One thing I love about your reviews is that you always make sure to mention the music, a lot of other reviewers don't even think about it. Music can make or break a game's atmosphere.
Daniel is the man. Love that dude. Struggling father, and a total bad ass. Lots of character development along the way too. In many ways you could say parasite eve is a story of... CELLF DISCOVERY! I'll see myself out. Great video!
I was 11 years old... The very first game I ever ended. I'm from Mexico and had no clue of English language but something makes me play it and try my best to understand what it was about. Today I'm 32. Married. Still playing it like crazy. This videogame marks my world. Thanks to it I love scifi, science, story driven videogames and electronic music. As of today, I'm an electronic music composer and still mix electronic beats with piano, strings and female vox. My favorite videogame.
Fun fact Eve is the same concept as Jenova from FF7. Parasite eve, ff7, xenogears and chrono trigger where all being made or conceived around similar times so they all end up sharing some similar themes and narrative ideas.
Awesome review. I was 14 when Parasite Eve came out, and had already spent a lot time with Resident Evil 1 and 2. Something about Parasite Eve creeped me out even more than the zombies and bio weapons of Umbrella Corporation. The horror of Eve's victims bodies betraying them just gave me an existential dread I really hadn't considered before. I totally agree on the walk speed, it's so slow it makes the walk cycle animation look busted. Overall though the game was an awesome entry in the mini "golden age" of survival horror.
Seeing the cinematic mutations was gross and awesome all at the same time. Oh man it was easily the worst thing about this game. And haste lasted so little. But I do agree, this is a little gem that is under appreciated.
Parasite Eve's more about body horror, which isn't surprising with the Sheeva transformation being reminiscent to John Carpenter's The Thing, whereas Resident Evil draws more heavily from George A. Romero's original zombie trilogy. As for the slow walking speed, this was a point of contention for reviewers and players alike when the game first released. If I recall right, the developers realized how short the game is, so slowed the running speed in order to pad the game. Even with the slower gait, it only takes about 9-12 hours to beat.
Your review for Parasite Eve is very spot on, so I most likely will. I don't see many classic game reviews nowadays, so seeing a new player touch on them every so often is pretty nice!
Pelvic! You played Parasite Eve! Woot. And you *did* promise that you'd be doing a review praising the skills of Yoko Shimomura, so you sure do deliver. Happy you enjoyed your playthrough. So pleased to see this title in your collection.
I've always wished this game got an anime. Like a bad ass 90s ova body horror, gore fest like Wicked City. Though, I think I'm in the minority on that.
I like your style and it's cool that you went back to the well for a cool classic like this. This and Heart of Darkness were the games I bought with my first paycheck back in the day. Had a great story.
Look at that afro!!! Love it! Great review. I shouldn't think this way but I'm glad that someone who looks like me is doing gaming reviews. I planned on doing this myself after my Masters degree. Great job.
Very solid review. I think you really did a great job speaking about how underrated it is. I agree, the music is so damn great. And yes yes Ms. Brea can't run bleh
Yoko Shimomura's got quite the resume. Street Fighter II, Super Mario RPG, but I think Parasite Eve is her finest work. One of my all-time favorite game music composers.
Can't believe you don't have more subscribers. Your knowledgeable, funny, and beautiful, your videos are well edited, and you show love to the old school RPG's? Easy sub. Also I just bought the game on the Vita for $3.00 and forgot how much I liked this game. You should try Vagrant Story if you haven't already.
Great review! I love this game, and would put it in my top 5 PS1 games, so it's super cool to see someone playing it for the first time to see if I'm just nostalgia biased. Turns out your view of it matches mine even without the rosey lens of time passed.
Just found your channel thanks to UA-cam mysterious algorithm. And fuck, i'm so lucky: you're awesome! You seriously deserve WAY more subscribers. (About Parasite Eve: I LOVED the battle system but I'm more into jrpgs, so that could be the reason) :D
Awesome review. I remember dying to the damn missile so many times, on the upside I was able to master the damn controls thanks it. You have no idea how happy I was to finally survive that. Anyway lots of great points, I shame ya didnt get into customization but I get it, its one of those giant time sinks.
i love i got to play these games as a kid when they were new and first came out, nothing was better than getting this game for xmas and staying up late xmas night playing this game and watching those beautiful cutscenes!!! pure magic!
Awesome Video, my favourite parts are the pre rendered background art work, atmosphere and soundtrack. I'd love to have an indie gaming company who explored new avenues of tank controls and pre rendered backgrounds. They make such amazing explorative and puzzle elemental games
Awesome video! I've always been curious about trying this game and it looks really fun. The soundtrack definitley sounds fantastic. I wasnt really expecting the RPG style battle system though. Definitely gonna give this a go and as always fantastic review! :)
Thank you, this is one of my All-time favorites in the horror-game genre from the Playstation 1 era. It's got a firm spot on my wish-list for a remake/Remaster along with Dino Crisis. Strong female leads are the best
Found you through your collab with Tarks. Any friend of Tarks is a friend of mine. Great content to boot! Great job looking forward to going through your content. Cheers, and happy Friday!
