One of the most difficult parts of making a feature documentary, is that we have too much great material from Mike’s 40-year career, our dozens of interviews, and the worldwide reaches of the Hellboy fandom to fit into an under 2-hour film.
To that end, we wanted to share the San Diego Comic-Con 2024, the panel for "Hellboy: The Crooked Man", which brought fans back to the Hellboy's horror roots. Director Brian Taylor, creator Mike Mignola, and cast members Jack Kesy, Adeline Rudolph, and Jefferson White discussed the film.

Honestly, I’m getting more excited for this film. I just wish they adapt the Wolves of Saint August first. Hellboy and a return to the werewolf genre, I mean c’mon.
If this movie does well , they could easily follow it up with this ! Love that story !

I don’t understand why they keep making MOVIES. Give us a great procedural series that mimics True Detective mixed with the X-Files. The BPRD universe is literally BUILT for serialized storytelling. Monster of the week!

Bryan Taylor is very talented and with his distinctive style I think he’s definitely up to the task. But then again Neil Marshall was too with the first reboot. If the studio isn’t willing to support the filmmaker this will be like 2019 all over again.
The cast looks very promising: they were smart enough to pick someone not that famous to wear the hand of doom, but he looks at ease with the character’s personality. Jefferson White is amazing.
Also, I love that they’re not scared of going full horror. But the box office won’t be generous with that, so let’s hope word of mouth will be positive.
I truly want to like this, and I truly want to see Hellboy take off as a proper saga. Will this be the right time? Because the comic book deserves a consistent franchise, I can only dream of a series of films of Hellboy and a couple of spin-offs tv shows like BPRD or Abe Sapien….

I'm sooo hopping for mostly practical effects. There are many scenes in the comic that could translate to bad CG if the budget is too low. The inflatable Cora scene looks awesome, so I'm hopeful 🤩
Speaking of CG, I *really* hope they are colouring Hellboy's eyes before public release. He must must must have yellow eyes. I have spoken.
I think theres rhe risk to take away some expression, but it worked with Deadpool. It would be super cool

Why can’t they make a high budget animated movie? Or tv series?
Still not red enough, still no yellow eyes, fix it on post prodution before relase please, you cannot say that you want to stay true to source material then miss those details.
If Mike Mignola thinks it’s the right way to adapt it then I think it’s probably ‘true to source material’ enough
