I think he didn’t mean it in a bad way (hopefully) I understood that since the kids are sold, they now have owners so they need to return them to their actual “owners” (the parents). I don’t know if that makes sense. But yes, I hope it was just a language barrier.

"Biliguinist here who speaks English and Nuer the language spoken in the video. I understood what he was saying and I was reading the subtitles with it. For the most part they were accurate with translating. There are things that don't translate correctly between different languages. What's lost in translation is that it's not meant to be "owners". It was meant to say have them returned to the ones who take care of them. A generic term. South Sudan is a new nation but it has been in a state of conflict since it's inception. Even before 2011 the area that would be South Sudan was plagued with civil wars for decades. There are simply a lot of children out there from South Sudan who were never reconnected with their parents and are either taking care of themselves or being taken care of by someone. Hence the true translation." -Kun Deng

Dispreet Dhillon, it’s natural. A very few amount of people decide to have sex to make babies in our day and age, but rather to have fun in a recreational activity. Do you really think the parents are jumping up and down all excited about having a kid? No. Because it’s called unplanned pregnancy and they’re aware of the financial burden the child will inflict. Sadly, abortions are generally inaccessible in those impoverished areas, which is why you see these sad stories occurring, not because the parents want to cause pain and suffering to themselves and their children.

It's actually a fascinating answer. If you go back far enough, you'll find that it was the British, French, and Dutch that really began this tradition. Not just in Sudan, but throughout Africa. It's shocking to hear them talk of children as commodities, but that's what colonization does. It takes the native inhabitant and reduces them to a mere commodity. I could see how over a century of that, paired with a complete lack of economic development, might leave a society a bit screwed up.

you should also consider that teachers in america teach with career-driven mind and are taxed heavily... teachers in impoversihed nations are usually volunteers who are idealists who dont really earn money, and are happy to contribute to the lives of the poor... children in upper class socities dont value school because they believe its obligation... children in lower socities see schooing as luxury and a slice of freedom.. its really a sad reality

Nomad Black, it is common for people with low values to take things for granted. Have you seen the DOC. About the most dangerous roads to school. Now that is determination driven by hope to better oneself. Guidance is essential for a person to develop the drive to learn and better oneself and at the same time value the simple opportunity of existence. Be good god to your spawns.

Well some school is better than no school but schools in america suck so much cause after you have become literate the thing they teach you are completely useless in your life or even in your job. Example history and spanish.
Saying American kids hate school is like saying look in that poor country people are starving so you should happily eat this half rotten bread. Bad bread is better than no bread but it doesn't change the fact that bread is very very bad.
Just because someone is in worse condition than you doesn't make your condition good.

@@sebajun8601 jesus ain't coming to save us. We need to save ourselves. Remember the fable about the drowning man who refused help because god was going to save him?
The shit is not going to end. It's just going to get worse until people are willing to pay the costs of physically standing up against it.

@@chev443 It does make a right when you are talking about property. For example you steal my TV then I am morally justified to steal your TV. Or in situation not involving others, you hit me and I hit you. But we are talking about people. You are imagining the situation from the perspective of the parent. Try imagining from the perspective of the kidnapped child. You were not involved in the kidnapping, did nothing wrong, and yet was punished for someone else's wrongdoing. If for example your brother killed my brother, a crime you are obviously not involved in and not support, then would it be right for me to kill you as justice?
