Dave. I can honestly say that the cost of visiting Sto Nino island off of Calbayog City has increased as it has in the US. A sack of rice in 1981 was around 800 pesos, now close to 3,000 pesos. I have seen so many vlogs by expats that communicate the expenses they have to live in the Philippines. It all comes down to what lifestyle you want to have. So many questions I have seen and still, the same questions keep coming up. The only way a person for whom desires to retire in the Philippines needs to make a list of places they want to visit and do their own research on the cost. No location in the Philippines is the same, big cities are extremely more expensive than say living on an island. Calbayog, I think is a reasonable place to live if you are going to live a simple live.
Calbayog is a great place to live- And costs are very reasonable compared to the more modern cities. It is definitely all about where you live and your personal needs are. Thanks for sharing Take care

If you live like a local you can get the prices even lower. There are decent places for rent in the provinces for like 5000 php a month. It's not expensive to install a window or split aircon (the split would require the owners permission, but I don't think they would say no). Food is cheap, like 3 dollars a day if you don't buy imported premade stuff and eat like the locals. A lot of locals live on like 15,000 php a month (and sometimes less). Tripling that gives a solidly middle class lifestyle. 75k a month is like upper middle class due to the PPP of the country.
I have sent money over several ways “Wise” is one of the services. And now that we have a bank account it’s an easy transfer from the states. I’ll go into more depth about it on an upcoming video. Take care Steve

Great Video as usual. Budget is a direct reflection of your life style. Province life, cost is much more resonable. Western life style, cost is higher. I'm assuming if you are paying on a visa every month, you are still on a Tourist Visa? If Mau has a passport you both should leave PI for a weekend then come back to PI together so you get a one year BalikBayan Visa when you come back. One year, free visa stay for BalikBayan for being married to a PI citizen.

What about any type of medical insurance cost? My wife and I are healthy for now, however, no one can foresee the future of hospital or doctor bills.
Pacific Cross is very good insurance to have.
Take a look at it.

Nice, hopefully Calbayog City gets it together and builds a nice mall.
Thank you for sharing, I recently posted my first month budget living here and mine is slightly higher than yours but I'm by myself. So, in reference, there was a few numbers missing. Gas for vehicle (guessing mote bike) plus oil changes plus tires. Health insurance costs?
@@robertbritz257
Yes, we paid the school 5000 this month, that’s not every month still using the 5000 from previous month for fuel. We still live on the 70,000. Our fuel costs being in the city is maybe 1200 at the most with local driving. And the remaining adds up for tires oil changes. We just put tires on her scooter for 3600. So we are always within budget. Insurance video coming up.
Thanks for your input.

Calbayog is a great place to live-
And costs are very reasonable compared to the more modern cities.
It is definitely all about where you live and your personal needs are.

I have friends telling me I can't live cheap, $1500 to $1750 USD is my sweet spot but if I had to save money, I could honestly make it on $900 USD a month.............what I've learned about the Philippines, many out here have way to many habits, that's why they can't live cheap.
@@philippinecowboy
Habits can cost money for sure.
Westernized spending is the killer of all. Always wanting more is built into the brains. We always say “Need” or “want”. We splurge on certain items but also save to pay cash. No loans no credit cards.

I am Canadian,is that 2600 hundred SS,in Canada our government pension are split into 2 to 3 parts.I believe you on that amount because the US $ is so strong.I was wondering do you have a work pension or investments. If i put my pension and investment income together i would have about 6 grand a month,so i guess i could live pretty good over there.
@@JohnHobbs-o3z
I leave a large portion of my retirement and investment money in the states. And as I need it I’ll transfer over. We are purchasing a vehicle and I’ll transfer funds to pay in full.
The $2600 average transfer we live on average of $1200 outgoing a month and I can build up our joint acct and her personal acct. My wife will need moneys available when we travel outside of the country, it’s required that she have enough funds to return herself if something happens to us or myself. I trust U.S banks more than Philippines banks but will continue to build up our accounts here and make sure she has sufficient funds for after I have left this earth.
Your funds are plenty and enjoying the Philippines and lots of travel.
Keep your funds at home and just send over what you’re going to need and support whoever you’re with.

Agree, as time passes things become easier to save money by learning proper pricing and not wasting.

Just came across your video Sir. I’ve lived here for 16 months and you probably could live on that sort of budget but it’s really only surviving Why come from the west and down grade your lifestyle? You can get all the western foods at Landers S&R ect enjoy your later years and plan before you come here at least $2.500 a month and you can live comfortably. Cheers 🍻

I can’t find info on it yet as far as insurance-hopefully in the next couple of months it will update.
Hopefully it will except it.

@maudave thank you. We are looking at Angeles City because Medical City Hospital accepts BCBS and TRICARE. but we'd rather live in Calbayog
It's not that we do not believe your living expensives. It's your lifestyle that dedicates your monthy budget. Some just survice whike others live a more robust lifestyle.
For every example you give I can counter it.
For people who want to live in a upple class lifestyle, be able to live in bgc at the pacific plaza towers for $P250,000 monthly or settle in at the Sheraton Hotel Residences for $P280,000 for to bedroom villa.
You have many vloggers living around Cebu It park living the middle class dream in condos for $P35,000/$P25,000 monthly range.
So you get the picture.
I for one, can not belive it takes me $P500 just to get a plumber to come and prime the well pump every time it stops every day in the province.
Food for thought 😊
I understand completely.
But I did state that this is more for the common guy with $2-3000 total income. I also could live a more luxury lifestyle, I choose simplicity.
Thank you for your input.
I appreciate it.

The videos posted online the person is already living there and previous bought items like a TV, clothes, dishes, motorbike, etc. Many of the videos I have watched suggest a startup budget of around $7500 on top of the usual expenses then an emergency fund of $10K to $20K.
