I actually picked this up for Steam because of you, and I'm really enjoying it, so thanks; I'd say that I'm closing in on the end of Volume 2. I don't really know anything about .hack beyond the game, but I'm having a lot of fun just going on adventures in random fields; the different weather is really enjoyable to me, even though like you said, it's pretty basic bro. Pi is probably my favorite so far, but Endrance never fails to make me smile; he's like the old "friendship is magic" trope cranked up past 11 until the dial falls off.

I beat vol 2 and since then I haven't really had the itching to go back to vol 3, because as you said, they start you off with the same chimchim quests and even thought I greatly enjoyed the plot and the twist at the end of vol 2 was really good, it started grating on me the repetitive nature of the game, and also the things that it wants you to do for the Plat/the wallpapers was just too much for me like finding PKers by walking around in areas randomly or kicking 150 animals, that just seems like even more padding, even if I do enjoy the base systems of the game. Another minor nitpick I had was the small inventory that made you have to throw things away or sell them when you had a certain amount over the limit. Still playing the first two volumes of this made me really love it, and I especially like Haseo's character arc and some of the sidecharacters like Ovan, Alkaid, Endrance and Tri-Edge. Also reading the forums is super fun, especially looking at all the little interactions like with Butt Rice and the other guy, and also the news reporter in the news section who has mysterious things happen to him parallel to the plot of the game. It's little touches like that which make me really appreciate this trilogy. By the way, you said this game is easy, but what did you think of the secret bosses and dopplegangers? Great review, even though I'd probably give it a higher score even without nostalgia, probably just because I like edgelords and action combat systems. Also yeah, ROOTS is probably the most slow and repetitive thing ever and it's really a disappointment for being a prequel to these games.
This is a great review. As a big fan of the G.U trilogy it's nice to see someone who has the same love of the games as I do but also acknowledges the game's flaws and outdated game design choices. Reused background NPC models and claw hands/painted faces don't bother me that much because it's still a 2006 game we're talking about here. What I think that really kills the game is, as you said, the pacing and the use of log outs as a way to convey passage of time, and the lack of variety in levels. Walking arround a sunny field with that relaxing music playing it's one my most treasured gaming memories, but doing the same thing in the same 5 areas for 3 games kinda kills it for me now. Huge lost opportunity with Lost Grounds, the most interesting areas of the game, not being actual levels.

@@akillen77 this game make you feels like playing MMO, but without actually deals with real online player..it had good storyline..but the downside is you tend to be overleveled when fighting boss fight..however, you can set random map and go through the dungeon with high level monster for side exploring
@@paanazmi8062 lol thats nice so you don't have to deal with toxicity of actual mmo gameplay. I'd rather be over leveled than have to waste hours grinding, but when it makes bosses trivial that sucks.
Great review! I've been considering picking this up because I have the original four games and never managed to finish them before my PS2 died on me. Hopefully one day Sony or someone will give us a device that can play our original PS2 disks so I can finally play through to the end.
Alright, so...you say the email thing was just to make the game feel longer. I don't understand, did you forget that .hack//GU is about people playing a mmorpg? Haseo is the CHARACTER of a teenager playing a mmorpg. So obviously he is gonna stop playing sometimes to check email, the forum, news, etc and of course other players will chat with him online through emails as well. It's part of the story and the world building. One of the best things about the .hack series is that they managed to simulate a mmorpg environment in a single player jrpg. All those features were what made the trilogy so unique to being with. You can say the games are short and you wouldnt be wrong about that, but the CRAZY amount of side content and world building really shows how much work and thought the devs put in the universe of the .hack// series.
No, I didn't forget cause...being in an morpg is the entire game? And it's stupid when in the game you can literally recieve SHORT MAIL. I'm not ANTI-EMAIL but when it's literally an email telling you to go here. It's stupid. Checking forums, news etc fine. Checking your email after ever story related thing is stupid. And even if that would be the real life case that doesn't mean it's a good idea in game. In that case, why not make it more realistic and make him stop playing the game to eat, drink, piss etc. Some things are better on paper. I give credit to the world building, yes, I even say I appreciate this games ambitious scope. It is the use of emails. In any case, even if we disagree, thank you for watching.