Opera House is my new favorite music genre. Awesome review, LP! I'm still getting through PE2, but I've never played 1 or 3. After this review, it might be time for me to finally snag a Vita and finish this trilogy finally after all these years. Keep up the dopeness!
I love this game. I bought it back when I first got my PlayStation, and really enjoyed it. Totally agree about the soundtrack and cutscenes; both are amazing. I also really dig the setting and story. I'm not sure why The 3rd Birthday gets such a bad reputation. It transitioned the series into a straight action adventure game, with less emphasis on the RPG elements, but is a fine game in its own right.
Part of the same line of experimentation that produced Vagrant Story, back when artistic vision was still a thing at Square... Edit: except Yoko Taro that is, if anyone can elevate SE to high art once again it's him
I remember renting this from a video store when it first released. I was in 6th grade and it realllllly creeped me out. Then I had to go purchase it because I fell in love.
First off, they would have to renegotiate with Mr. Sena. After Parasite Eve 2, he yanked his authorization for Squeenix to use his IP -- in other words, the name "Parasite Eve" or anything to do with exalted mitochondria. Which is why 3rd Barfday carefully avoids those mentions and drastically changed her ability set.
Great video! The shifty pixel deal for FF9 was not an issue on the original PS1, on a 480p television, because that is what it was designed to be played on. Certain games look better or worse on the PS3 versions, because Sony uses very general settings to try and upscale it for modern televisions. In the end, you get games like FF7-9 that look like they have a layer of fog, or mud over them, or if you turn the filters on, you see things your not supposed to, like shifting pixels. If you were to emulate them on your PC, without upscaling them at all, you'd be surprised how much better it does look. Maybe, buy the game on the PS3, so your not stealing, but download the rom on an emulator with a PS4 controller, and play them on PC? It might be easier to record video for it also. I thought this was a great review btw, just wanted to point that out, love the channel!
Thank you for watching! And oh snap! I did not even consider that. Touche! I bought it for ps3 already but I do wonder what it would look like without the shift. Not the PS4 version which clearly looks superior. Once again, appreciate the support!
Sometimes it's really difficult to find paths and things in games with pre-rendered backgrounds. Slow moving like you mentioned, makes things so much worse.
It really does. I appreciated the level of detail for sure but...it was a bit annoying figuring out what I could and couldn't interact with. Just let me walking the area of the room smashing X.
Awesome review! Glad you enjoyed the game. Completely agree with the music and cinematics. They really drive the player forward! Do you remember what your final play clock was at? I love that it's a short game that really respects your time (aside from the slow walking. =p)
Parasite Eve is truly one of the most underrated and amazing games on the PS1. It's creepy and haunting soundtrack, engaging narrative, and the incredible overview New York make this game a treasure gem. It's too bad the sequels couldn't measure up to it's brilliance. Btw my favorite track of the game is Femme Fatale, final fight with Eve.😁😆😔
The music is amazing. Influence of the Deep and Femme Fatales are my favorites. Parasite Eve 1 is better than 2 probably, but when I'm playing PE2, I love it way more than PE1. Likewise, when I'm playing PE1, I prefer that one, so idk. I have no desire to play 3rd Birthday.
This was the first video I watched from you and it got me hooked on your channel. It might have been recommended to me because I was probably searching things around Silent Hill 2. I'd really like to see you review a Silent Hill game. The first SH has the best atmosphere, but some stupidly hard puzzles. At least a review of the upcoming SH2 Remake? How about you show a let's play of SH: The Short Message? I'd LOVE to see that!
Hello! I just saw your review of this game and so I found your channel! Hi! :D At 3:54, I TOTALLY UNDERSTAND YOU!!!! At 6:43, Hee Hee Hee. (I only laugh because I've had that same problem with that SAME DAMN AREA!!!) If you decide to play the sequel, they fixed this problem, allowing you to run much faster. You actually have to be careful not to run into corners due to your increased speed! It also, takes place in real locations and has lots more of everything great in the first game, and they added more of a typical RPG leveling system (But only in regards to Aya's powers) allowing you to develop powers in the order and to the play style you enjoy! I will definately watch more of your content!!! Thanks for filming this!!
Hiya! I'm glad I'm not the only one who struggled. But yes I do plan on playing P.E 2 in 2019!! Thank you for watching and sorry for the late response!
Recently finished my playthrough of PE has well! First time I completed the Chrysler Building after almost twenty years of playing this game! Worth it? Sort of? Mixed feelings. I completely agree about the running speed. It is a nightmare in CB running through screen after screen. Nice review!
