I was allways thought that Long came from the kind of Glass the drink was served in. A tall narrow glass. In Finland this drink is called "lonkero". A klassik joke about a finish drink is that you fill up a glass of Finnish Vodka (Finlandia or Koskenkorva) Put an lingonberry in the drink for taste but quickly take out the lingonberry again so the vodka dont get to much taste. You could use the same lingonberry all night until you fell asleep drunk.
It's a cocktail made from combining grapefruit-soda/lemonade/pop and gin. Needs to be absolutely ice cold (best if you put it in the freezer before drinking. even after the fridge) and best served with the glass FULL of ice. In finland bars have 3 taps. one beer, one cider and one long drink. Finns usually call it "lonkero" which also happens to translate to "tentacle". Tastes like soda. Will get you effed up REAL quick if you don't know what you're doing 🤣