Just wanted to say, I just found you through Tarks and you are amazing!! Love your reviews, they totally line up with my likes and loves of jrpgs. Also thank you for all the random nods to lgbt stuff in games. As a gay man it just warms my heart seeing the love for any story that helps my fellow lgbt+ community feel the love. Now I am off to binge all your great reviews! Keep it up you fantastic lady!!
I feel the same as you, I LOVED .hack//G.U. in high school, waiting for each volume was so agonizing and when I finally got to play them it was so euphoric. Playing the HD version now thought?................ ehhhh? It's not bad, but it's nowhere near as amazing as I used to think it was. Oh, and yeah, Sword Art Online is fucking GARBO.
Oh shit...an identical experience as mine. In high school I used to watch the trailers almost everyday waiting for the games to come out...but I'm 27 now and replaying them all...not the same experience 😅 still enjoyable
I don't think we'll ever get a renaster of the original saga, because this video has 1/8 the views of how many copies this collection sold... worldwide. The physical PS4 copy is probably going to be the new .Hack//Quarantine, because not all of the 300K copies this game sold were physical.
Awesome review! Loved watching it! Never played any of the dot hack games. Definitley looks interesting. Love how the game looks. Gonna have to give it a go! :)
@@PelvicGaming Last I heard, the devs were like "Ask Namco!" Which usually means it's not going to happen. So sad when companies don't want money and just hold IPs hostage to do nothing with.
If you like the mother series, or fist of the north star, then you would really like LISA: The Painful. It is a great indie game made by a single dude, Austin Jorgenson. It was inspired by Mother, but it really stands on its own. It has a great story, unique gameplay, and awesome music. It has a lot of death, lost limbs, and broken men. I don't want to spoil it though, it is best to experience it yourself. It is an underrated gem that really inspires me as an aspiring author/game developer. (Sorry for the ramble, but I love this game, and your channel. I've never commented here before, but nobody will read this anyway, so whatever.)
//Sign and IMQO were the best, I loved legend of the twilight too. Everyone besides Haseo in roots was at least kinda interesting. The problem was Haseo.
I've been trying to venture in to more of these JRPG types I love a deep story arc! This kimda reminds me of Sword Arc Online Anime were you battle through levels I'll keep an eye out for this one! Liked and Subscribed!
It's one thing to have the player automatically lose to a boss. It's another thing to lose in a cutscene. It's another thing to do it twice in a row. But to do it twice in the same cutscene?
Okay -- I guess I need help here -- I played 1 or 2 of the .Hack games back on PS2 in the day and enjoyed them. But I thought I looked like the "villain" in this one? (Red beret hat?). Was that "original" .Hack? And this is called G.U? This main character doesn't look familiar at all. If thats the case is there a collection on PS4 for the originals? Or just these G.U ones? I'm slightly confused! :)
Idk if you will see this cause it's an old review but, I was wondering if the game gets a little tougher. Same as you, Hack G.U. is one of my favorite sagas from the PS2 and I LOVED playing it back in the day. However, I don't know if I was really bad back then or I just don't remember it really well, but in this remaster (I'm on Reminisce atm) the game is SO easy which makes it a little boring to play, even though of course I'd like to play that 4th chapter they added and simply relieve these games that I loved back then but man... the games are not making it any easier =/.
I think the game it’s better than a 6/10 I played the originals back in the ps2 era and I finally get to own the collection on ps4 and im loving everything about it. Sure it have some annoying animations but we already knew that because this is a remastered collection not a remake. In my heart it’s a 8/10 if you really like old school JRPG like Persona 3 & 4.
It's more than the animations. The pacing is absolutely awful. Don't get me wrong as I said I love this game today but an 8 out of 10 is too high for me personally. Thanks for watching. :-)
Um...YES. In the remake you actually get 24 promise cards so you can marry the entire cast! Unlike the original on PlayStation 2 you only get one. Granted, I married Endrance and only Endrance both times lol. ♡
I acualy used speed hack for this game on PC just too speed up the game a but be it repetitive dungeons or slow unskipable dialoged that wont let you skip text despite reading it fast enough. I read fast and dont understand enough Japanese for me to have to listen to evry line of dialogue being spoken seeing as i can read it. Surprisingly enough speed hack has no negative effects on the game its the equivalent of the turbo button on older emulators only for windows games only you can set the limit to how fast it goes it may break some games but as stated it worked fine in this one.
