Appalachian Trail Day 11 - Home Sweet Smokies

Conquered the smokies today! Woke up in Jo’s truck bed thankfully, and organized all my gear and took off! A calm, misty morning, still rainy and cloudy but beautiful. Socks and shoes still soaked through so I am wearing my Chaco Chillo clogs still! Said goodbye to Jo and started from Newfound Gap! So cool hiking where I’ve hiked before as part of my quest! It was really quiet on trail, not a lot of people probably due to the weather, sadly I didn’t get all of the epic smoky mountains views because of the clouds but it did clear up multiple times for me so I got glimpses. Hiking today was so cool because it really is the highest sustained portion where you’re not constantly going up and down but rather hiking along the ridge line, I freaking love it! It’s what envisioned the AT would be. Saw some beautiful shelters and I think Mount Guyot was my favorite part, it was so green and had this forbidden feel to it. Streams and springs gushing out of the mountain across the trail. Today felt like walking through a creek all day because all the trails turn into streams with the rocks and water. Lost my micro sd card before Cosby knob shelter - the shelter had a rude ridge runner older lady that was acting pretty aggressive, so I immediately left. Made it all the way to my favorite montage, Mount Cammerer! Stayed the night there with an incredible sunset and a delicious chicken and dumplings dinner, that I spilled haha. Chee hoo!
