- This is my new boat building project where I'll be building a 20ft Gary Dierking double Tamanu catamaran in my garage.
Some very (very!) kind people have asked how they can send a donation my way, so if you wanted to contribute to the catamaran build you can do it here...

This was so interesting to watch - I would love to be able to do something like this. Alas, when I lived in my house, wood working was not exactly one of my specialties 🤣
Really enjoyed the video quality too - couple of nice touches to keep the story flowing like the blowing off the sawdust after drilling the holes. You didn't have to do it, but it was a good way to transition from a time lapse back to real time.
Anyway - keep it up - looking forward to the next one.
Thanks for watching guys! The building is fun but I’m itching to get the boat done and start the on water adventures. Thanks for subbing, subbed back atcha! 🤙🤙
Love the Johnny Cash inspired channel name 👌
Aussie Safety Boots! heheheh, I needed that laughter today!
Happy to keep ya spirits high mate!!
You make a great build video Aaron. Thanks for making it- I can watch other people work all day!
Thanks Josh, appreciate you watching mate. 👍 How’s the pathfinder going?
Hi Aaron. Ya gotta love this rain eh? Emptied a 5,000 litre rain tank. Filled over one day. I think our new record is a foot of rain in 24 hours. Not as much the guys up home though. Enjoying your progress and hints as you go along. Absolutely no way could I manhandle that hull on my own, so submariners are certainly a different and capable lot. Looking forward to the next episode.
Hey Col, 5000L tank refilled in a day?! That's crazy mate. We're all done with this bloody rain. Haha, yep those flimsy hull sides were almost too much, I thought they might have snapped under their own weight, which isn't a hell of a lot. Thanks for continually tuning in mate.
@@Aaron.deRuiter Mate. Retirement. No money, but plenty of time til I croak.
The drought's back (we hope). Only 3mm yesterday and the wife even got washing dry today. Meanwhile there's an electrical problem due to flooding at home, so someone drew the short straw and won't be helping you fillet those fine epoxy lines mate.
Noice. Been considering building the Selway Fisher Hawke 18footer. Will just fit in my single garage with workshop. will keep watching the progress
Thanks Brendan. I just had a look at the Hawk plans, she has a small sail area for an 18ft cat, if you build one you should definitely increase the sail area… maybe repurpose a Hobie16 rig?
Good progress, Aaron. I watched you being careful with the bulkheads but I thought if I were doing it, I’d mark each surface with a position number, front/back and top/bottom. It takes so long to sort out any mix-ups.
Thanks Justin, yep that’s exactly how I would it next time as well. There was no harm done but it’s always a good opportunity to refine the process when we make mistakes plus getting it right the first time would have saved time and a half a dozen cable ties.
Interesting to see how others do it.... Good Vid! Very Informative and well done! Keep shunting brah
Thanks mate, I watched your latest video about rudders and it’s something I’m doing plenty of thinking about too. If you find the perfect solution you’ll be like god!!
@@Aaron.deRuiter I may be on the verge to giving up man... AD-Scull probably all the way!!! got some new ideas, vid coming soon. Take care
So have you progressed on the Skimmer build or has it all been deconstructed to make some paddle boards lol...
Skimmer is still waiting in the garage! Hopefully I can get back to continue the build soon.
I would like to make an small version, let's say around 3 meters long. Is there any place I can find the plans? Thaanks!
You want to build a 3m catamaran similar to the skimmer design? I have some plans that are nearly finished which could work. What do you want to do with the boat and how do you want to power it? Sail, paddle or motor?
Very cool build! How far from the bulkhead line did you drill the holes for the zip ties on the hull panel?
Thanks mate, the holes are around 4-5mm either side of the bulkhead position
@@Aaron.deRuiter Mahalo for the info, I hope you are progressing on the build, I look forward to the next video!
What happened to your Outrigger Sailing wa'apa? Any more videos coming?
I sold the Wa’apa 18 months ago but I’m building a 20ft catamaran so should be back sailing soon!
@@Aaron.deRuiter Just ordered Gary's book. Looking forward to your videos.
Did you finished?
Not yet!
Какой используется клей для склейки фанеры?
The epoxy I’m using is Bote Cote. It’s a superb quality locally Australian made glue.
Update please!!! No rush but I really appreciate your videos and am really interested in this build. But seriously, no rush🥸
G’day Chris, not much to report I’m afraid. I hope to get back to Skimmer soon.