I was OBSESSED with .hack in high school and missed these games so I picked it up on PlayStation4.... Yeah I couldn't get through the first few hrs of the first game lmao. I have gotten old and picky with the little of time that I have.
GU was way better than IMOQ. The pacing was so much worse in the original games. And the combat system was so much slower. I liked the mailing system. It really immersed me into the story, and gave me emotional attachment to the characters, making them feel real. I was excited to browse new emails, forums, and news. It felt like my reward for some of the repetitive missions. But IMOQ needs a glorified remaster, and to change the combat system to GUs. And they need to include all four Liminality chapters.
I remember playing this game, I think I'll just keep my rose couloured memories, rather than buy it for the PC and spoil the memory by realising how dated old games look.
This just came out on the switch and this review's convinced me to add it to my ever expanding backlog.

Heard you on DYKG and came immediately here. Your energy is so frigging infectious. Going on a front to back backlog binge. Wish me luck.
Thank you! And best of luck to ya!
Your reviews have no rival. Best.
You honor me ♡
Happy belated birthday!!!🎉🎈🎊🎁🎂
I loved GU. My brother and I never got a chance to finish it though. He may have now. I should grab this at some point when I’m not drowning in Kingdom Hearts. Excellent review, milady~
you make informative, good ass reviews
Thank you. :-)
The original trilogy is what gets me through my depressing middle school lol
You just got a new sub, girl! I'm a sucker for this series and loved your review. I'll definitely gonna watch other reviews from you later. ;)
Thank you so much!! ♡
just discovered your channel through did you know gaming and oh god so much good content. you deserve many more subs.
ps: i just fuckin love ovan and greetings from brazil
It is late to say this but HAPPY BIRTHDAY! 🎉🎉🎉
THANK YOUUUU
Nice was wondering if this is worth getting
Super flawed, super easy, but super awesome.. I am also super biased. xD
@@PelvicGaming based on your review it seems like something to buy at a deep discount in the future. I thought packaging all the games together would be a bit tedious and your review sort of confirmed that
@@akillen77 this game make you feels like playing MMO, but without actually deals with real online player..it had good storyline..but the downside is you tend to be overleveled when fighting boss fight..however, you can set random map and go through the dungeon with high level monster for side exploring
@@paanazmi8062 lol thats nice so you don't have to deal with toxicity of actual mmo gameplay. I'd rather be over leveled than have to waste hours grinding, but when it makes bosses trivial that sucks.
Literally no one:
.hack//roots: here's a freeze frame of Shino for 30 seconds
There’s another black person that likes this franchise!? Instant sub.

The painted on faces reminds me of Kingdom Hearts so it doesn't bother me much. I'm used to Ps2 / Gamecube games.
As another OG fan, this game always makes me hype.
Edit: Parody mode? I'm shocked. Can't wait.
I really like this series as well! I still need to see the manga, love the review.
Check out 'Legend of the Twilight' manga. Sooo good. Much better than anime counterpart.
I always wanted to see how these games played. 👍
saw your room, iinstantly subscribed
Good review! I definitely want to give this game a try down the line!
Of all the things they could've changed I wish we had the option to keep his pkk attire.
Okay..I see you out here! I'm feeling these reviews.
Ayeeeee thank ya!
Hey Pelvic. Thanks for the review. Look forward to seeing your videos. Thanks
PS that shade at Sword Art Online at the very end? *chef kiss*
PlayStation store had this series on sale for there 15th anniversary like $13 just beat volume 1 🤓 great series 😁
It's one of my favorites! I hope you continue to enjoy :-)
Great review! I've been considering picking this up because I have the original four games and never managed to finish them before my PS2 died on me. Hopefully one day Sony or someone will give us a device that can play our original PS2 disks so I can finally play through to the end.
If they gave us the original I'd die happy. The original has a better story imo but //GU absolutely had better gameplay if memory serves me right.
.//hack love is POURING!
I'm looking for a game that plays kinda like Ys or Trials of Mana and this game is currently on sales. Would you recommand it?
You're so pretty and now I might have to play this game that has been sitting on my PS5 library for ages.

Gollum
Smegol
An Endurance stan?! Unacceptable! xD
Thank you so much!! ♡♡♡ That means a lot. Hope you enjoy what you find! ^.^
@@PelvicGaming Your very welcome! And I am loving all your vids. Keep em coming!