Ayyyeee!!! Congrats on your victory! I dunno how you have the patience. It was a nightmare running in general. Even fighting with that walking speed was awful. Thanks for watching!
A friend of mine had this game back in the day it was nice to see it again. You know what, another old Playstation game by SquareSoft you may like is Vagrant Story.
Been seeing a lot of people finally singing the praises of this game recently and I couldn't be happier! Everyone has that relatively obscure/underrated game they want to come back and this is definitely mine. I'm praying for Square to remake/reboot Parasite Eve! ... Maybe get Final Fantasy VII out first though.
I'm happy I finally got around to this gym! It is certainly an experience and for me a palate cleanser. This series is hands-down deserving of a remake. At least the first one. Can't speak on the other two. Thank you for watching! :-)
I'm so glad that you played "Parasite Eve"! I was curious to see your take on a sci-fi modern day rpg, which is why I hope you play "Earthbound" some day. A couple things: 1) I absolutely KNEW that you'd find the walking in this game laborious, lol. It irritated me as well. 2) I actually really enjoyed "Parasite Eve II." You can say that it "evolved" (see what I did there). Though I never played three because it came out soooo long after two and was on a device that I didn't have at the time. 3) A letdown sequel that I gave up on earlier was "Saga Frontier II." Maybe I didn't give it a chance, so the game could have really been epic and I didn't know it, but the first one mesmerized me from the start, whereas the second one didn't.
Oh Earthbound is 100% on the list don't you worry. 1. It's the worst. 2. It's a mixed bag. Some people said they loved it, other hated it. The only way I could say if I loved or hated it is to evntually play it myself! It's currently on sale via PSN for $3! 3. Never played but good to know...
Daniel is one of the best badass single fathers in videogaming -- wasn't stereotypical either. I first beat this when I was 14, and when Daniel became a human asteroid, I held my face in shock thinking he was dead. But of course the dude is so badass that he survives that. It's why I find the Normal Ending to be superior to the True One, because the latter ending lacked that heroic sacrifice.
Loved this game and have since owned it multiple times. It was great to see Square experiment like that. The 2nd game is great, but it is very different gameplay wise. The 3rd was such a massive disappointment. They added way too much to the "rules" of the world and the canon, while actually going out of their way to not reference the other games except once. You will miss nothing by skipping it.
It was so refreshing to play I gotta say. The second game I keep hearing mixed things. The third game...yeah.............yeah.........lol I kinda wanna skip it, but I also wanna know how bad it gets.
Going form Luigi's Mansion to Parasite Eve feels like quite a leap to make. Not the worst step-up, though, seeing how comparably mild Parasite Eve is with gore compared to most horror games, specially nowadays.
If there was ever a game that deserves a complete remake it's Parasite Eve. Aya Brea is a great female character in gaming but sadly the sequel did not carry her character well and by 3rd Birthday flat out betray the fans. I've played all three of these games. 3rd Birthday has ok gameplay but it's story and treatment of Aya Brea is down right terrible. Parasite Eve 2 tries to cash in on using more Resident Evil controls and for me personally fails while it's story is so so. However Parasite Eve original is by far the best out of the three games for me personally. It has great control, great characters, amazingly location details and a soundtrack that is complimentary to the game. The original marries the narrative to the gameplay well and tells a great Scifi story of creepiness, desperation and self discovery. If the original Parasite Eve was remade or even remastered with updated visual and music design my wallet would fly open.
I like so much about this game but its a shame it drops the ball in a bunch of places, the extra dungeon being the only way to explore some combat mechanics with weapon armor skills you can't get otherwise is a huge waste, getting half way up the building just broke me, just too many same hallways until you find both the loot room and the next floor, wish it wasn't made to be such busy work. On the other hand tuning up your gear to be OP is pretty cool, but has some weird quirks, like adding shot count splitting your damage in a weird way, making it better to just leave it on two ore three shots I think, and the base gun type is a hidden stat for firespeed if you will, making anything other than a submachine gun subpar. (rifles are soooo slow by comparison)
Great review. Parasite Eve is a great game that I beat last year. So, I really appreciated you talking about it. Also, I personally thought DOTNW was a decent game.
You know I'm actually not surprised that you chose the review this before God of War I actually still remember you asking on Twitter which game you should review but that's because you have a distinct flavor you're not like other gaming channels and I believe a lot of people that are subscribed to you appreciate that. it's just every once in awhile you get a gamer like me where I like the big Triple A titles and some esoteric things too
I don't think anyone was. 1. Majority wanted P.E. And two, this review has been done for a month now. So I wanted to get it out of the way. Sadly I can't appease everyone, but God of War will be the next review. :) I don't have an extreme method to my madness I just play what I want and review what I want. I'm gonna get hardcore back into modern games next year though I can tell ya that.
* A quick correction...the game is a sequel to the book. Not the other way around " the book being a prequel to the game".
