines will end up dying before doing anything, or may only hit 1 or 2 drones. The point is to deny Zerg from mining as much, and so hopefully their army will stay smaller than yours as they have to keep rebuilding drones. Maru almost lost his advantage as it took him awhile in that 4th game to put away Solar.