@ya boi slump Hey, glad you liked the video!
@@basedmek I'm 27 now and I use to do the same thing
I don't think we'll ever get a renaster of the original saga, because this video has 1/8 the views of how many copies this collection sold... worldwide. The physical PS4 copy is probably going to be the new .Hack//Quarantine, because not all of the 300K copies this game sold were physical.
Awesome review! Loved watching it! Never played any of the dot hack games. Definitley looks interesting. Love how the game looks. Gonna have to give it a go! :)
Really makes me wish we could get the original .hack trilogy remastered.
Dude me and you both...
@@PelvicGaming Last I heard, the devs were like "Ask Namco!" Which usually means it's not going to happen. So sad when companies don't want money and just hold IPs hostage to do nothing with.
Congratulations on your collaboration with didyouknowgaming 👌
Thank you so much!
You sold me on it. Games 10 bucks on psn again. Wasn't sure on the story but it sounds pretty great
Yaaaay!!! I hope you love it!!
"I had an accident, it was brown".
I was not prepared...
Great review. Ima get it.
//Sign and IMQO were the best, I loved legend of the twilight too. Everyone besides Haseo in roots was at least kinda interesting. The problem was Haseo.
Awesome review 👍👍👍👍Thanks
I've been trying to venture in to more of these JRPG types I love a deep story arc! This kimda reminds me of Sword Arc Online Anime were you battle through levels I'll keep an eye out for this one! Liked and Subscribed!
.hack was my shit. The series may be dead but the music lives on in my head. What an amazing soundtrack.
It's one thing to have the player automatically lose to a boss. It's another thing to lose in a cutscene. It's another thing to do it twice in a row. But to do it twice in the same cutscene?
So these games are different from the ps2 games? I wasn't able to finish those as I remember..
Theyre the same with some slight "improvements". And a few add ons.
@@PelvicGaming I see, I think I wasn't able to finish the 3rd game then I wasn't able to buy the 4th in Ps2, thanks for the reply!
The 4th is exclusive to the ps4 version! Its a small add on chapter. There was a vol 4 in the original. Hack games however. :)
Hope that helped!
@@PelvicGaming Thanks! I might buy a ps4 once ff7 remake is out ☺

The original is infection, mutation etc. Tri edge is the data of Kite the original protag
i never knew there's 4th volume
There is! But its only apart of Last Recode!
@@PelvicGaming watching this review made me really want to play this series again..i enjoy heck out of it in ps2..sadly, not many rpg in ps4 like this
Honestly, that makes me happy to hear! It's so worth replaying. :-)
Nope. No it does not. It was. Breeze and and a joke all the way through if you over leveled.
@@PelvicGaming Damn... That's unfortunate.
Fab review and that lipstick choice is A+++!
Haseo and Endrance can be a couple?.... I'm replying this game again!!
Um...YES.
In the remake you actually get 24 promise cards so you can marry the entire cast! Unlike the original on PlayStation 2 you only get one. Granted, I married Endrance and only Endrance both times lol. ♡
@@PelvicGaming I never knew you could marry in the original!
@@decusq me either im running to the game now lol
I acualy used speed hack for this game on PC just too speed up the game a but be it repetitive dungeons or slow unskipable dialoged that wont let you skip text despite reading it fast enough.
I read fast and dont understand enough Japanese for me to have to listen to evry line of dialogue being spoken seeing as i can read it.
Surprisingly enough speed hack has no negative effects on the game its the equivalent of the turbo button on older emulators only for windows games only you can set the limit to how fast it goes it may break some games but as stated it worked fine in this one.
I watched 2 minutes in & had to stop watching bc I'm sold. I wanna play this completely blind 😂
Haha I'm glad!! I hope you enjoy!!
Should I get this or persona 5? Lol
Por que no los dos?
Holy shit as soon as you mentioned marriage I assumed they were straight locked but holy shit this game had gay marriage before the US did
I was OBSESSED with .hack in high school and missed these games so I picked it up on PlayStation4.... Yeah I couldn't get through the first few hrs of the first game lmao. I have gotten old and picky with the little of time that I have.
I rememebr really hating the Hack Sign. But the games always looked interesting. Nice review, I will check GU out!
Thats me with Dark Cloud
