The war in South Sudan began in murky circumstances in mid-December, when tribal factions within the country's army, the SPLA, began fighting each other in the center of the capital, Juba. The SPLA quickly fractured into two camps: an insurgency drawn from members of former vice president Riek Machar's Nuer tribe and troops who remained loyal to President Salva Kiir, of the Dinka tribe. Both sides have been accused of committing gross human rights abuses during the conflict. VICE News arrived in Juba and found the army desperate to dispel rumors that rebels were advancing on the capital. Soldiers were keen to take our correspondents on a trip with them into the bush to recapture the strategic city of Bor from the rebels... only the raid didn't turn out quite as they had expected.

They were part of South Sudan army division 8 commanded by one of Nuer Gen. Peter Gatdet who defected from the government side and killed his deputy who was Dinka, and the rest of Dinka soldiers because the Dinka soldiers massacred 20,000 Nuer civilians in Juba on December 13,14 and 15 and that commander who was lying was in fact from Nuer tribe and was lucky he was not killed and the other commander from Dinka was killed.

this is a poverty stricken nation we are speaking of in the midst of two wars one civil and one national/ethnical. There are so many complications but do not forget it also tribally seperating nation therefore co-ordinating a strike is not as easy as say fighting in the us army a national army responding to demands from one entity. These tribes i would think are no so responsive militarily to other tribes in terms of co-ordination so of course things can get clumsy when you have so many factors poverty, military underspending due to poverty, tribal seperation and one not limited to Sudanians, fear a natural human instinct that saves lives and in this case cause commotion. I do agree they should get training but it shouldnt be limited to ONE tribe that is how they gain power and dictate all other tribes how to live socially, economically and religiously. How do you train a nation of tribally seperated divised peoples in one half of sudan what happens to the arabs on the other side do we train them to?

Brothers fighting each other there is no winning to this. This is not how Sudan's people Liberation Army(SPLA) were when they were fighting Khartoum or else they would had never lasted 21 years(longest civil war). I don't think these soldiers are cowards. I believe they just don't believe in the cause they're fighting for.

No, they aren't soldiers. Most of them are just civilians/farmers who barely know how to manage gun. And if you are a soldier as you say, you should knew that already. Thats why its called "CIVIL WAR"

The problem is, that if the officers are the first fleeing it will go through all ranks; even trained soldiers will lose their moral. That's something you can see through history. The moral of an army is only so high as the moral of the leader in the field.

Poorly informed and poorly organized army, let alone having any form of tactics.
Most important thing lacking is a solid stream of logistics. First thing they should do is just gather a ton of cars just supplying food and water and picking up wounded bodies and drive on and of from a nearby camp so the soldiers can keep fighting.

The U.S and few European countries were heavily influenced by the christian evangelical movements to SPLIT the united Sudan, with its multi ethnic and religious groups, ( Christians & Muslims), and caused all what you are watching now. It is a vicious crime committed by a zealout N.American evangilcals who worked tirelessly to LOBBY the govenment(s) for years and years until this happened. WOE be to THEM... they shall perish .... soon.
