I just found a 1980 Honda xl500 barn find I’m going to go get it. It’s missing a few parts but hopefully I can find the parts and restore this to its original form. I also have a 1983 Honda xl600r I really enjoying riding it and learning more about these bikes thank you for your videos 👍

Thanks for tuning in! I really enjoyed that 500 when I had it. Rode great in the woods and got up to speed great on the road too. I really gotta get my hands on a XR600 or XL600 at some point. Haven’t had the chance to ride one yet.

I wish my 80 xl500s would've started that easy the first time! I bought it not running, it took some work to get it running. It's now a 1 or 2 kick starter & it's tough to keep the front wheel on the ground! 500s rock!
    Good video!

I lucked out cause this bike sat for such a long time exposed to mice and who knows what kind of other critters in a barn that could have easily chewed up ignition related wires lol. Can’t wait till I can get this bike out on the trail for its first test ride!

I got mine off eBay. It was just the element itself…luckily my bike had the metal part.

Hi I know bikes always sound different when you are video in them to when you're standing next to them it sounded on the video like the cam chain could do with adjusting or the valves.

Yeah I was going to try to adjust the cam chain in the next video cause I can never tell if it’s the acoustics or what but just to be on the safe side I figure I better. I appreciate the input!

Sounding good ,wee bit tappety but seems to come and go so might be just your Mic picking it up more. Cam tensioner worth a look or tappets but getting there. 👍

I’ll be adjusting the tensioner for the next vid so hopefully it quiets up. A lot of it is video acoustics though cause in person it sounds like my other XRs and XLs. Thanks for the input!

Would it not have been easier to fill the holes with lead? Be a much more permanent repair.

Probably…but I didn’t have access to lead at the time and I was able to seal it up with the tank repair kit.