Pelvic Gaming WOO! Rivermets here! I can't wait to watch when I get on to wifi!
madamminalost Hope you enjoy!! :))
Pelvic Gaming It's parasite Eve! loved the book and I will live the game vicariously through you+
(exclamation point, sorry. typo)
If youy like this game check the sequel or Vagrant Story. Bought are epic.
One thing I love about your reviews is that you always make sure to mention the music, a lot of other reviewers don't even think about it. Music can make or break a game's atmosphere.
Thank you. And I couldn't agree more. :-)
Daniel is the man. Love that dude. Struggling father, and a total bad ass. Lots of character development along the way too. In many ways you could say parasite eve is a story of... CELLF DISCOVERY!
I'll see myself out. Great video!
I swear any time I hear "The Mitochondria is the Powerhouse of the Cell", Influence of the Deep starts playing in my head.
That's amazing. I'm happy to hear it had such a strong impact on you. And you still play it!

Daniel is basically Roger Murtaugh (played by Danny Glover) from Lethal Weapon and that is a compliment.
i was 14, got this on release. Loved this game. Thanks for the nostalgia with fresh perspective. subscribed
Thank you so much!!

Agreed.
Agreed.
Why not both? FFVII with modern graphics would blow most other JRPG’s out of the water.
because: $$$$$

(I only laugh because I've had that same problem with that SAME DAMN AREA!!!)
If you decide to play the sequel, they fixed this problem, allowing you to run much faster.
I really like your attitude towards horror games. Agree about Dawn of a new world.
LOL, that I'm scared out of my mind? Haha And yeah that game is fucking trash.
Speaking of, you played Koudelka yet?
........Did I ask that before?
Sup girl, love your afro. Parasite Eve is one of my all time favorite RPG's! I play it every Christmas Eve, nostalgia is strong with this one.
"This opera was lit" 🤣🤣🤣🤙🏾
I couldn't even imagine a video like this 20 years ago. Times changed.
IncognitaEX Why do you say that?
Awesome review. This is one of my favourite RPGs.
Cannot be Tamed thank you so much. This game is a gem for sure.
Red Spirit Mask lol way ahead of ya. already own it. ;)
😁 Nice!
I played this when I was like 6 I didn't beat it until playing again last year lol. the 2nd one is just as good if not better!
Also Yoko is a music goddess!!
She really is. She really nailed this soundtrack.
Great review. That's an amazing fro you got there.
Thank you!
Great video, keep up the amazing content!
You should read the parasite eve book. It's a horror story with references in the back for how the author came up with the ideas. It's neat
I'm so glad that you played "Parasite Eve"! I was curious to see your take on a sci-fi modern day rpg, which is why I hope you play "Earthbound" some day. A couple things:
1) I absolutely KNEW that you'd find the walking in this game laborious, lol.
Pelvic Gaming you won't get those hours back. That's all I'll say.
Well I will say this, if you don't like it after an hour, just stop. It doesn't get any better.
Rau Usu The 2nd is an embarrassment
Pubic Gaming! Love this review!
I love this game so much!!!!I have the need to play it at least once for year.
I can't wait to play the second one!!
@@PelvicGaming Great! it have awesome cut scenes and bosses
This was one of my favorite games. I would have liked an HD version or a movie, anime or something! Lol.
THIS GAME IS SO DESERVING OF AN HD REMAKE.
The warehouse and fighting that crab 🦀 was tough
Going form Luigi's Mansion to Parasite Eve feels like quite a leap to make. Not the worst step-up, though, seeing how comparably mild Parasite Eve is with gore compared to most horror games, specially nowadays.
I love this game, it has a beautiful soundtrack. I loved your review !! Kisses, Brazilian here.
Thank you so much!
😯 *The 3rd birthday* , is named so because Square Enix lost rights to the *Parasite Eve* name.
Also, I liked the game.
(rifles are soooo slow by comparison)
would love to see it on ps4 or future consoles
People would lose their god damn mind if that happened! >:)
1:04 song??
Great video Pelvic :)
Left a like :)
I appreciate you. :)
Lady Pelvic, did you notice the view of the Chrysler Building from the hospital? The top of the building was glowing, hinting at the true ending.
K K Oh I did not!
ahhh parasite eve! one of my favs! this series desperately needs a reboot
Agreed!
Great review. Parasite Eve is a great game that I beat last year. So, I really appreciated you talking about it. Also, I personally thought DOTNW was a decent game.
I've never played this game, but based on your video it bears an eerie resemblance to Resident Evil 2.
I hear the second game is a lot like Resident Evil 2.
Cool, you gonna review PE 2 at some point?
Is no one going to talk about the awesome pic of Aya that Pelvic used in the thumbnail?
I like your channel and your content because of the way that it is so I am a fan because of you just being Who You Are
