I love that Serral has adapted his playstyle. His 2018 domination was off the back of insane infestor broodlord control. I think when ghosts become such a strong counter to that he struggled. I saw him lose quite often to Clem. Now he is changing it up so much, even going for early timing attacks and dropperlords and nydus harass. He still uses infestors a lot which I enjoy as they're my favourite zerg unit.
Serral has been on a tear lately. It took him a bit to adapt to the zerg nerfs, but he has looked unbeatable as of late. I haven't seen Maru get stomped like this in a while. Literally 4-1 maru and none of the games looked close except for the one he lost which seemed like an early tap.
Maru's micro and mental discipline in defending against a superior supply count over and over is legendary. Serral's strategic thinking was something else. Incredible skill from both payers!
I had to take a shower after that seeing Serral doing Maru dirty like that. It was like watching campaign Terran vs Zerg, Terran getting bled dry and eventually overrun. Serral playing really greedy helped so much against Maru.
16:20 commentary here is on point. Might as well take a majority of workers from your well-secured natural expansions and drain the resources from the contested bases that your army already has on lockdown.
I'm surprised it's not done more often when you expect to split the map, or even as a threat against your opponent who is trying to go for a late game map split. Zerg often take those outer bases first, then the Terran will fight its way out and retake them. So why not drain those outer ones first, then come back and finish off the inner bases later?
@@lordbry470 Yeah, it's a difficult thing to balance. But eventually you will have to move your economy to the outer bases anyway, so now it's at risk but you have no alternatives. A lot of Zerg - Terran/Protoss games seem to favour Terran in these situations so it feels like it might be worth the risk. Especially as the Terran/Protoss often just turtles knowing they will win due to efficiency, while the Zerg throws wave after wave at them. Use that defensiveness against them by draining the outer bases quickly, then when it transitions to the more attrition based end-game, none of your economy will be on the frontlines and they won't be able to push you back to take a base, as they will all be empty. Meanwhile, they're opening themselves up to be vulnerable as they start saturating their outer bases. I'm not saying they should do it every time, just that's it an option. It's a bit like deciding to heavily drone up and neglect on your army, on the basis that you don't think your opponent will launch a powerful early attack and you can just out-economy them. If it works, it pays off but it can also be punished heavily.

Yes, very much so. One of the more important things is early damage. The more drones you can kill early on the easier it is later, as the zerg just can't grow as fast whilst you build up to do duel in the mid game. The next item is mech. The ling bane style you usually see in these very A movey endgames is very bad versus thor hellion, with ghosts dueling spellcasters. Lings die to hellions, banes detonate on single thors and gain 0 value. The longer the terran stays on bio the better for zerg, as bio is matching the tech of the zerg whos on a higher economy, as opposed to besting it. Mech also has the added advantages of dealing well with zergs higher tech stuff (broods, vipers, ultras) and not requiring anywhere near as many medivacs, which are a big supply sink. Mech is susceptible to multi pronging, but whats worse, loosing a base you weren't defending very heavily, or loosing a base you were defending heavily. And the final item is, as it always will be, battlecruisers. Even with neural parasite, BCs force corrupters, stuff other than ling bane, and keep the zerg at home a bit to defend. I do personally think the ling bane style serral used to win in a lot of these games is a bit overpowered, but a good terran can certainly beat it.
@@Santisima_Trinidad it feels like it’s a lot harder to succeed with the Thor hellion mech comp in the mid game tho it’s so slow that Zerg can just constantly harass with runbys and you can’t easily respond with cross map plays of your own that you can do with bio or something. Then with mass Thor hellion you’re so immobile that Zerg gets more map control anyways and can just keep throwing units at you while teching up while Terran have to deal with constant pressure to maintain their army supply and tech up.
